  • This is a review and comparison of some of the AR mags that I choose to use and run. Hopefully this helps anyone trying to decide on what they might also like to use for the best AR-15 mag.
Disclaimer: all magazines were purchased out of pocket and not provided to me in any way.

Chrome silicone. Great molecular structure that can take far more abuse for far longer periods.... It's so called "downfall"? Not corrosion resistant which is easily countered by using a good dry lube like Otis dry lube aerosol. Before ever putting a round in the magazine, take it apart and hit both sides of the spring with a quick, light spray. Let it sit for a good 45 minutes and then lightly pat dry any points that may seem a bit too shiny or wet. Boom, you're done and no longer have to worry about any kind of corrosion unless you're literally running your mags constantly in extremely wet conditions which if that's the case magazines should be taken apart and serviced regularly. You'll also find that when pushing the follower with your finger into the body of the mag that it's buttery smooth!

Ive used Magpul (gen 2 and 3), Surefeed E2, Lancer, D&H, and Brownells and ive had the best luck with gen 3 pmags, take that for what it's worth.

Duramags are the king, I’ve run hundreds of them with zero failures and 90% of them have been SS which eventually just started giving them away to friends but with zero failures. The Chrome silicone springs are actually enhanced to take much more load punishment than the “milspec” versions. The military labeled what they assume a milspec to be based on their findings requiring Stainless springs for less maintenance hence disposable as all magazines are disposable but the SS Duramags in my opinion will last longer. Just remember, salt will cause corrosion and eat through SS too so keep your magazines well maintained and they’ll last you a lifetime plus.

Okay Industries SureFeed E2 magazines have a patented, enhanced feed lip design that reduces friction and improves bullet alignment. They also have a four-way, anti-tilt, self-lubricating follower that feeds the last round from the mag on the right side, just like the Enhanced Performance Magazine (EPM) the army wanted, but it's not the same. The E2 mag follower's top somewhat cartridge shaped just like all the old G.I. mags but blue, and the EPM follower is shaped more like a real cartridge except tapered in the back . Okay Industries SureFeed magazines are the original 30-round magazines, with over 40 years of battle tested use. They must have learned something during that time and had a reason for the switch in feeding position on the E2 mags.

Thanks for taking the time to do this video for us, however, please increase your broadcast or recording volume as you were very difficult to hear. I had my phone volume at maximum yet any ambient noise all but obscured your audio.
Again, thank you for taking the time to record and edit this and for giving us another opinion on these mags.

@thorin5772 thanks! Note taken. If I remember right I was having mic. Issues and had to go without and just use my phone that day. Thanks again though.

I will put my NHMTG magazines up against any other magazines on the market. NHMTG were made by Okay Industries. I hope that someone will come along and buy the NHMTG magazine making equipment, so that they can still be made for the civilian market. My NHMTG magazines are not for sale, at any price. I will keep them until I die. They ain’t the prettiest magazines on the market, but they work. That’s all I care about. Magpul anti tilt followers were already installed when I purchased them.

IIRC, straight mags don't need anti-tilt followers.

I just wonder if there are steel/aluminum followers. Magpul and Lancer potentially could crack or break. Worried about cold or heat potentially.

The polymers hold up solid in most all conditions. If your follower goes bad your magazine may have been close to if not completely shot for awhile. The other benefit to the polymer followers is they are self lubricating. Where if you had metal on metal it would require some form of lubrication.
