    Kenislovas, if you guess that this swamp measures 500m x 500m and you have dropped it by 3cm it will have drained 7.5k cu.m (or about 150 6m x 3m swimming pools)That is a lot and the swamp is much bigger so this figure is going to be higher. You have done a great job! 👏👏👏👏

    The opening video footage matched with the music you selected is worthy of being part of a Natural History film. It shows the issues facing the forest and the vastness of the held water. Super to locate the Beaver Lodge and the water paths the beavers use. 🏆 Excellent to watch the culvert being cleared on both sides and both sides are great to watch. I don't think you could do anything more than you have, without a lot of investment by others. Extremely well done. 👍🇬🇧

    Glad to see you're still doing this one. Looks like that little tree grew big enough for the beavers to cut it down. Yes I think the government or land owners should at least cut a path for the water. I bet you could make a good rack so the beavers can't put stuff in the culvert. I've seen them triangular shaped with the wide end open to the culvert. It'd be nice if the government supplied that. Thank you for the videos. Great job as always. I hope you have a boy.😉😄👍👍❤

  • @rustyiron
    @rustyiron 2 года назад +2

    I’m not sure what I enjoy the most the aerial footage or the dam removal. It is shocking to see how much land can be flooded by beavers. Beaver seldom recycle material, it is easier to float new material in.
    04:40 to 04:50 that was a huge beaver lodge in the centre of the screen.
    I can see you returning to that dam almost daily to keep the culvert open.
    It is good to see both ends of the culvert, at one end. we can watch you work and the other the results of your labours.
    About the only way to solve the problem of flooding is to remove the beaver. A grate will make it easier to remove a dam or blockage and keep the culvert open. Another benefit of a grate is that stops the beaver from filling the culvert with sticks.

    Beavers float the sticks to the location... They don't pick them up and carry them.
    They eat the bark, get them water logged to some extent, store them, then float them to the location. Being in the water makes them somewhat weightless and easy to move. Being well soaked makes them more flexible and more useful for building. The old stuff on the bank is laregely ignored and will very rarely ever be reused.

    You have a job for life here! It would help to clear the water if the trees blocking the stream bed were properly managed. The water could then flow. You suggest the fitting of a grate and these seem effective in USA in the videos of Post 10 where a three sided grill stops the beavers massing material To stop the flow. For hundreds of years in England there was a system of woodland management called standard and coppice. Certain trees like oak and elm were allowed to grow into big trees but others were harvested every 7 years just down to 10-20 cm. These regrow and you can use the wood for fences, poles, and tool handles. Some like hazel which is a bush with nuts we can eat, can be woven to form the walls in a timber house and then covered with mud or plaster. It stopped the uncontrolled growth of trees, or trees falling into the stream bed and caused problems. It could also be made into charcoal, another woodland product. After 1918, fewer men worked on the land and woodland was often just left, but in more recent times owners, farmers and volunteer groups have restarted coppicing. It also means light reaches the woodland floor and so many wonderful plants come into flower.

    • @koldphuzhun
      @koldphuzhun 2 года назад

      @@Kenislovas That's more of what I meant, though it probably didn't come across right. Late night in the US and all... :) Chipping up all the wood and cleaning an area up would be almost cathartic. It would satisfy the OCD making a pile of wood chip mulch and knowing that the logs or wood couldn't fall back in to cause blockages again would feel like a victory. That's what I meant by the beavers not using them again. The wind or water couldn't put them back in and cause a blockage the beavers do something about. Not sure how it is in Lithuania, but I've seen animals and stuff here play with the piles and mess them up. It can be frustrating.
      In any case, keep up the good work! Looks like there's a neverending supply of it... :) And congrats on the future dam buster! Exciting!
