This is especially obvious when Tom finds a love interest and isn't even doing anything to Jerry, who proceeds to drop an anvil on his head for no apparent reason. As for Oggy, the cockroaches are undeniably the antagonists who scheme and devilishly laugh at Oggy after they inflict pain upon him and his friends, cause him to starve by stealing his food, and even manipulate Jack into hating or harming Oggy, not to mention, both Jerry and the cockroaches are unwanted pests who take up residency in another's house.

As for the cockroaches, sometimes I see them as protagonist like example they just want to have fun with others like watch tv or go to a trip, Oggy just hit them using a fly swat for no reason. Even also they make a deal or team up/truce with Oggy if there is someone that goes against them. We have different point of view and perspective so yeah.
Fun fact: This short won an Oscar for Best Animated Short Film, and it marked the first time that a studio won an Oscar with its first-ever animated short.

I remember watching this at my dads old apartment. He was in such a bad place money wise and partner wise. I say at his desk with his old desktop Mac, eating bananas my grandma chopped up for me🥰 ah, the memories.
I'm 21 now and I am so glad I grew up watching this cartoon. My childhood was so wonderful. A true cartoon, not an animated garbage like nowadays. Such simplicity yet such satisfaction. When I have kids, I will have them watch this cartoon, so they could know what it meant to grow up some 40-50 years ago (and so they could see what it meant to have normal cartoons). Peace ✌
