    Wow, didn't know Sun Country did service to Eau Claire. So given that it's about an 1 1/2 hours travel - via highway - is it justifiable ? Were there wait times, etc in Eau Claire?
    I'm guessing Sun Country must be making $$$ for cargo being shipped to/from ....

      It's all really about money. EAU is an Essential Air Service airport, which are smaller airports that get government subsidies to fly from smaller communities to bigger airports. SkyWest used to hold the EAU bid to fly to ORD under United, but SC took that over in Dec 2022 with flights to MSP. Not sure it it applies to this specific route, but sometimes the subsidies are so much that airlines can actually make a profit flying empty aircraft on the EAS routes. This flight actualy originated in Ft. Myers, FL, stopped in EAU before continuing to MSP. This flight had approx. 80 passengers on it, with only 10-15 flying the EAU-MSP leg, the rest originating in FL and continuing to MSP. On the return leg, (which I'll be posting next friday) there were about 30 people on the flight, with only 3-5 deplaning in Eau Claire, the rest continued on to Ft. Myers, along with filling the entire plane, which has 180 seats for the EAU-RSW route. It was truly a strange experience to see a tiny wisconsin airport fully filled with people waiting to go to FL.
