- Let's go thrift shopping! I'm also excited to share SO many pieces I collected over the past few months. This haul includes a range of vintage pieces and modern luxury pieces I could not believe ended up at thrift stores. We'll be using a lot of these pieces for upcoming projects and our home renovation!
About Melba Makes
This channel focuses on a buy “used” first approach to all things that go into making a home. Buying used as a lifestyle has allowed me to get a better value, save, and reduce waste. I create a variety of videos from interior design to following our home renovation journey. Come along for some fun thrifting for treasures, restoring pieces, decorating, and room makeovers. Also join us as we renovate our mid century California ranch house.
Thank you for watching! Your comments with anything I can touch on in future videos are really appreciated!
I'm glad to see some young people liking, using, and valuing good quality crystal.
Lucky you Waterford l collect it too . Life's too short not to have and use beautiful things.
❤️ do you have a favorite Waterford pattern? Which are your favorite crystal pieces?
I started collecting Waterford Lismore back in the 1970s. Some individual glasses were close to $100. You have done very well in getting pieces at bargain prices.
Love crystal and I’ve found some incredible pieces at thrift stores for next to nothing. People nowadays aren’t into clear glass. Their loss. This stuff is beautiful and most of all I love the sound. 💕those of you who love crystal know what I’m talking about. 💕💕
So beautiful! 💎😍
Is it because of the lead in them?
I don’t know for sure. But it must have something to do with it. Crystal sings when you hit it with something solid. Glass gives a quick thud.
I am I my late 50 and when I was growing up crystal vases and bowels were fashionable. I have a few pieces that my mother passed on to me but I have no use for them since they are heavy.
Amen Ladybug, I was fortunate enough to grow up in a 3 generation household that had beautiful cut glass and china. I have Steffe sterling silver dinneware ( gifted to me from Nana and Mother). When I turn a spoon over and see NCG, CGR or me ACR engraved on the same Rose pattern all 3 of us have my heart is filled with love and happiness.
When we moved to a new state, and drastically downsized, the only thing I refuse to get rid of was my Waterford. My grandmother started me on my Kildare pattern 47 years ago and I have found them in various Goodwill and thrift stores. Waterford is elegant. Plain and simple it shouts quality. Keep sharing your crystal and educating the young people out there who don’t know about beautiful classic table ware. Love your channel.
the celery dish is nice for a pair of eyeglasses, or a night table jewelry tray.
This is an excellent idea, thank you for sharing it! I think the length would work nicely to lay out necklaces 🤩
Maybe crackers…green onions, olives…
Waterford is beautiful, I’m Irish and my family has always been proud of this company
I’ve been collecting crystal for 46 years. All patterns. I even collect different color glassware . Red, cobalt dishes make a beautiful display. I’ve given my color crystal glassware to my granddaughters so they can start a collection. Cobalt blue, Red and amethyst dishes to my 3 granddaughters. The oldest grandchild loves the blue and picks up items from flea markets and garage sales. The other 2 aren’t old enough to get inspired yet.
I loathed crystal for most of my life and then one day my eyes just saw it differently and now you can’t stop me from buying it-used, of course! I collect it especially for my Christmas dinners by candlelight. It is gorgeous by candlelight. :)
I also found 4 Waterford, red wine goblets for .89 each while thrifting.
Incredible Shelley!! 👏🏽
The Waterford crystal is stunning. Great finds!!
Thank you Carol!
Hi Melba, I wanted to let you know. You can definitely wash your baskets. This is how I do it.
1. Spray with cleaner (409, Lysol or dawn & water or your fave)
2. If really dirty a med bristle brush. Scrub crevasses.
3. Rinse off with HOT water using spray nozzle.
4. Sit outside to dry.
I have great success doing this. Give it a try. Good luck...
Thank you for these tips Julia, helpful to hear that hot water can be used!
I watch a lot of thrifting videos and am always amazed at what people donate, especially on the west coast. I used to collect crystal, depression glass, and McCoy pottery. Your finds are outstanding; you have a good eye.
I am learning that west coast channels that go thrifting get the best deals. Do people on the west coast make more money?
@@garlicgirl3149I think so.
I love that butterfly painting. Okay, I'm subscribing after that find.
Ohhh!!! that celery dish would be beautiful with soaps in it along with the pretty glass canisters that are going in your bath 💕. I don’t think you can ever go wrong with Waterford!
Thank you Susie and I like this suggestion for soaps! ❤️🙏🏽😊

I am really loving your videos❤ About 80% of my home is thrifted. I love finding vintage and unique pieces that you can’t find anywhere else. Also, finding quality more expensive pieces at an amazing price is the best!
My hero!
Well done and well said! 👏🏽 I really appreciate the value or finding a unique piece you can’t find in a store today!
I love crystal, also always buy when I spot it out thrifting. And I love the ting sound only crystal makes. Those Champagne coupes are gorgeous.
