- Due to popular demand, 6 inch hubs are back and Factory Team Rider, Tyler James is stoked! 6 inch hubs have a bit more sidewall which makes for a slightly less responsive but more cushy ride which really shines off-road. He took the new GT S-Series with the 6 inch Hub and new 6 inch Performance tire for a rip and takes us all along for the ride with him!

Some might say that you created a problem and sold a solution, but honestly props for doing the right thing and advancing the company to introduce new options for those who ride these boards harder than your average person. Love to see it.

I'd disagree. I actually like the responsively that the 6" hub can't offer but I like choice and appreciate they brought it back for those that prefer it.

Marketing will say slightly less responsive so that the 6.5 keeps some attraction, when I think most would agree there are zero disadvantages of going with a 6” over a 6.5”.
Rather than try and market both, I think the majority would agree and appreciate if the 6.5 just got discontinued all together or rather that the 6” just came as the new standard. There are virtually zero advantages in going with a 6.5 over the 6. Any change in responsiveness would be little to unmeasurable.
I could see there being a slight responsiveness difference between a 6.5 and 5, but even then.
FM be like, “ It’s Friday let’s release something!!!”

Why isn’t FM allowing the option to have it built with 6” from factory. I just ordered a GTS a week ago and would’ve love the option to put a 6. 🤷🏼♂️
Saw the thumbnail come up and thought it was a Float Life video, was surprised to see this is from FM! Not used to seeing them solve the problems in-house. This is awesome!

But, I was just about to comment saying they're making 3rd party vendors less interesting lately.
A good move, and convenient with the BTG movement going on.
I'd love to see more modularity when ordering. 6" hub? Add to configuration. Extended rails for 7" tires? Add to configuration. GT-S motor for the GT? Add to configuration.
That would be ideal. It’s an operations and manufacturing nightmare but we’re working on more options from the factory.

@@Onewheel Maybe for these custom builds you can just ship the parts boxed separately and have the customer build their own custom board. I'm sure people will be happy to assemble at home. It is all plug and play anyways. No need to have 5 employees assemblying custom boards.
@@Onewheel fully understand that, having the streamlined "this is the package" ordering options is certainly ideal from a business and manufacturing process, but with you guys coming out with more significant and impactful options for board customization, it greatly benefits the customer and incentivizes them to make those choices where they might not otherwise.
Anyway, thanks for getting the 6" hub out there, that's clutch, and another step in the right direction.

Will you guys sell the GT-S with the 6 inch hub pre installed in the future or is it something that we absolutely have to buy separately? It’d be nice to have the option for those looking to purchase a GT-S
they should make boards more customizable at build, in general. Footpads, tires, motor size, etc.
I’m sure they’ll definitely upsell you every chance they get…
Should have never changed to 6.5, way too tippy and doesn't absorb anything. Been riding since 2018, started on plus, moved to XR. I loved my XR and immediately hated the way the GT rode. Bought 3 different tires to try to make it a better ride, no good. Bought flat foot pads, no better. I exchanged the GT for the GTs because of the "low boys" foot pad and there is no notable difference. Looks like FM is gonna get another grand from me, but at least I'll love riding again.

If you want a cheaper/better alternative, there’s floatlife offering a 5” hub and 1wheelparts billet hub in 6” or 5” and they are more durable than any fm hub…lol

I can see them releasing the GT-S5 as their next board with a longer range battery. Price, on the other hand. 🤑🙄
The GT-S5 with a 5" hub & longer battery life is my prediction for the next FM board.

I was close to going back to FM after seeing all the module parts and the 6-inch hub was the tipping point but to NOT INCLUDE IT in a new GTS purchase from the website and instead be forced to pay an additional $925 if you want the 6 in seems like a classic FM move

Best upgrade to my GT was a The Float Life 5" MTE HUB with ENDURO 655 SOFT tire. Less Wheel and More Tire makes for a Less Bumpy, More Nimble and Smooth Ride. 😎🤙🏻
Definitely happy to see that Onewheel is listening to it's base with the 6" GTS HUB. They are also now selling the GT Replacement Battery; big steps towards what the people want. Next step is being able to balance board with OW App. I have TFL Steep and Deep rails and have the utmost control and feel.

