If you need a but more connection to your character, and adventure(s) to really get to feel like you character exists in the world:
I STRONGLY suggest Chromie Time -> Cataclysm -> and doing any Easter Kingdoms/Kalimdor quests from the job board.
It may not be the fastest method, but each zone is its own small story line that usually wraps up nicely. Most other locations leave their stories open ended, due to finishing within content you probably wont touch until after you catch up on Dragonflight. After purging a cursed forest, stopping a conspiracy against the king, winning a small conflict for your faction, and ending a demonic/eldritch plot; you will be fully worthy of the title "Hero", and will make more logical sense why important character rely on you.
Said scenic rout also has some snazzy cosmetic gear in it for you too.

i think my main problem with how leveling is done is its just a mess because theres no logical path
      like westfall-redridge-duskwood etc
ytou can do westfall-borean tundra-hen like uldum
it breaks flow that used to exist and even though I'm not new it feels kinda weird

Honestly they need to add a short of quick questline, maybe somewhere in the 50's, where Chromie takes you on a journey thought the major events in each time period. Frame it as things you will do/have done/could do to build then sense of connection to the world while also getting you up to date with the events so they don't need to shoehorn in refences for new players. Also works as a way to gear the player for The Dragon Isle, maybe add some more advanced mechanics in there too so the player learns how to deal with them for when they get to 70.

For those that want a story experience, use this method to turn on Chromie time and play the story of Mists of Pandaria. It’s a solid self contained story, and while it’s old story, it’s still relevant.
Others have suggested staying in Cataclysm and playing zones that the mission command board suggests. This is also a good option, as most of those zones have self contained small story arcs.

I actually just did this recently to level a new character, you can do about 80% of the entire map before you get forced out of Chromie Time. It's not ideal, but it's significantly better than it was when they forced you into Shadowlands 10 levels earlier.

I already wrote it down in your other vid. To get new players, they should make a complete new zone from level 1 to 60 with new quests and stories, that both is completed at the end and also introduces you to the current expansion. This could happen in the last 5 levels and can be changed with every comming addon.
As it is now its reading a book series of 10 books and stop at 75% of book one and start the sequel set 20 years later.

I appreciated this as someone who really wants to like retail and experience Dragonflight content. I've never been to end game in retail because the majority of my time and enjoyment has been spent in Classic for the last year. But with the downtime in between phases, I'm seeing and hearing people enjoy DF a lot. It just feels so bad to level, and learning the class is a bit daunting when they throw so much at us without much explaining. Using my experience with Classic only goes so far since the games are so different. Regardless, I just wanted to say thank you for putting this out there and helping people like me. 💜

My contribution to this topic is: enjoy leveling up. Take your time. One thing I really hate about peoples' perception of mmorpg's these days is that "the end-game is all that matters". It has turned leveling up into a race to get to the end. The sad thing is that the game is less fun at the end. This is why so many people have quit over the years. Hardcore mode though? It embraces everything from 1-60 and turns the knobs up to high. THAT is fun gameplay.

  • @SnikkasHD

The thing i have noticed is this:
If you select "Burning Crusade" as your Random Dungeon choice, bosses have around only half the health of Classic dungeons.
In most cases, BC dungeons are the faster options the higher your level is (assuming you are DPS, though even tank deals good damage), since the HP Scaling is insane as you progress through levels.
The slowest dungeons in BC are Caverns of Time 1 and 2 which realistically can appear, but they are quite unlikely.
But there have been many bugs with quite a lot of dungeons at least with the recent Addons which havnt been fixed, such as wrongly scaling damaging abilities of bosses and generally weird glitchy stuff with Mob/Boss mechanic that regard Health in any shape or form.
    Anyways!

For pro players after level 35 go to normal time do as many quests as you can it does not matter what zone you do them in but do as many as you can till your quest log is full go to chromie set it to the appropriate timeline then turn them in to the quest giver for full exp and gear at your level. You can get up to 8 levels every time you do this trick also remember to do it with war mode on and if possible, with the dark moon faire exp buff. It will take about 1 1/2 hours every time you do it depending on how fast you can do the quests. Basically you 1 shot all mobs no matter what gear you have and get a ton of good gear when you hit 60 you should be able to have enough gear to get into time walking then do time walking till 70 and buy the time walking gear from the vender to get 5 pieces of gear if you actually need it.