I found 7 of the same Waterford sherbet glasses for $15 at a garage sale this weekend !! Total score
What a deal Kat!! 👏🏽 enjoy! 🤗
Celery dish is great for olives, crackers nuts. Great haul! Love your content!
My crystal is my favorite to collection. I first started collecting rose bowls. Now, I have a ton of it. I have found a lot of Waterford Crystal. One I’ve my favorite pieces is a Waterford picture frame. Don’t forget to look in the frames section for Crystal!!! I stop at thrift stores just to see if they have beautiful crystal. My absolute favorite piece is a large Tiffany & Co. crystal bowl. 🥣 ❤ thank you for sharing your videos!!
What a score, a Tiffany & Co. bowl?! So fun to hear what you have found, thank you for sharing and enjoy Kim!! My first Waterford was a rose bowl, it’s still one of my favorite pieces 🌹 ✨
I love crystal. During college I use to work in a china department and was hooked. I too look for crystal and china at thrift stores.
Baskets! Always buy baskets...lol. I have 8 hanging that I use when going for walks foraging for fruits, or when I make a small grocery shop. I use 19 every day around our boat, for holding apples, citrus, potatoes, onions, eggs, tomatoes, stationary, makeup, scarves, hats, gloves, cat supplies...the list goes on. If I need to wash them I do a blend hot water and vinegar with a couple of drops of soap and dip the basket in, use an old toothbrush to scrub, wipe it down, quick rinse and set it in the sun to dry. Good as new! I have one that is almost a hundred years old from France!
Fantastic scores, btw!! I love vintage crystal stemware and barware!
I got Waterford Lismore champagne flutes as a wedding gift 35 years ago and I was hooked. Picked up a few more pieces on a trip to Ireland 25+ years ago and gave my husband snifters as a special Xmas gift early in our marriage. Recently i have scored big at thrift stores. $4.99 for 4 red wine glasses, total, not each. White wines for $1.99. Water goblets, 4 for $10. A decanter for $5. Most stores don't know what it is and think it's old granny glassware. Maybe it is, but I love it.
I know this is kind of off-topic, but I LOVE your jacket!!! That is SO classy!
My favorite find is a Henredon Asian Chinoisserie sofa table which I " rescued " from a dingy , junk-filled secondhand store . I had worked in interior design in the 70's & was astounded to see this familiar piece , in lovely condition , & for virtually only a few dollars ! ! A friend I worked also found a pair of Henredon lamp tables fr. a different H. Collection at another , nicer , secondhand store & like me , recognized the quality & value & " spirited " them away ! 💟
Crystal is timeless
I love cut crystal. I use one as a bathroom sink glass. Adds a touch of sophistication.
Hey Melba! Just found your channel. Each waterford glass took an artist over 14 hours to make. The vintage waterfordnis higher quality, so you should be pleased to have such well crafted items in your collection. I love making cocktails in coupe glasses (sherbert) and floating an edible flower. Thanks for sharing!
Incredible! Thank you for sharing that insight - I have a deep admiration for the craftsmanship 🙏🏽 I am sooo excited to have the coupe glasses! Sounds like luxurious treat with the edible flower, cheers Amy! 😊
Such great finds! The crystal is all beautiful 🤩
Just recently found your channel and am catching up on your past videos. I absolutely love your content! My husband bought me my dream house a mid century modern house with a butterfly roof. I have curated the decor and furniture all from estate sales. So addicting and really the best way to find solid wood furniture at affordable prices. Love seeing what you find!
Amazing! What a beautiful architectural feature you have with the butterfly roof! 🤩 I share the same experience of having found most of my solid wood pieces at estate sales 🙏🏽 do you have a favorite or surprising find?
New subscriber here, thank you algorithms! I too, am an avid thrifter and estate sale junkie. My wife and I are building a new home and we have already started collecting items for new home. Found Waterford cognac glasses at an estate sale. Wife says resell I say heck noooo.
Woohoo! Enjoy sourcing all the treasures for your new home! Congrats on your Waterford find! 👏🏽😊
You’re not alone. I got into crystal many years ago. It was more of a thing in my day (I am in my 70’s). I can’t store anymore in my small home, otherwise I’d still be hunting.
It’s so fun to meet Crystal fans! Do you have a favorite maker and/or pattern in your collection?
@@MelbaMakes not really, I just bought what I liked. Turns out most of it is Gorham
Love your style, I really enjoy crystal as well. Your thrift store prices are amazing!!!
Crystal is coming back! And yes if I find them I get them!
You have a great eye for finding treasures!
