You should set your FOV according to the distance you are to your screen and not just based on pure personal preference (lower FOV for sitting further away higher FOV for sitting closer). However, admittedly higher FOV is generally better due to the amount of information on screen that can be given to you at any moment in time and if it’s hard to aim (assuming you’re playing close to the screen) I got a tip for you, git gud. With that shit you don't even see a difference between walking and running, also, there is way more disadvantages than advantages if you use quake pro. 1. Way harder to aim: You see people way further away than you do with a normal 70-95 fov, this means it would inevitably be much harder to aim no matter how good your aim is, you are at a big disadvantage. 2. You would get less FPS and if your PC is kinda bad you will notice it a lot, and even if its not that bad, its way more probable your fps will drop below 60 more often if u didn't have that much fov.
@ArcticFrost Bruh, even if ur aim is insanely good quake pro is a disadvantage because someone as good as you or almost as good as you would destroy you just because you use quake pro and your rival doesn't
@ArcticFrost I would destroy u in a 1v1 so better shut up lol More visibility = worse aim, no matter how good you are, you are always going to have better aim if you use a more decent fov so there is no reason at all to use quake pro just for a little bit more visibility, just move ur fucking mouse to see to the sides smh. git gud and learn how to look to the sides. BTW, with your logic a 360 fov would be the best thing to use? lmao
I remember when I first started using quake pro, I had a leg fissure and couldn't go outside so I just experimented with Minecraft settings. When I changed from normal to quake pro I was like "wow, this makes me feel fast" and I played like that almost by 2-3 weeks and I never left my home (I was 12 so my leg still had to recover). I remember exactly after I finished recovering and my mother told me to buy milk for breakfast, when I was about to start walking in my mind I was like "well... getting to the market won't take me even 1 minute". I can swear that when I started walking across the street my anxiety levels raised to their maximum because I felt slow as hell.
@@jackThomson.... you can even test that out! just make a t pose and wiggle your arms up and down and you'll see your fingers, if you make your arms stay still you wont see it because of peripheral vision blocking it
what's funny about the eye placement jokes regarding MC FoV is that "Quake Pro" is actually a smaller range than humans actually have, it's just that the way fov is rendered in MC isn't how real life looks, as it's designed to look most like reality at "Normal" - this is also why the lower FoVs are so extreme, because it's not actually rendering the FoV in a way that's true to how light and vision works in real life. "Quake Pro" is about 110 degrees of view range (that's what the number on FoV means, it's degrees of vision range) but humans can actually see ~180 degrees. The main reason it looks so distorted is because MC FoV goes in all directions, while real vision is only that wide in the horizontal direction. You get about half as much FoV vertically IRL as you do horizontally.
I used to use a mod (forgot the name) in my singleplayer/multiplayer survival playthroughs that allows you to slide the FOV far beyond Quake Pro to the point where I would have a near 360 degree vision so I don't get "Surprised" by creepers or bloodthirsty players. I don't know what inhuman adaptability my 15 year-old self had, but I can vaguely remember terrifying whoever decided to sit next to me and watch me play.
I use around 95. I’m more of a chill skyblock player, and someone who plays a couple games of bedwars if I’m in the mood, and I find 95 fov to be comfortable