Excellent advice on opening up Chromie time for new players. Kudos to you for the tips on being optimal whilst leveling too, although personally I feel you level so quickly that scaling isnt so much of an issue that it requires the extra effort you recommend. The time lost from sorting out the satchels, going back and forth with Chromie Time and/or doing the Arena quests for weapons is too great and could've been spent getting 3/4+ more levels. However I've been playing the game for a long time and have a biased view.
Will share this video to my friends who are thinking about playing for the first time. Cheers!
Edit: Your replies to other people at the end of the video is completely justified. You are correct that the the way leveling works atm is just dumb. Blizzard should fix it (and adjust gear so that 50-60 is less of a grind).

  • @Anolaana
    @Anolaana Год назад +1

I love this tip about unlocking Chromie time with the class trial!
As for scaling: you're 100% right about the awful range around 50. I've levelled 4 characters through 40-60 since the level squish and chromie time (a priest, mage, monk, pally) and that part is always rough, itemlevel requirements shoots up so fast that I am able to run Legacy raids and somehow get gear that will catch me up. But bad scaling has been like this as far back as legion when levelling in 2015 (1-110, and NOT doing Legion's story 110-120 content). I've only really been able to get back into the game because the level squish let me make alts properly without getting bord! And even for experienced players you're totally right about Heirlooms, by gum, I am not gonna grind out thousands of gold per alt class I want to play. I'll use em 1-30 for cheap, but the full upgrade series costs at least 20k to unlock a 1-60 weapon and that's hours of grind farming the same thing over and over, even with current WQ rewards.

Bliz did have a really good solution to players having outrun their gear in Pandaria -- Adventurer Gear Vendors. NPCs who sold 'greens' with the appropriate level to where you were at. All Bliz has to do is sprinkle these around, or at least in the capitol cities, with gear of the 'use: generate a piece of gear appropriate to your specialization and level' type.

This is a great video - and I wish I had watched it before I had levelled 3 characters through BFA. Totally go dungeon route, it's the best and you get to upgrade your gear 2/5 per dungeon 1 piece of gear, and if you ask, people will usually just give you the piece of gear anyway since most people are way higher and already geared - so you can then keep the gear and use it later when you are the appropriate level.

although, just to add. From my experience, RP servers heavily favour alliance since people wanna RP in a city like stormwind rather than org, so keep that in mind. I mean, theres still tons of people playing horde, since there are far less rp servers but still a thing to know. Normally per region there should be 1 or 2 rp servers. Just go with the biggest, but know that a very few amount of times it will be "full" generaly only during expac launches, but its nowhere near as bad as the proper full pvp servers.

    - WoD is the fastest expansion to level in (as of now)
    - The intro quests to each expansion are always faster than completing the entire campaign in any other expansion
    - There is no reason to buy epic flying, as it will be free in 10.1.5 (next patch), and you will get dragonriding in the dragon isles
    - Rather than flying, spend your money on gear upgrades once you hit 60 as dragonflight greens will become available
    - Don't forget to quest while you queue for dungeons, I found some quest upgrades are higher ilvl than BoAs even though most aren't

This is a really cool idea, and a really cool video. I’ve had my alt army at max level for so long I forgot what it was like to dupe the game into giving you appropriate gear. Chromie is such a great character to use for little tricks like this. It would be sweet to see her give quests that let you do the very thing you did for this video!
Heirlooms are such a godsend for new alts. It’s a shame they aren’t available to players early on.
I really liked the idea of saving satchels, and something like an in-game method of doing the same would be great. A keyring-like bag slot that provides satchel rewards? A quasi preview of vaults (which also give rng loot)?
Alternatively, just granting heirlooms every 5-10 levels would also work. Anything to help new players go worry free about their gear until max level. The heirloom set bonus would help you feel like you’re earning ‘more’ experience for a longer kill. At the very least, it’d feel less less like you’re killing mobs with an arsenal of paper balls 😂

But they really arent much of a game changer anymore. The stats are actually slightly lower than same ilvl blues now, but you get rested xp buff that slows the usage of rested xp, and a niche primary stat boost on level up. Nothing to write home about. the strongest part of them would have to be their scaling, you never need to replace them. BUT youd also have to spend a ton of gold upgrading each piece to scale to higher levels.

