    Oliver, tack så mycke for filmen. I did the Vasaloppet this year for the second and I made it to the finish in 11:02 hours. The first time in 2022 I was to slow and must leave the track in Oxberg. Your film gives a very, very good impression of the day. I shared your film with family and friends to give them an idea what Vasaloppet is and means to the competitors.
    Thanks again.

      Thanks for watching! And congrats on finishing Vasaloppet, it was especially tough this year as well, it's quite an achievement.
      Also glad to hear that I was able to showcase Vasaloppet in a nice way!

    Thank you for documenting your journey! I wish I was able to have more exposure to things like this here in the US. I only came across this event at all as a 27 year old living in Chicago and given how large of an event this is I wish I had know about it sooner! Great video!

    •  10 месяцев назад +2

      Glad you enjoyed the video! 27 is still very young (that's my age as well), there's plenty of time to ski if you want haha
      Fun fact:
      There's actually multiple Vasalopp worldwide, all sponsored by the Swedish one. Vasaloppet China, Vasaloppet Japan and Vasaloppet USA. I hope to try them all. Next up probably Vasaloppet China, might even get my wife to join me on that one. Vasaloppet USA is in Minnesota I think 🤔

      @ It is still young you're absolutely right haha. I definitely guess I mean to say I wish places like YT or social media platforms would have brought it to my attention sooner as I consume plenty of outdoor and trail running related content but somehow never saw this. Maybe the algorithm just needed some tuning.

    Enjoyable video. Great to see what Vasaloppet is like to ski. Thanks for sharing.

    Well done filming! I barely managed to get myself and skiis in unbroken(lost headband and rain jacket, thrown sunglasses to a cheering friend on the way). Ran Marcialonga around 6h, thought I should come in around 8h...oh man, the constant queuing throughout the whole course was unbelievable! It was an experience!

    •  10 месяцев назад

      Thank you! It was a bit more difficult to film the race than I anticipated, especially because of the weather.
      Nice work reaching the finish line! Even though you may have lost some things along the way haha. Marcialonga would be fun to try sometime, I'm guessing it's also quite crowded but maybe a bit less compared to Vasaloppet.

    •  10 месяцев назад +1

    Great job, Oliver !! I did Vasaloppet 9 times (+1 Nattvasan) since 2010, and it's always worth it, even in tough conditions like this year.
    My ordeal began way before Fiskarheden, when I was compelled to run more than 9km in racing boots with skis and poles in my hands to get to the starting line in time (actually 59" before the gun..).
    I went through the parking lot running in the mud, got my feet completely soaked in a giant puddle, broke a pole 2,5km before Smågan, but got the friggin' medal I was racing for ...
    Definitely my worst one, but anyway the one I'll never forget.

    •  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks!
      9 Vasalopp + one during the night is quite impressive!
      I heard about the long queues, not that fun to run such a distance to the start, but at least you got warmed up before the start I guess...and then with a broken pole as well. But you made it and as you said it's now a very memorable one haha 😬

      Getting ready for a revenge in 2025. Running to the start (few Kms less indeed..) it’s an experience I already tested in 2010, in my very first race in Sweden; at minus 17 degrees that time it was a proper warmup …

    •  8 месяцев назад

      I don't know what's better, running in +1 and light rain + mud or -17 and snow. Hopefully next year there'll be no need for running, only skiing 😃

    Thanks, Great video, but terrible conditions for skiing. Then again, at least you have snow this year. Ski on.

    •  10 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching! Yea we've gotten a lot of snow earlier this winter, so although the snow was terribly slushy there was a lot of it. And ski on I will, just back from some weekend skiing 😅

    I was looking for you. Was pretty close to you in Startled tio. Thanks for the video - I can now explain to everyone what that first hill was like. It was what I expected (this was my first Vasaloppet) but still crazy. My average speed to the high point was 2 km/hr, and then from there to Smågan it was 12.5 km/hr. Crazy. I didn't mind the conditions at all. I only really saw rain right before the start. I had a blast!