Thank you Michelle and thanks for watching! ❤️😊
You found some nice! pieces I love thrifting too & love crystal even more 😊Tfs
I’d love to find some Waterford crystal at the thrift store!! I would definitely buy that!! Lucky you.😊👍🏻
Love the crystal…I have owned several different wine, brandy and old fashioned Lismore glasses for a very long time. Your finds are amazing….I used to save them only for special occasions, as I was afraid that they would break because they are so expensive, but I have learned to use them whenever! You have a great eye for quality…keep collecting!!
Your collection sounds fantastic and I’m glad you are enjoying your pieces! Thank you, I was SO excited about the coupe glasses ✨😊
I LOVE crystal. I have a collection from different countries. Every drink taste better in crystal. I love your collection!
Love crystal, there’s nothing like finding pretty dishes at the thrift store. I am here for it!
I love crystal.
Is it the sparkle? ✨🤩
I LOVE that $3 landscape painting at the beginning. Beautiful. And that ice bucket -- so unique! Great finds.
Thank you Ann! I really like both of those pieces too and I want to make a frame for that little painting! ❤️now, what color frame? 🤔😊
I have been fortunate enough to inherit my grandmother and mother’s crystal and silver. I love the crystal wheather in style or not it’s all on display.
Enjoy all your pieces Debbie, it’s so special that they have been in your family for multiple generations!
Great finds! I am loving crystal right now.
Love your style. You can’t give away crystal in Knoxville. I do like it. Maybe you’re ahead of the curve and, with all things style, California is the leading edge! I’ve subscribed and am looking forward to many more videos.
You have done a great job choosing these items for your home. You have great taste.
Thank you for the kind words Daisy! 😊❤️
@@MelbaMakes you're welcome
The Container store sells spice containers that would fit your spice rack perfectly! I love all of your finds!!
Thank you Beth! ❤️
Love your WatefordCrystal!
If you ever find a beautiful one-off sherbert glass or wide champagne glass, get it. Put them on your bureau and hang earrings around the edge. Elegant and beautiful! You could even gift someone a pair of dangle earrings and a beautiful glass to use to display them. Perhaps you could repurpose your celery Waterford for that, or serve olives, carrots, and celery in it for an elegant charcuterie board.
So many great ideas here, thank you!
Love all your finds! You have a good eye! ❤
Thank you Anna! ❤️
I usually look for crystal, especially large serving pieces and vases. I’m drawn to modern designs like those from Kosta Boda and Orrefors. Last year I gave some of these finds as holiday gifts- they were a big hit!
Oh wow, I just took a closer look at both brands you mentioned and there are so many stunning pieces! Thank you for sharing with us and those are some special holiday gifts! 👏🏽👏🏽
I love crystal too. I use my celery dish for cranberry sauce, it looks so pretty!
Sounds pretty! Thank you for sharing this one!☺️🙏🏽
Wow love ceystal soooo much , i love ur style amazing ❤❤❤🌹🌹🌹🌸🌸🌸🌷🌷🌷
My sister is moving cross country she donated so many beautiful things.
I LOVE CRYSTAL!!!

Your thrift hall was great! I find it hard to walk past wooden bowls!
Crystal is beautiful.
Thanks Colleen! It’s soo fun to find things we enjoy, I wish you many amazing wooden bowls in your future trips! Lol
I have a crystal collection as well love glass decorative pieces and dishes
I enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.
I love waterford crystal, and others too-awesome!!
❤️✨
New subscriber because you have great taste! Great video.
I went to Ireland last year and visted the Waterford store/factory. You can do a tour and its amazing to see how they make everything by hand. Each item takes a lot of time to make. Good Quality items.
Amazing! The factory is on my list of places to visit! Would appreciate hearing about any specific things to see/tour when making the visit
I just found your channel and love the content. I’m preparing to move and love the idea of finding previously owned furniture to use, rather than finding new. I’m really inspired by all of the things you have shared!
Thanks Kathy and I hope you have a smooth move!! 😊
Amazing Haul! Love the Beautiful Sound the Crystal Makes!❤
Thank you Connie! 🥂 *clink*
Love this! Great job and you have a beautiful aesthetic!
Found your channel because my name is Melba, so it caught my eye when RUclips suggested it. I am so impressed with your taste, skills, and even your soothing voice! Your content is outstanding so I subbed right away. I wish you the best of luck with your channel. Melbas rock! 😉🤗
Great to meet you fellow Melba!!! We have one more Melba who is a part of the community, it’s the most Melba’s I’ve met in my life lol thank you for the kind words and I’m glad you are enjoying the channel!❤️❤️🤗
Love how you purchase things for others. Looking for quality items for them. So very thoughtful of you!
As an antique dealer who has been retired lo these 20 years, I love Melba's enthusiasm. It so reminds me of myself. I also love her gentle demeanour & could listen to her for hours.
You must know sooo much about all sorts of vintage and antique items! Thank you for the kind words ❤️
I have put wicker in the dishwasher and they came out just fine.