Obviously this sort of behavior has been a problem in the world for some time since James mentions it in the Bible, "Show me your faith without your works and I'll show you my faith BY my works." Your experience and taking action became most visible when you got to the comments people left you. Many either were responding to only a portion of your video or they simply used this opportunity to point out how amazing and intelligent they were by attempting to point out how little you had to offer in your video. Finally, your calmly and respectfully addressing these people, who advance by limiting others or outright running them down, was both impressive and encouraging. It made me think, "Perhaps there remain a number of people in the WoW melieu who are worth getting to know - and that was, to me the reason I began playing the game back when it was in beta.

I saw the original vid when it randomly popped up awhile ago and after seeing the sale decided to pick it, lvl an new toon up to see how bad it really is. Even as someone that thought I would be fine with heirloom that started to fall off between 35-44 I found my power taking a nosedive for those last couple of level. Knowing that was going to happen I planned out a route for quests that I knew would reward me gear early in the zones to supplement my waning power but that only did so much.
I'm convinced the idea I had when I first watch the original video is the only was forward, that being giving the player a package in the mail every 10 lvl up to 60 with gear in it. That way the player never really feels too weak for too long, plus it's a good way to get them invested into the world by making the senders NPC that the player might know from Exile's Reach or lore figures that are self-explanatory something like:
lvl 20 and 30 Exile's Reach characters send you the gear. 40 someone from your factions military quarters (think s1:7 for Ali). 50 Khadgar (helps build him up too if the player never runs in to him while questing) and lastly at 60 Wrathion (same reasoning as Khadgar).
Looking at those comments at the end people really don't seem to understand the problem. It's not about gear it about how fast you out level that gear, the solution is either making leveling taken longer, give more gear to compensate for the faster leveling or make lower level gear stronger for longer. Easiest is obviously just give people gear.
The people claiming leveling is too easy are morons. I don't how they mix up classic eras taking longer to lvl/being more tedious while having more downtime to regen as being hard. Sure you couldn't pull large packs of mobs and needed to group to do group quests but you never really had to for the vast majority of group quests in yesteryears.

You can do that good Ole level scaling chromie glitch with every single quest actually. Once you're over lvl 30, it's totally viable to solo unscaled classic, tbc, and wrath zones, dungeons and raids, then turn in quests after selecting the appropriate timeline! Also, every time you finish a quest with a good reward, save it for when you're close to level 60 and those stats will be way better.
There's also something insane that's been happening on my DK (level 41) where I was soloing tbc dungeons last night and the drops were only about 20 ilvl lower than what I could get from actual dungeons I could queue for. This resulted in getting some new trinkets basically for free that were 60ilvl over what I had equipped 20->90

I learned a few things watching your videos:
    1) You are making some awesome content, keep it up!
    2) As a long time player I always have wondered how many New players wow is getting and the amount of retention of them. But from reading through comments on your videos it would seem a lot of new players are coming in, just not staying. Which is something that Blizzard should most definitely be looking at, unless they really have just said "screw it, we really don't make any money on new players anyways" or something. In which case it's a useless cause, I hope not, just like you I would like to see it thrive.
    3) Why the hell are so many new players picking Tank or Healer? Easily the most skill based positions in the game at lower levels, maybe not so at max level where dps checks come into play, but defininetly at lower level. I'm really surprised that no other comment from "vets" brought this up, I guess they just would like them to try and when they fail they have someone to blame?

the best tactic is to queue random dungeons all the time until you completed the best dungeons that have quests inside and then switch the expansion with chromies help and then continue queuing and doing dungeon quests. also its recommended while you wait for dungeon invite to do the introduction quests from that expansion because they offer the best XP and is quickly done.

