Hogwash, we had a blast in China including Tiananmen on national day with full crowd as well as summer palace, then we went to Xian and saw the Terracotta warriors as well as enjoyed best food. After that it was Chongqing, Shanghai and Guangzhou and all that spending our dollars. We were with my ninety six year old aunt and we exclusively traveled in the bullet train as well as local taxis when we visited the rural side. We never had such a good time like this and we are returning again next year for an even longer stay. We had our registered Alipay and Wechat working flawlessly connected to our account here in NY. Stop spreading BS propaganda, tell me would you rather visit NYC and take the subways and get mauled or visit China.

Not sure where this report got its information. I just came back from my summer vacation trip to China a week ago. I was able to setup wechat w/ my credit card easily, got didi (exactly like uber) to work no problem, got ticket to the forbiden city on the day of, and bought subway tickets without my passport.

I had a similar experience. Just visited Shanghai last December and Beijing in June. I had no issue setting up WeChat and Alipay. I used the subway, ordered car services on Didi and got food delivered to my hotel on Meituan.

CNBC always accentuates the negatives on China. I haven't been to China for 5 years and with a little efforts, I have both WeChat Pay and Alipay on my phone.

Don't believe the reporter. She has her own agenda. I visited China recently. I could use cash or Alipay with a credit card. No problem. I could hail taxi on streets no problem and use apps to get rides.

I was there a month ago. You certainly don't need your passport to buy a subway-ticket. Why are you lying?

Not sure what you are talking about. there is a onestop service in international airport where you can get simcard, alipay account, transportation card which you can topup and liquidate, and they provide every information that tourist needs. Maybe this girl walked in the airport with her head full of misconception so she just ignore every announcements

Thank you for a very good example of why fewer and fewer people use US Mainstream Media. I have been to China a number of times. I have worked on projects there. And also simply visited freely for pleasure . The country you describe sounds nothing like my experiences there. The people are friendly and helpful everywhere in China. I made purchases without trouble. Booked accommodation easily. Rode on time efficiently run subways and high speed trains in safely and with ease. This is at contrast with the US where the people are often friendly, but there are so many dangers-Guns, Muggings, Murders, Mass Shootings, Scams, Hate, Robbery, especially against all Asians because of hateful and untruthful reporting like this purposely done with an “Asian face” . One cannot feel safe in the US. NYC subways are like something out of an American horror film. I am a citizen of the US and when I visit the US from Asia, where I have lived since the early 80’s, I feel unsafe and very restricted in what I can do without putting my life in danger. I never felt that in China. It is amazing to me, that the people of China are so forgiving of people like you who create nonsense reports like this.

It's done on purpose to vilify China, to stop people from seeing the real China, to stop people from realising their Western gov't has been spreading falsehood.

Perhaps the West then need to learn to use Chinese apps. China was the most convenient travel destination for me, a foreigner, once I got the hang of using the Chinese apps. And those apps are superior even to Western ones.

China could make so much more $$ from tourists by making things easier for foreigners. The reporter here exaggerated a bit, but it's true that things are tougher without a local Chinese phone number.

Can Paris, Venice, Rome, London, Barcelona do the same and ban Chinese tourists? So many international tourists have been choosing lesson-known European cities to avoid the gaggle of rude Chinese tourists (e..g, Lisbon, Florence), but even those cities are no longer immune. COVID helped a little, but everyone is concerned what 2024+ will look like.
I read Venice recently outlawed megaphones and groups over 25 people which was a veiled way of saying “No Chinese”. Will other major cities follow suit and put a damper on marauding Chinese tourists?

The European economy has a huge dependence on tourism and Chinese are the world's biggest tourist and spends the most. Not the other way around.

Japan is suffering from American tourists(and others), especially Kyoto. Not all, but many are exceedingly rude to the extent that no tourist safe zones have been created.
