Hey, there is a way to make your arch start the proper rotation, in the same menu where you changed the rotation settings there is a box that says " reorient primitives on creation in the active 2d view" this makes it so the brush will orientate itself based on which viewport your mouse is over, although be careful as this will orientate block brushes aswell, and the textures on the block will be sideways if you dont select x/y when you make a block
TTNG RRjaym Oh hey, that's good to know. I'll leave the setting off personally because of the block rotation thing which would probably drive me insane and creating arches in top and then rotating isn't that much of a hassle. Nice catch!
This really helped me with a map i'm making, it's dm_runoff but there's an extra passageway to an inaccessible area that is actually there before, it's just hidden behind brushes. I want to make a curve into one of the pre-made archways and this helped me to get the basics of it, and make it still HL2DM style. Thanks for the tutorial man!
At around 1:45 where you explain texture alignment, you may want to explain (presuming that we're only using official SDK textures) that partnered textures can be identified by "a" or "b", etc. at the end of the texture's file name, just a quick tip that might help you from ravaging around trying to find co-operative textures!
Very clever trick the visual group filter for func_detail... I will definitely use it for my map the next time i will work on it (i want to release the first beta as soon as i can but i still suck on optimization, lol).
Your great at this. Could you possibly go over how to change character models for the player, for example instead of the default terrorist, make it an anarchist? I havent found any videos on it yet.
Sorry but they are not allways on the grid and sometimes a really annoying tool.. sometimes its just nice to cut a block out and cut it copy and use the vertex modifer tool or whats it called to drag those edges around to make anything really (how do you know if its becoming a error objected oh well it got its bugs I assume) also follow ToTac's tutorial on Arc Construction advanced to see some cool work I allways mess up mine Tips: better use nodraw when you do so and add textures after to really take down the texture size of your maps?
+NihiL same to you, I will keep a lookout for more videos, I just started making my first defuse map. If you want to see progress let me know my Steam is "Paradoxyc". I have some emojis on my name right now lmao
Thanks for watching! You could definitely just carve here but the Hammer carve tool is known to be buggy and as such is avoided like the plague by most mappers! :) Under certain circumstances it can create tiny or invalid brushes when it gets confused (or create vertices that are not on the grid) and since it's a lot of work to carve first and then go through everything and check that it was all done correctly, most people just make the geometry by hand so they can be sure as to what's going on!
+Arnolds Kļavenieks Thank you very much. I have not. Maybe I should try and post the videos on a map making reddit for Hammer if there is an active one!
I thought I had found all the Source Engine mappers on youtube, never even heard of this channel it just came up in my feed. You need to get yourself out there brother.
Dude, you did that all wrong. First, you created a disk, not an arch. Then you had to delete the bottom parts you didn't want. Don't do that. Make an arch with the thickness you want, and make it 180 degrees. Then you just use the vertex tool to attach to the other brushes... you don't have to create ANY new brushes to fill in the gaps.
I am 8 years fkn late bro. But thank you 4 posting this. I have been learning for a few days and damn, this is what I call technique. Congrats!

Fantastic episode. Just what I had in mind. You really are a good commentator and helper.
Thank you, and keep up the amazing work.
***** Thank you very much, Matho. That's very motivating to hear haha!

What a touch for: Arch Property
Thanks bro started making maps for fun and wanted to make some tunnels this was very helpful

+Kenny Redux (Kenrox) Nice! Good luck!
What would i need to do, if i wanted to crate a flatter arch (i circle which doesnt have the same diameter) thank you very helpful!
Your great at this. Could you possibly go over how to change character models for the player, for example instead of the default terrorist, make it an anarchist? I havent found any videos on it yet.
Blake O Thank you! I'll see where I can fit that in, it's pretty simple! Cheers and thanks for watching!
I need to know what your mic is because holy shit that sounds good (Edit: I forgot to mention at that time)
Any idea on why every time I want to make an arch, one block is always unaligned with the clipped blocks next to it.
also you explained that you needed to make a cutout for the arch, props cant be inside brushes is that gamebreaking?
not sure if it will work for large arches, you know arches for big bridge, then theres a water below it
My Editor crashed, when i did that :D
after selecting arch the thing disappeared and I cant select block anymore. :/
I had the object selected but shift V doesnt work?
I like your videos, your very mellow and explain very well. What is your accent by the way, is that german? If so, your english is very good.

Thank you...
in a beginner but i alwasys build the First part in no Draw and put an nodraw copy brick in the map een working
like you tuts, but why not just use carve here?

ah ok, didnt have that problem yet, but thanks for the quick answer =)
People have to know more about you! Have you posted yourself in reddit?

sweet. This reminds me to the early days, when hammer was anounced to work with CS (classic)
JohnnyMcAwesome Oh, and it didn't really chance since then ô0
Very helpful! Thanks!
Thank you AndryRock!

If you have the bsp and can decompile it, sure.

thanks mens!!
Thanks dude btw theres a tool called "carve" for the thing you did along the minute 7

You know you can just "cut" the shape you want with the tools/carve
the mic picks up your swallowing

Mouthsmack much? Sounds like you have gum in your mouth or something. Very distracting for people with misophonia. Hard to listen through.