I just started playing again after a 10 year break. I noticed what you are saying how my character is getting weaker the higher I level. I could go through mobs in just a couple seconds in my level 10sih stages. Now I'm level 35 and it's taking me longer to kill mobs I encounter, and I have more abilities to attack with. I first played WoW when it was first released. I LOVED the game then. Now I started a new account, and it's so confusing with professions. I like the game now, but just not in love with it anymore. I'm sure me changing is a big part of that, but the game makes leveling not as fun as it once was. I love getting a mount at 20 instead of 40, and being able to fly is a great addition. I'm from the walk until level 40 days and those were tough. I'm still playing after a couple weeks, but the higher level I get, the less I play. Thanks for the guide. I wish I had found it before I started playing again.

this was such a thought provoking video, i have opinions!!
so im a returning player, stopped during cata and just now coming back. dragonflight has been an absolute blast. i currently have 3 toons at 70. resto shammy, preservation evoker, and brewmaster monk. and honestly only plan to make more. thats why i knew i had to grind out heirlooms, which helps A LOT with the ilvl gaps sometimes. new players however, arent gonna have that, AND you are right, dung blues are better than heirlooms. the issue is generally, getting consistent upgrades, thats what heirlooms help smooth out honestly, but anyways, not relevant cause not really something new players can use.
back track a lil bit and before i dove head first into the [live/retail] game, i was rocking in f2p, f2p twinking specifically, which is sadly pretty dead now. lvl20 max seems silly till you realize just how strong you are at that lvl, specifically when you can get i87 blues from iron docks and the like. xpoff is a twink site that dives heavily into all that if you are interested but its one of the easiest ways to see how silly the lvl scaling is.
the warning about speed running is VERY real. that was something i had to adapt to quickly. the last time i played we were waiting on mana users to stop and eat lmao. i would be like 'mana' (not realizing how fast mana regens now) and before i can even finish typing sometimes its off to the races and i cant eat cause im in combat lmao. it was such a hilarious learning experience. coming from runescape (my main mmo i guess you could say) there's something about efficientness sucking the absolute fun out of a game that truly resonates with me. im glad i had a good returning/new player experience for the most part tho, but i do worry about people who arent as comfortable with the game (like a truly new player VS a returning one) being able to adapt without being overwhelmed ya kno?
as much as i appreciate this video, its not for me, and before i type this next part, i really truly do want you to know i appreciate this video bc i agree with it. if THIS video is the steps new players have to go thru to feel comfortable, thats a problem that should be addressed. new players shouldnt have to do this much work to feel comfortable and strong at their current lvl (whatever that may be.) anywho, subbed and now to go watch the why WoW cant get new players vid.
for fun some new player struggles i ran into:
1.) old world professions being almost entirely pointless despite my hoarding wanting otherwise.
2.) fishing being of ??? usefulness despite my love for it
3.) the ilvl gaps in gear that happens sometimes when you go dry on drops. this was most obvious with my main (since i had heirloom's for most my alts) but there were times were i just felt weak. the moment i felt WEAKEST was the switch from BfA dungs to DF dungs. i ended up running timewalking dungs to get time tokens to get at lvl gear JUST SO I COULD FEEL COMFORTABLE IN THE NEW DRAGONFLIGHT DUNGEONS. it was.. wild..
4.) the nokud defense dungeon being accessible BEFORE you can even learn about dragon riding is honestly disgusting.
5.) being so completely lost story wise. nothing made sense till i got to dragonflight. i was playing bits and pieces of three (3) xpacs. i was thrown into BfA which was not my vibe so i started Legion for class halls (which i still havent fully done on anyone yet sadly), and was vibing mainly in WoD (which i also never got to finish.) so now i just have 3 characters that mainly lvled thru BfA dungs (which i do love honestly, but i dont think they are new player friendly) while having bits and pieces of xpacs scattered around. I WILL SAY, dragonflight was extremely fun and i was fully immersed in the world they crafted BUT did EVERY other world they crafted have to get shafted this hard? i cant complete any of the xpacs before i hit 60 i imagine, then youre thrust into the new timeline (which was also just WILD to learn about, chromie and talking to npc's to change zone times, etc, etc) ALL of it, just very overwhelming. and im a returning player, im comfortable with some of these systems, but man..
6.) evoker starting off such a high lvl made skill tree and abilities very overwhelming at first.
anywho, thanks again for the wonderful video, sorry for the rambles but my return to the game gave me an interesting perspective on the state of it, for sure. it feels good (for the most part) for people like me, its fast, good for alts, etc. but thats not good for new players, which is not good for the game.

