- Lashun Rodgers died during a Memorial Day weekend celebration in Orlando, Florida in 2022. Rodgers had gotten into an argument with Lakrisha Isaac. According to the arrest affidavit, witnesses saw Isaac’s 10-year-old daughter pull her mother’s gun out of a backpack and shoot Rodgers. Both the mother and daughter were arrested. Isaac entered a no contest plea to culpable negligence charges and will spend the next 5 years in prison. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber breaks down body camera videos from the night and what family members had to say during Isaac’s sentencing.

I'm hoping the Ethan Crumbley stuff will be enough of a precedent to start changing things. The person who pulled the trigger is at fault but when you're a minor, your parents should at least be investigated. The District Attorney offered her a plea deal and she took it. If Lakrisha Isaac had insisted on a jury trial and had been found guilty? She'd have gotten 15 years. So she took the deal. The D.A. still gets a conviction and they avoid the time and expense of a jury trial. It's pretty standard. If everyone insisted on a jury trial for something so cut and dried, people would be waiting 10 years for their day in court. This speeds things up.

At 14 years old, my parents taught me how to load and shoot a gun, the fact that you would teach a 10-year-old how to load a handgun chamber around and shoot is insane, at least wait until puberty, and that is only if the child has the mental capacity to be able to understand you can’t just shoot people in an argument!

Especially with what she did. As a kid, I’d expect her to push between them and yell for them to stop. A 10 year old holding a piece and letting it off with one hand? Where did she get that move from? I was 10 once and NEVER could conceive of what she did. It’s really sad. Regardless of punishment doled out, the kid took someone’s life and that will leave a lifelong imprint. I hope she gets help and grows up to be a happy, stable, productive person. And condolences to the life she took.

It’s not about the fight. Mom committed a felony simply by having a gun that wasn’t properly stored and was able to be accessed by a minor. She also told her daughter to shoot the woman also a felony on top of being child abuse this was not a case of danger simply danger came their way and they needed to defend themselves. Mom participated in creating the danger. Mom did not store her firearms properly. Mom and instructed her child to shoot a person. Felony. Felony. Felony.

I'm hoping the daughter doesn't spend 8 years in a juvenile facility. She'd have 8 years to learn all types of nasty things from the other little monsters there.
I saw the bodycam footage of this a while ago, and I've never seen so many people (rightfully) FURIOUS in a bodycam video before. Absolutely disgusting behavior from the woman and honestly yeah also the kid. 10 is old enough to know not to shoot people.
It's funny that you think a 10-year-old should have the emotional intelligence and maturity to know not to shoot in that situation when she was very likely told to do so by her own mother, taught how to use a gun, given access to the gun, and made to think it was okay and right to shoot someone in that situation. No, 10-year-old is not old enough to be held accountable for their actions in that situation. She is 10. Not 20. This is completely and 100% the fault of the mother and mother only. I knew how to load, unload, check, and defend myself at 10. I was responsible for me and my brother when we were out of school and we lived in a very remote area. But I also knew it was life or death, very serious, and for self defense ONLY!
