Hi jonersrmj, as you said the new Mexico City International Airport was cancelled due to many voting against it. But, I saw something suspicious going on in Saint Lucia airbase, the airbase has been expanded to a huge airport. Saint Lucia airbase is at the northern part of the scrapped airport. I saw a linear concourse under construction similar to the Nanjing airport linear concourse terminal. Please make a video on the new Saint Lucia airport if you want. You may look in Google maps satellite view.
Having it attached to the concourse also makes sense because it eliminates the unused gates which were used more often when Pittsburgh was a notable connecting hub, which it said in this video.
The new design is not taking advantage of the x-shaped concourse…It completely eliminates the efficiency of the x-shape, also causing taxi times to increase, because airplanes don’t have 360 access to the concourse.
Looks like a completely new design. Makes lots of sense adding a new Head-House to an existing Air-Side Complex. If they need more gates in the future they can lengthen the existing piers. The former X-Design was built for US Air and their connecting hub operation. They dumped Pit after all that money was spent. Its a shame that the old Art-Deco 1952 Terminal was demolished. That building was one of the first in the US (along with Baltimore) to incorporate the Finger-Dock design.
I lived in Pittsburgh in 1992-1994 when the old airport was replaced by this for $2 billion. It's hard to believe that what feels like not all that many years later, it's back to the drawing board. Then again, in that time Atlanta replaced Fulton County Stadium with the Georgia Dome with Mercedes whatevertheheck that is. Do we know how many gates are lost in the is process? It appears that this means that Pittsburgh will never be a hub airport for any airline again.
@@andrewdiamond2697 Yeah, unfortunately, unless some major industry or something comes to Pittsburgh, I highly doubt it ever has a chance of becoming a hub. At most, it would be a focus city for low cost airlines.
Question, why doesn’t the a380 for emirates and Lufthansa come to Houston anymore, and Singapore haven’t heard of it for a while think they stopped direct flights here
Would you potentially consider doing a video on the future of Atlanta airport? They have a 6th runway, concourses G, H and I, new taxiways, and a couple other things in their planning.
@@jonesrmj You know what forget that idea. I have two much better suggestions. If you haven’t yet covered Hong Kong airport’s expansion, that would be a good one. I would also suggest Frankfurt’s new Terminal 3, which is due to open in 2026.
I like the content that you upload, I would like you to make a video about a second runway at the Jose Maria Cordoba International Airport in the metropolitan area of the city of Medellin
Thanks for the comment. If it’s just a new runway, then I’m not going to make a whole video just on that, but if there’s a major expansion or something, then I will.
@@jonesrmj I saw a linear concourse under construction in Saint Lucia air force base in Mexico City, an airfield expanded to an airport. Check it out in Google Maps satellite view.
This is a total waste of money. In order to save a few million dollars in annual people-mover expenses, let's spend 1.4 billion. The money could have been spent better elsewhere, like a people mover from the city to the airport that keeps being talked about but will never be realized because we need a pretty new terminal. I have been to dozens of airports and have never seen anything more functional than PIT. This is bad government and, in no way, enhances the region or makes us more competitive with any other city.

I see what you are saying.
I like the upgrades they're doing and I can't wait to see them in action

Agreed. Thanks for watching!
When will this project be completed
2025

All of the gates on the west side of the X are lost because that’s where the new landside portion is being built.
@@jonesrmj Seems like a major commitment to being "NOT A HUB".

"New" airport in 1993 was $700 Million, not $2 Billion.
Very nice 👍 subscribed
Thanks!

Not enough demand. Lufthansa retired all of their A380s as well
@@jonesrmj ahh thanks
Actually a very nice airport. Good to see it coming back to life.
Yep! Thanks for watching!

There would have to be a decent terminal project or something like that. If it’s just runways, then that is not really enough for me to do a video.

It's up to atleast 1 6 billion now!
Still upset about them destroying the people mover. Literally the best part of the airport. 😢😡
Yes ill miss the x building being in the middle of the tarmac

Houston airport by any chance, George bush intercontinental?
I haven’t herd of any major projects going on there, maybe I’ll take a look.

I don’t care for x design, it seems boring. Kinda wish they did something else but that just my opinion.
It's what they got already, might as well keep it around.
I mean, given that most airports are rectangles, the x shape is actually more interesting than most airports.
@@jonesrmj yeah but it was more intresting before this renovation ngl
