  • I show you how to make a really large rustic wall clock from reclaimed pallet wood and a clock movement found on amazon. This project requires a Pallet, a hammer, a jig saw, a drill, some solid stain or paint, a clock movement, some clock hands, and some picture hanging wire.
    The clock movement and hands can be found here:
    www.amazon.com/...
    The OOK hangers can be found here:

    I've found great e-book on wood prix. Good solutions for everyone I think.

    Another way to locate the numerals is to temporarily install the movement and hands. Then just crank the minute hand around and when its at 12, the hour hand will be pointing to the correct location for the number.

      Great tip, Bob. Tom Howbridge suggested that too. Definitely seems like the simplest way to do it! If I had only thought if that when I was making the clock...

      +Barry Parks I just checked the specs on that particular clock movement. It unfortunately can't be used outside. The pallet wood and solid stain would be fine, just not the mechanics. You might be able to replace the movement with one that could be used outside. Thanks for watching!

    Another great video!
    Hey man, is that the shop fox classic fence you are using? If so, I'm considering purchasing one in the next few days. How do you like yours?
    BTW: just a thought, you might be able to install the clock at the 12' position move the minute hand one full revolution and use the hour hand to reference where to paint each number.

    • @wmwalkerco
      @wmwalkerco  8 лет назад +1

      +ZH Fabrications Hey, yep. It's a Grizzly cabinet saw so they come with the Shop Fox fences (same company/factory/owner). I had upgraded to the longer rails though. I like it a lot. It locks down really well and doesn't jump off the mark when you lock it. It's super easy to adjust for parallel with the set screws. My fence had about a 10 thousandth bow in the middle. I called Grizzly and they suggested using aluminum foil as a shim in between the HDPE face and the rail beam. Now it's straight as an arrow.

    • @wmwalkerco
      @wmwalkerco  8 лет назад

      +ZH Fabrications Oh and yeah, some other folks recommended moving the clock hands too. It seems so simple in hindsight!

    I like the clock and loved your rough and ready approach - it made the project seem much more achievable than watching somebody using lots of fancy kit! I'd prefer no music on these 'How to' videos and don't understand why everybody seems to have it. This music was ok but it was a bit loud.

    • @wmwalkerco
      @wmwalkerco  5 лет назад +1

      Thank you for your feedback. I've since learned the art of sound design and have toned down the music. Music can tend to draw a viewer to watch longer. Think of it like an elevator, department store, or restaurant. To create ambiance so you spend more money. In my case it's adsense dollars.

    A other way of finding where to put the numbers is FIRST install the clock and it's hands.... make the 2 hands face the same way, BOOM there's 12! Now just turn your minute hand and every time it hits the 12 put a mark and there's ALL your numbers, EXACTLY..... again...BOOM

  • @TomHowbridge

    Thank you for making this video. My husband and I will be tackling this project next weekend when all our materials come in. I want to paint mine red and then give it a distressed look. Hey man, I'm only saying this because you have specifically asked for opinions, so I have a small one! The music, wicked cool vibe, but for any musically minded person who can't help gleaning every melody and rhythm like it's at top volume and in their face (however quietly played), hearing the same loop going round for up to 8 or nine minutes is going to drive them insane. I had to mute one of your newer videos after hearing the same little tune on loop for 6 minutes straight this morning, which is a real shame as your narration is brilliant! That's all I have to say constructively.l, your videos are great! It's a nothing thing to some, but to others it will keep them hesitant over watching your newer videos. A suggestion to remedy/refine the music in videos thing is to change the music for different parts of a build, or by having sections where there is no music at all, less is more etc. Great stuff though man, please keep sharing! I mean none of this negatively!

    • @wmwalkerco
      @wmwalkerco  8 лет назад

      +Jon Hammond I take no constructive criticism negatively! I welcome it (ya know as long as it's still creative and not just trolling). I feel like audio has been my biggest hurdle and other people have mentioned it too. I'm still working on how I "score" my videos. I'm going to start experimenting a little more with levels, tracks, and omitting music here and there. I really do appreciate your feedback. That's the only way we grow, right? By listening to others and taking into consideration the thoughts of the viewers, I can only strive to get better moving forward. Thank you!

    I've made me one for my kitchen but haven't added the clock hands yet. My question is how did you measure in between numbers with the tape measure my clock is 32 inchs with Roman numerals all I have is 12 3 6 & 9 on it so far. I'm scared to mess it up!

    • @wmwalkerco
      @wmwalkerco  8 лет назад

      Great question! I did a lot of trial and error with a tape measure and pencil but, some people commented a better way. Add your clock hands temporarily, set it to 12 o'clock, and turn the hands marking every spot on the hour. I.e.spin the clock until the minute hand reaches 12, mark 1 o'clock on the hour hand, spin the minute hand around again to the top of the hour, mark 2 o'clock, etc.
