Note: You might've noticed that this video is in 4:3 resolution. DOOM 2016 is a really weird volatile game to record (for me anyways) and doesn't work with my capture card plugged in unless I messed with the in game video settings a lot, one such change being to the resolution. Not the end of the world but if you were curious thats the reason -Alex

It really comes down to which game you played first. For you guys who played eternal first, you were mostly bored by 2016’s combat. The combat in eternal is flat out superior and it’s hard to downgrade after being spoiled. I played 2016 first and I found eternal’s platforming to be frustrating. It didn’t matter that they made the platforming better, they shoehorned WAY too much of it into levels that would’ve been better off with less of it.
Regardless of objectivity, I have a preference for 2016. The whole experience felt more balanced to me. The combat was mid compared to eternal but it was good enough, the pacing of the levels was great, and the story was fantastic. Eternal had amazing combat unlike anything else in gaming, and the rest of it was mid. I hated the story, there was way too much platforming, and the levels didn’t feel designed well.
My favorite thing about eternal was the slayer gates. I wish every level was just a giant slayer gate. The only type of platforming would be to zip around the arena. The secrets would all have a giant neon sign that said “SECRET HERE,” and the level ends when you reach a certain body count. Then again, like I said, I’m saying all this as someone who played 2016 first. Which one you start with has a big impact on your perspective.

@@EGGPLAYUH420j9Honestly I think it's worth buying anyways, you can look out for some nice discounts. I've seen Doom 2016 on the Microsoft Store for as low as $5 and I was able to purchase Eternal's Deluxe Edition (so it bundled the DLCs) earlier this year for only $20.

@@EGGPLAYUH420j9 That’s an understandable reason, especially if you can’t afford it. It does go on sale sometimes, and if you can find a physical copy at GameStop or something, it’s well worth the price imo. But I understand regardless.

I can agree a lot with your guy’s points in this list. I absolutely adore this game, even my least favorite level is still a great experience. My personal biggest annoyance with this game is that 100% on an Ultra Nightmare save file is impossible because you miss the first 3 Codex entries, but that’s a minor gripe at best. Here’s my list:
    1) Kadingir Sanctum
    2) Titan’s Realm
    3) Lazarus Labs
    4) Vega Central Processing
    5) The Necropolis
    6) Argent Facility (Destroyed)

    8) Argent Energy Tower
    9) Advanced Research Complex
    10) Argent Facility
    11) Foundry

    Regardless 2016 is definitely dated.

Hard disagree with the earlier levels feeling too slow. I played the game right after playing Doom eternal TAG nightmare and it feels like a different franchise. Such a heavy and amazing atmosphere. The earlier levels are peak level design, better than anything found in eternal imo. Of course the gameplay is not nearly as good which is what holds them to around the same level as eternal, but the level design is never repetitive and so immersive.

Great video, Guys! Doom (2016) was a fun game, even if I personally prefer Doom Eternal by a significant margin. I found a lot of the levels in Eternal far more unique and memorable than Doom (2016), although I agree that the quality of the maps definitely picked up after reaching Kadingir Sanctum. The one aspect of this game that I did prefer over Eternal was the boss fights (Spider Mastermind aside). 2016's version of the Cyberdemon is easily my favorite boss in the series, and the Hell Guards delivered a well-designed gank fight. I wasn't as big of a fan of how Eternal's boss fights forced you to also take on hordes of enemies in order to replenish your ammo while still dealing with the boss, itself, but I agree with you that The Gladiator was the best boss in that game.
I, myself, have only played four iD Software games, so here's my personal ranking from favorite to least favorite:
    1. Doom Eternal
    2. Doom (1993)
    3. Quake
    4. Doom (2016)
Have you guys played Titanfall 2? It's easily among my favorite FPS games of the 8th generation, but it didn't perform well commercially because it was released around the same time as Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. The boss fights aren't the best in my opinion, but the levels are outstanding. It has a fairly short campaign (only 9 missions), but some of the missions explore some innovative design concepts and offer some of the most spectacular set-pieces in the genre. I highly recommend it.
Anyway, I enjoy your content as always and look forward to your future videos!

Alex here, I also didn’t like how Eternal put smaller enemies in boss fights, thats something I find really obnoxious most of the time. I personally don’t like the old doom games that much since I cant understand the map and I always get lost since everything looks the same to me and I have to google every level lol. I’ve beat doom 2 but not the original. I haven’t played Titanfall, but have heard good things about it. I know next to nothing about it but might check it out sometime. Glad you liked the video!

@@Cytonox Yeah, honestly Doom Eternal is the only game in the franchise that even cracks my top 100 favorite games. I do like the other ones I've played but not to nearly the same level as Eternal. The original Doom suffers from the hardware limitations of the time, and a lot of the maps run together. To make matters worse, some of the later maps have very cryptic methods for reaching the exits, and they can be incredibly labyrinthine, as well. One thing I do appreciate about the older games, though, is that the enemies are naturally placed throughout the maps (similarly to the Soulborne games, etc.), as I do grow a bit tired of the plethora of arenas with waves of enemies the newer Doom games throw you into. I just found that formula a bit repetitive. That said, I still love Doom Eternal the best out of the franchise.
The main reason that Dusk is my favorite FPS of the 8th generation is that it takes what worked about retro FPS games and made plenty of quality of life improvements, while removing a lot of the major annoyances of those games. I initially didn't expect much from it, but it blew my expectations out of the water. Also, in contrast to a lot of retro shooters, it actually gets better with each episode in my opinion.

@@Cytonox Also, I forgot to emphasize that I was talking about Titanfall 2 and not the first game (which I've never played, myself). From what I understand, Titanfall 1 is a multiplayer-only game that has no campaign. Titanfall 2, however, seems to be widely regarded as the superior game and includes both a campaign mode and multiplayer.

Weird autism projection. But yes Jr, the game that actually requires you to move (something you're no doubt quite unfamiliar with) when fighting demons to death is better than the game where they practically sit still and are as unaggressive as you would be irl when getting cucked.
"Omg this video game actually wants me to have to use skill to play it? I don't get to sit still with a shotgun while the enemies of hell just take it and barely fight back? Waahhh you have "adhd" if you think fighting hell's armies requires speed wahhh. 🤡L