I just tried to buy a GTS from one wheel with a 6-in hub and was told it is not available and has to be purchased separately for $925 at least that comes with a tire
Will there be a choice of hub when buying a board now? Im not buying a gts to spend yet more money on the hub it should have had in the first place.
Just checked the website, doesn't describe the size of the hub during checkout. So, who knows? I do see the 6" hub on accessories page for a whopping $850!
Not at the moment. Definitely agree that more options out of the factory would be ideal. Looking at some of those logistical challenges.

@@Onewheel Just transition over to 6" as default in your inventory over the next year. I run a local group of over 300 people and I can guarantee that absolutely not a single person is going to fight on arguing that the 6.5" is a better option.
@@cannonballroc Damn that's insane I was just about to buy the GTS after tax It's about $4,000 with the shipping insurance and now I got to drop another $850. On top of that I think this announcement just delayed me from her making a purchase of the GTS now I don't think they realize how big of a financial commitment that is in the first place. It's really hard to justify spending that much money in the current economic situations we r currently facing And now to add another $850 on top of that and the thought of knowing that hub is a better riding experience would give me buyers remorse. Damn. I feel like I just got salt rubbed in my wound 😢
Nice! Glad you guys have "pushed" FM forward with all the new modular repairs, accessible parts and finally - this 6" hub! This is probably the first big upgrade I will spend for the GTS! Thanks for all of your efforts....things have changed a good bit since FM forged the Pro Team. 💯💥❤️💛💙

So would this work for the XR as in only if it’s got the 52N magnets in it?
Why would you create a problematic 6.5 inch hub in the first place when your XR 6.0 is superior. Why not make it stock on GT series. Is it because anti 3rd party and tire limitation? Now people need to shill $850 or $925 to fix the problem. I felt a bit cheated tbh. I wish it just come stock on the day I purchased my GT.
Are there any plans for a 5”? I don’t want to go buy the 6” and then week or two you drop a 5”. Kinda like the soft lowboy foot pads. I got those and then couple weeks later you drop the flared lowboys which I would have much preferred. Just would be nice to have some sort of game plan people could look at and see what is dropping in the near future.
I'm planning on upgrading for my pint x to a GTS in the next month or two. Does the 6-in hub have the option of coming stock on the GTS or do I have to buy the GTS separately and then the 6-in hub separately and have it assembled after the fact? Just wondering cuz I just looked on the website to see if there was an option to get the GTS with the 6-in hub and I wasn't seeing it anywhere. Thanks for your time

Maybe that explains why carving the gt wasn't as fun as the xr when I upgraded. Custom shaping helped, but it was a loooong wait. They sure are making us gt riders feel like we made a mistake and should just get a gt-s. 😅

Our XR Trade In Program ended a few months ago. But this motor is for GT platforms. However since the tire is also being sold separately, it technically should fit onto an XR

New to riding, can someone explain the benefit of a bigger vs smaller hub? Does it also mean a change in tire size?
Smaller hub = more compliant on rough roads and trails due to taller side wall.

The motor? No it has a different connecting plug. The tire technically will fit if you want to buy that by itself

We could definitely use a leveling feature for the GTS or any FM board running stock firmware for aftermarket rails

Dont you loose clearance? I got that confidence and feels were good but did I miss something? Wondering from you 6 inchers what the advantage is in your opinion. Im new to this so thanks in advance and loved the video and love my onewheel.
The tires are the same diameter, the same size, if you will, it's just the rim is different.
With a 6" hub you have an extra half inch of sidewall to not only protect the rim of the hub but the extra rubber allows the tire to flex more, absorbing impacts and provide cushion.
Bigger sidewall buddy. Overall diameter is similar. Can run lower psi due to sidewall height. More tyre choice as well.

@@rocknrory I haven't noticed a change going from the 6.5" stock Hub to the 5" MTE Hub. Or at least the delta is insignificant enough to be an anomaly. Your PSI has more to do with range than any other factor

The context is they screwed up by trying to monopolize their gt wheel with a 6.5”. The community came up with going back to 6” and even 5” hubs.. they are losing money and riders so they brought back the 6” like they’re doing the community a favour.

@@BenjaminTemplar I'm in the same boat so i can relate 🤙🏾 since they made the hub a half inch smaller (the way it used be 6inches before they widened it to corner the tire market) you can fit a tire that holds more air hence more cushion/ comfort/control for the pushin. however this is not currently an option selection for a new GTS buyer (you have to buy Another motor to get the 6" hub size 🤯🤔) nor is there an option for you to purchase the 6" hub separately 😑