@@memeking5426 I mean sure, but it would likely still be a better analogy if he took two locations just a tad further away from eachother, like Greenland and Madagascar.
True, but from rewatching the clip where he made the statement it seems it was conjured up on the fly, which means he didn’t give it much thought. This pared with the fact that he has probably only seen maps of the continents where America is on the right side and the Pacific Ocean is split in half means that he most likely thought that saying what he said would be widely accepted as a sensible analogy of large distance. I am not new to minecraft but I like to play normal fov solely because I am a casual player. I spend more time building stuff over pvping, I'm that one guy you'd find building on a multiplayer creative server.
i’ve always been using quake pro. when my mother wants to watch me play, she makes me turn it down and i feel like i’m having a seizure, an aneurysm, and a stroke at the same time. edit: i’ve now turned it down to 105 because i hate that my aim is trash on quake pro, but decent on my current.
when i first played minecraft, i was new to pc games and i just thought it was a graphics setting so i maxed it out. playing on anything less than quake pro just feels weird now.
just force yourself to get used to it just like how you got used to quake pro. by maybe a couple hours you’ll get used to it. Ofc it’s not my choice but your do whatever you want I could care less.
One Day, a friend that plays on quake pro, came to my house, when he left i forgot to change the fov, i played like 3 weeks like that without noticing and now playing on normal fov is extremely rare to me.
When you get used is the most practical. You can see more and move better. The people who use low FOV, I think I know why they always die because creepers in their back. They actually can't see a thing with that configuration.
The exact same happened to me. I somehow didn't notice when my friend left, and I got used to it over time. Now any FOV lower than Quake Pro feels too restricting to play on
I use 90 FOV not because of those hypixel youtubers, but because i found out that back in like minecraft 1.8 or 9 that if you set it to about 89 or 90. your fishing rod would match up with the line when you cast it. I've been using that FOV ever since, with the exception of when I sometimes play Minecraft alpha, in which you cannot change your FOV at all whatsoever. It works well for pvp but- wait, I suck at pvp!
He insaulted me on a personal level I use quake pro because I only pvp 1.9+ preferably 1.16 and because of that I time my hits like it is halo with assassinations only
quake pro fov players are either: 1. Wanna feel so fast their mind starts to break. 2. They play Quake Live. (There's no strafe jumping in Minecraft so I dont think they exist.)
I use quake pro because when I first got the game I was like "well if I get used to seeing everything around me that'll be useful one day" was it? No. Now I get bullied for using quake pro
I do actually use Quake Pro. Although, I turned off the “Dynamic Fov” setting so I don’t look like I’m going at the speed of light when you splash a speed potion. I think I’m gonna try to switch over to 90 fov with “Dynamic Fov” on. Edit: I literally can’t change lol. I’m too used to how I normally play.
Played on quake pro for 5 years(non-competitive players who usually sucks in minecraft even though I play it for 10 years) When tried to start learn parkour realised that this speedy-sonic-shit doesn't work and I gradually changed the habit to use just 100 and 2 years after I'm so happy about it
Update!!: So I toned it down to 107 I think, and I got on skywars, won, got several kills in bedwars, AND I was able to get kills in the lobby of Herobrine. "To all all of you Quake Pro player: how do you not get a headache?" How do you get a not get a headache with anything else? I mean I grew up with it, and I wear glasses which that probably doesnt have anything to do with it. My FOV could very well be why I suck turd at pvp honestly. I'm not a super sporadic person, I'm more in the how you described the 90 FOV, so maybe I'll try it and see if anything improves. Edit: god this is getting way too much attention and I I'm reading everyone's replies every second lol
Well yea ofc some improved and also no headaches it just feels as normal it gives and advantage because of your screen esp if u have glasses on and yea for u it may look like shit snd make you lose cells but its normal
once u use quake pro for years like i have its SO annoying when u see someone not using it. it feels like ur zoomed in and cant see anything around you. but its ur opinion
Quake pro is not just an FOV, it's a style of living, like a religion. When you wake up, it's like you can see the whole around you without even aiming at it. Jk I use quake pro because you can see more stuff, and believe it or not but more is better than less.
i use 21:9 monitor and use 100 to quake pro is my usual spot tun off some screen effect annd that's gold cause see more stuff without turning too much is a luxury on small mouse pad.
Yes, but your monitor doesn't take up all of that. So when you have Quake Pro (110), all of that gets squished into something like 40% of your actual IRL FOV.
The reason quake pro is less than irl because the screen doesn't take up the whole screen. The list realistic would be the same fov as the degrees of vision the monitor takes up
The problem with anything above 90 is that if you like it, you can’t go back. At all. I used to use 80 on bedrock, but once I switched to java, I just had to up it on bedrock as well.
you: "if you have normal FOV, you either are in Single Player or just installed the game" me: "but I have this game since 2011 now, I just truly don't like anything above OR below, not even for PvP...."
Its called normal for a reason. Mojang call it normal because its what you are supposed to use for the best experience. I did a couple videos on having a quake pro + 255 speed and my head Hurt SOO much.
monitor size and distance play into this if you play with a small monitor, it takes up less of your irl fov, so it might make sense to match the setting to that amount. with a bigger monitor, it would take up more of your fov, so you adjust it to match. the distortion comes from the mismatch from your in game and irl fov that's needed to fit it all on the screen. IMO, the game fov should match your irl despite not taking up 100% of your irl fov, distortion be damned
A lot of people think quake pro is very awkward but when you get used to it lower fov feels very sketchy , as a person who plays in quake pro and plays both vanilla and pvp I think fov dosen't matters your skill matters more Edit: Now I have shifted to 95 fov and holy moly god damn I became famous by just a comment

More visibility = worse aim, no matter how good you are, you are always going to have better aim if you use a more decent fov so there is no reason at all to use quake pro just for a little bit more visibility, just move ur fucking mouse to see to the sides smh. git gud and learn how to look to the sides. BTW, with your logic a 360 fov would be the best thing to use? lmao
No dynamic fov on if you don’t have it on dont talk to me
I remember when I first started using quake pro, I had a leg fissure and couldn't go outside so I just experimented with Minecraft settings.

Yessir
what's funny about the eye placement jokes regarding MC FoV is that "Quake Pro" is actually a smaller range than humans actually have, it's just that the way fov is rendered in MC isn't how real life looks, as it's designed to look most like reality at "Normal" - this is also why the lower FoVs are so extreme, because it's not actually rendering the FoV in a way that's true to how light and vision works in real life.

Will yes , but actually no
Yes, but your monitor doesn't take up all of that.

I like how he said that he couldnt imagine having quake pro irl (110) when the actual fov of people is around 135 lol
monitor size and distance play into this
if you play with a small monitor, it takes up less of your irl fov, so it might make sense to match the setting to that amount.
with a bigger monitor, it would take up more of your fov, so you adjust it to match.
the distortion comes from the mismatch from your in game and irl fov that's needed to fit it all on the screen.
IMO, the game fov should match your irl despite not taking up 100% of your irl fov, distortion be damned