You got it spot on, I gave up when BFA hit, the children were on about WoW so I re-subbed for a month, started out at level 48, tried Shadowlands, a lot of running around and not so much xp or gear, went back to the hated BFA, 7k - 8k to 10k xp per quest, levelled up to 60 real quick, except I only got 2 gear drops, no weapons dropped, no blues, finished with an ilevel of 156, while trying to queue for dungeons I must have had the plague, no invites, and no one wanted to join me, it's possible Blizzard expected more dungeon drops to boost the ilevel it didn't happen. Almost finished some old raids/dungeons, as even with poor gear they can still be run, had loads of old quests in the log unfinished, now mostly cleared, stood next to some people with masses of HP 400+ gear, no way in hells chance of ever catching up.

    Oh and also,
what i quite always do is:
Select Legion timeline, get the dalaran Heathstone, then leave and do the Dreanor Garrison stone.
But the dreanor intro is really bad and long. You can get around this by just teleporting to Dreanor in the magetower (for alliance) and just "fly"/go where the Quest giver after the Intro story stands by the shore.
OR you can enter the Draenor portal Without the Draenor Quest/chromi time. THat way you will be teleported to the quest giver directly. Super easy ~

    I know I'm a bit late, but I just grinded 13 characters from 45 to 60.
At level 50, just queue DPS instead of tank/healer, keep stacking up those satchels, open them all at 60. Personally I just DPS'd on all of them because their gear was *hilariously* out-of-date, having not been played since Legion. Queue times weren't nearly as bad as I expected.
Also, as long as you don't go to Stormwind after you ding 60, you can stay in Chromie Time indefinitely. Great if you need to polish up a few gear slots that your satchels didn't fill. However, this *also* means you can't switch your timeline.
Lastly, I'm not sure if it's a bug or what, but the higher level you get, the ferwer instances you can do. I forget which exact level it was, but instances started disappearing, I think in the mid-50s. By 59 (and probably earlier) the only Classic dungeons I could do were all the lowest level ones.

Tbh I am kind of excited to try and get into WoW with the guide that you made. It seems kind of straight forward. The last time I tried to get into wow I didn't even know how to unlock and enter dungeons at all. I kept thinking that dungeons are going to show up eventually through a quest from an npc I encounter. I was doing quests on the map, really clueless about where to go, just following the roads or some sort of main story quest, I don't know. But I remember getting destroyed by current-level quest mobs and soon after I gave up on playing the game.

Everyone suggests Cataclysm, but imo the best storyline for questing is either Warlords of Draenor or Legion. Legion has an epic story that introduces a lot of major players and really gets you to connect with your character class. Warlords is a nice story that gives you a lot of the background of the world. My personal favorite is Legion. If you're interested about the story, what they give you during the questing will get you asking some questions that open rabbit holes to interesting lore tidbits outside of the game.

As a filthy casual who has played since 2005 (omfg), I appreciate this guide. Knew about Chromie time, knew about the dungeon pool... DIDN'T know a boost gave you "Explored {zone}" achieves. Guess I should use one, finally, been stockpiling them since WoD xD As for your suggestions for Chromie leveling, obvious it has more to do with opinion than anything, but the leveling experience thru Legion is really, really fast. Also, thematically coherent in most circumstances, and good, similarly to the first three. I haven't played Shadowlands, so I dunno, and WoD I liked a lot, but I know I may be minority there. The best quests are probably the vanilla zones (wish there was a pre-Cata version). All the plots involve the character... the "sad" thing about later content is the stories only get resolution in raids, or, imagine, in the novels. derp. I've also heard absolutely fantastic things from trusted sources that Drgonflight is fun, perhaps even refreshing.