    •  10 месяцев назад

      Too bad you didn't find me, would have been fun to have a chat. Maybe next time.
      Haha yea the first hill, I knew it'd be crowded but I didn't think it would be that crowded. The difference between row 10 and row 5 was huge.
      Yea luckily the weather report changed a bit last minute. Even though it was wet in the air the whole way at least it wasn't pouring. Although my feet became soaking wet, must have been a hole in my plastic bags or maybe some kinda condensation haha.
      Next year I'm hoping to get Hannah to tag along during Vasaloppet 30...maybe I'll do Vasaloppet 90 again as well, haven't decided yet 🤔

      My skis were sitting somewhere in the lower left of the view @ 4:08 (I must have been over at the portapotties when you shot that ;-).
      I might plan for doing it in 2026 again and get my wife to come this time to do the Tjejvasan or maybe just the 10K. I'd try to do the 45K to get a seeding. Like you said, makes a huge difference!
      And for a comment on your last video: your wedding pictures looked just like my son's from last year! Beautiful. @

    •  10 месяцев назад

      We were really close to each other in the start then!
      How long did the race take for you btw? It's really difficult to get a good time from row 10, especially since one has to go slalom to pass skiers.
      Hopefully the weather will be better in 2026 then haha. If all goes according to plan I hope to participate in Vasaloppet China in 2026, maybe together with the wife, and of course I would film it as well.
      And thank you! We were both very happy with the photos. 😄

    • @jonasundquist
      @jonasundquist 10 месяцев назад

      Your strategy of going along the edge of the hill worked. I looked up your times and you beat me to the high point and to Smågan but I passed you before Mångsbodarna. Of course, I wasn't also recording a video log along the way, so that helped. I finished in just over 10 hours. The finish line announcer guy interviewed me just after I finished (I gave a shoutout to Borås!), so the family back home was thrilled about that. (I looked up your splits using your youtube username; you can do the same with my username) @

    Hahahha vilken king du är! Sett några av dina videos innan Vasaloppet. Sen såg jag det där live på SVT play 17:45 men fattade inte att det var du då. Kul att se det här nu xD Grym video! Verkar ju som du hade kunnat köra MINST en timme snabbare om du sluppit filma och grejer. Bra mental styrka på det också att släppa prestationen lite.

    •  10 месяцев назад

      Haha tackar tackar!
      Jag hade Klara och Måns bakom mig hela vägen från Hökberg, tänkte att jag fick passa på och hälsa när vi var framme i Eldris. Och som du säger, det var svårt att släppa på tävlingsinstinkten haha. Nästa år får det kanske bli att åka för en bra tid, mitt rekord är 7:40 något (åkte det 2019 om jag inte minns fel) 😅

      @ härligt, det tycker jag. Då kan vi åka ikapp! Jag åkte öppet spår, första gången, i år. Liiite bättre förhållanden då än ni fick men ändå tungt. 8:36 tog det. Har anmält mig till riktiga dagen 2025 och sattsar på att vara så förberedd så jag klara under 8, oavsett förhållanden.

    Bra filmat och ”dokumentär” om årets omständigheter. Åkte med samma tåg, startade i grupp 10, kom in strax innan 21:00🙂

      Tack! Där ser man då gick vi säkert om vandra på tåget ett par gånger. Tåget upp är smidigt men man får inte mycket sömn 😬
      Härligt att du kom i mål, grattis till ett väl genomfört Vasalopp!

    Very informative video Oliver😀👍, tack så mycket!! I've been thinking of participating in Vasaloppet in the future. The video gave me more realistic view on what to expect, Thanks again!! On the side note : what was your time? Also does every check point has it's cut off time?

    •  10 месяцев назад +1

      Tack tack! Glad the video could give you an idea of what to expect. Hopefully the weather is better for when you choose to participate in the future.
      This time I came in at 12 hours. in 2019 I did it in 7:40. Quite a big difference 😅

    • @19boro76
      @19boro76 10 месяцев назад

      @ Wow, amazing 7:40! I remember in the video you have mentioned that on one of the checkpoints you just managed to arrive 10 minutes before the cut off, so I am assuming that every checkpoint has some sort of cut off time, is that right? Thanks again for the video🙂👍

    •  10 месяцев назад +1

      @19boro76 ah right! Yes there are cut off times, one has to reach the checkpoint before these otherwise you’re not allowed to continue. This year each time was extended with about 30 minutes, partly because of bad weather, partly because a lot of people were late to the start because of traffic.
      Here’s a page (although in Swedish) with each cut off time: www.vasaloppet.se/lopp/skidlopp/vasaloppet/om/under/

    People just walk and eat at food stations like in a restaurant, what nonsense, not a marathon

    •  10 месяцев назад +2

      It's a bit less like that in between the stations 😉
      Also people in the back of the pack rarely aim to be the fastest. The time spent at the stations is quite a bit less for participants in the front rows.

    • @BertGraef
      @BertGraef 10 месяцев назад

      Vasaloppet and most loppets are tougher than a marathon any day. Worse in cold wet windy rainy and slushy weather. Most people are out for the fitness and camaraderie , not an Olympic medal.

    • @BertGraef
      @BertGraef 10 месяцев назад

      You have any idea of the caloric expenditure on one of these things? Youd drop dead if you didnt stop and eat.
