    I have RD Easy Diver. The thing is at first I didn't like the look. But one day I was at a store that carried one. Out of curiosity I put it on my wrist. And "oh my!" moment came! I was in love the way it felt on the wrist, like no other watch. I didn't buy the watch then, I researched. The more I thought about it, the more I had to have it. Went back to the store and bought it! I think RD watched (before 2008) are the most unique watches in the world combining the quality and audacity with comfort. There are watches (Omega, Rolex etc), there are fine watches (Patek, Vacheron) and there are Roger Dubuis (before Richemont group) and FP Journe.

      -Dreamland Bro, Most don't realize what excellent movement they have by one of the major talents of the 20th and 21st centuries. You made an excellent choice.Take care Bill

      @@watchartsci oh absolutely! Having this piece of history on my wrist attached to the master - nothing better! I have quite a collection, but Dubuis beats them all - the value like no other. And its a bargain what you can get on those pre-2008 watches.

    Fantastic review, Bill. Really appreciate the inside info on this company, thanks to your research. The Sympathie (version where crystal matches the case design) and La Manegasque are my favorites as well.

      I still do not have a RD yet... but I have one I've been considering. It was an early sports and used an interesting movement but not an RD. Great to hear from you SouthNC! Take care, Bill

    There is a Roger D watch on the market, the La M s/steel with an in house movement. Straight forward time and seconds. Grey dial. In the later years you referenced movement issues. Do know of any specific I should ask about? In this case the warmth is priced below what else end to be the market. But on a highly reputable site. Thanks for any insights.

    So, i was at this watch dealers house i know , collecting my wife new watch a J.L.C. Master Chrono Lady Diver . I was lucky to see the other watche's he had at home that day , the new stock that has not gone on sale. I saw Omega, J.L.C. ,Rolex, and then out came a ROGER DUBUIS JUST FOR FRIENDS ACQUA MARE. It was Awesome, i don't think i have been this taken with any watch, I have always admired the likes of Patek P. and the other top brands, however as much as i liked the movements the watches did nothing for me, or the watches looks awesome , and i'd have one in a heartbeat , but the wallet was saying no. Its used , but looks like new, not a mark on the case, boxes ,no papers. I needed to mull it over, i went home , and for the next week , i could not stop looking into Roger Dubuis. So the end , its going to be here Tomorrow, its my new watch, ill let you know after a while how i got on with my new ,used, ROGER DUBUIS JUST FOR FRIENDS ACQUA MARE. btw i like your youtube vids, thank you for your time, you must take to make them.

    Undoubtly he was one of the most skilled watchmakers in the world. Sorry to say there is not one watch in your video that is optically speaking to me. Have a nice weekend Bill!

    I am about to buy a steel moneguasque chronograph. That movement with micro rotor is a gem... Aside note: where do you get the money for all those fine watches you own??

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  5 лет назад +2

      Hi S-A! I'm assuming you mean a steel Roger Dubuis La Monégasque...no? If so, that's a nice watch. The only watch that I own that I paid list price for was my Habring2 Felix. For the rest I did the following: 1) Research; 2) Search; 3) Negotiate. One of my favorite watches I had to negotiate for almost a year, but I got a great watch at a great price. Most important, though, is patience. Cheers, Bill

    RD had this model SYM43 which at first glance looked like a Excalibur, yet with the Symphatie cushion. Any take on this model?
    Cheers!

      Hey D3...Between my EZ Diver and SYM43, I find it easier to wear and use the SYM43. No date-setting, no screw-down...just give it a few winds and hit the road. Something about it that I really enjoy. Take care, Bill

    Never have seen a Roger Dubuis watch that I liked. I also think that there is no reason to spend the money for tourbillon. I don't see a reason for them in a modern watch, except to push up the sale price. I don't think that additional complication adds any degree of accuracy that justifies its cost. Of course all of these are more costly than I would ever spend for a modern watch.Good show, and nice to learn some about Roger Dubuis history.

      Hi JR, while I like the the bi-retrograde on the Sympathie, RD watches seem to be fairly cluttered. I like La Monégasque Perpetual calendar, and while the moon phase is an unessential complication, it's done in such a way to enhance rather than detract from the dial. However, the date window looks like one of those peep windows in the doors of speakeasies. Despite myself, I found some of the Art Deco designs by Carlos Diaz quite appealing-not the ones the look like Franc Müller watches but the ones that look like they belong on the wrist of a businessman from the 1920s. Cheers, Bill

      I like the Harry Winston watch you acquired ... what a beauty. While I like sport watches because of my locale, if I were still in the States doing business, that HW would be my choice for a watch for dressy social occasions.
      RD really turned me off with their diver watch. I think its a sports watch abortion.
      For an Art Deco style I am still a fan of that Rolex Cellini that we discussed recently. There are two complications that do nothing for me. Moon Phase and Tourbillon have no purpose. I also am not a fan of perpetual calendar watches. Anything beyond a regular day-date to me is just a hassle.

    Roger Dubuis Excalibur found it here amzn.to/2I6bAFA I actually do enjoy the design. It evokes this post modern feel whilst still maintaining an artisanal structure.

      Hey Forza Mobile, a RG on Amazon!? A Roger Dubuis that I favor is the Sympathie ... on my backlist, but still on the list! Cheers, Bill

    His design is way too extravagant. Maybe somebody like Niander Wallace would wear one of these.

      Hey Frantisek!! I haven't seen Blade Runner 2045 yet, but that is way out there in the future....I hope they're still collecting mechanical watches then. It seems that nobody likes Roger Dubuis watches very much. I'd really like to separate the ones that Roger did and the ones designed by Carlos Diaz. I'd probably find a few by each I might like. Take care and I won't tell Niander... Cheers, Bill

    Problem with most of these watches is that one cannot read the time. ... Way too elaborate

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  7 лет назад

      IAT1965, a lot of watches are that way.Some H. Moser et Cie watches have blank dials. Roger Dubuis has some models I like and his movements are tops, but I'm with you that it's nice to be able to read the time on a watch. Kindest regards, Bill

      WatchArtSci I'm an engineer by trade, and marvel and love the tech side I.e. movements and innovations. Personally I prefer a clean simple dial, but this does not mean I don't admire the workmanship of these watches. Thanks for a great channel.

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  7 лет назад

      Hey IAT1965, thanks man. I've been spinning my wheels a bit on getting started on my Watchmaking course, but after I used a case-back removal tool yesterday to remove a battery from a quartz watch, I too think I need to quit procrastinating and get to work. I'm not an engineer, but watchmaking would seem to be a natural for an engineer. I'm doing it so I'll quit blowing so much money on watches!! I can buy a movement or ébauche and put my own watch together! Cheers, Bill

      Hi Bill, you're right about my pronunciation. I have a life-time hearing loss, and with age it has not improved. As a result, my pronunciation is often atrocious, and I apologize. The good news is that some like yourself find it amusing. Take care, Bill.