I have the same zebra patterned hurricane. I use it as a toilet paper holder in my bathroom. It’s totally unexpected but I love it.
I love that idea!
What a pretty toilet paper holder! You’ve inspired me to look at it more multi-purpose now!
What a great idea!
@@MelbaMakes I think the brass "hooks" you showed in this video have an indented cutout that's meant for a wooden or brass rod. That way, they could be used to create a towel rack or TP holder.
I just found your channel today 4th of July 🇺🇸, and enjoying your videos, I live in SoCal. Thrifting is so fun, I’ve also donated items I no longer use to local thrift stores, love when someone else can use them. I’ve been collecting crystal since the 80’s, aging myself, but I still have them, they’re displayed in a china hutch I bought off of Offer up.
Love Crystal items
That plate with the woman in the dress I believe I have those and they are semi valuable. It's when you're holding the blue bowl.
I love finding Waterford crystal at thrift stores. I’ve found several beautiful pieces at really low prices!
Do you have a favorite find, I enjoy hearing what we all have found! 😊
Love your videos!
So happy to find your channel!!!
Happy for us to meet Heather!
Crystal is beautiful setting where the sun shines on them 🤩🥰
I love crystals and I started also collecting glasswares 😊
Woohoo! Is there a specific type of glassware that you enjoy collecting?
@@MelbaMakes I love and always on the hunt for Villeroy & Boch Miss Desiree collection for its timeless look!
They look very sophisticated Josy!
Girl - what amazing finds! You are so cute! Love your content and I love your voice! Also love that you’re getting into crystal. We old gals all got it when we got married. I feel terrible that I never used mine. Sold it to an antique store recently. But it is so nice to see younger people getting into using crystal and silver for entertaining. Anyway, I’m jealous of all your cool finds!!
Thank you!! 💕🤗 I hope you have found some new treasures since then that you enjoy!
My mother gifted me her wedding crystal and china when she stopped cooking. My guests are always mightily impressed when I serve them my humble meals on that magnificence!
I’m from Stourbridge,England. Home of cut glass(also links to LCTiffany) where all the charity shops are full of crystal. People don’t want it because it’s not dishwasher safe but I am bucking that trend. I have my g and Ts in crystal goblets, kir Royales in crystal flutes and a mantlepiece of tea lights in crystal bowls Every day is special and all for a few pounds…
Wow! You definitely have killer thrift spots- congratulations
Thank you! 🤗❤️
New subscriber here, hello from Nova Scotia 🇨🇦 Loving your content❣️
You have excellent taste!
Love everything!!!!
The celery dish can also hold some olives and cornichons. Or you can put some pretty macarons in it for that outside-I forget whether you said breakfast or brunch. I’m going with brunch. The champagne glasses could hold some fruit salad. Melon balls, pineapple chunks, oranges, grapes, etc.
All great options, thank you! 😊
I collect Waterford too! Absolutely love it! You have a great eye- thanks for sharing!
Amazing! Is there a specific pattern you collect or a favorite piece in your collection?
LOVE CRYSTAL!! I collect vintage glassware
💎✨
💚💙💚 crystal !!!
💎✨
Your Waterford finds are exceptional. I want your champagne coupes, I'm very jealous. Let's make a deal. I've got Champs (champagne) in the frig. Just found you on youtube, I loved the thrifted living room you worked so hard on.
When do I come over with the glasses for the bubbles? 🤗 Thank you Audrey, let’s manifest you finding some coupe glasses too!
Instantly loved you video. Subbed right away. We have similar taste. I have thrifted so many Waterford pieces
Thank you and woohoo! What’s your favorite find?

Thank you Denise and I’m so happy that you are enjoying the channel!! ❤️😊
Loved all your Finds especially the Butterfly painting and the Waterford💚☘️💚
My mom loves crystal pieces, and after she renovated her bathroom last year, she used some of the pieces to store items in her vanity.
Melissa, you and a couple of people in our community have shared using it in bathrooms - it sounds like a lovely place to use it! Your mom’s vanity sounds very pretty!✨💎
I love the way crystal sounds, also I find water tastes better coming out of crystal glasses, because they are so thin, I can’t explain it, it just tastes better!
Great finds! Love your videos!
Thank you Teresa! 😊🙏🏽
I like your constant & taste thanks for sharing…
Thank you Patty! 💕🤗
It looks like your brass "hooks" have a cut out or indent, where a wooden or brass rod would rest. That way, you could use them as a towel holder, or even super high-class TP holder.
Oh wow! Thanks for pointing out that the hole could be used with a rod for more purposes! Great eye! Thank you! 😊
You scored!!
🎉 we did! Thank you Carrie 🤗
Mind your Waterford Crystal, it is very much a collectable and will appreciate in money in years to come. Mairead from Ireland 🇮🇪
I would really like to go to the factory in Ireland one day! Thank you for saying hello from Ireland! 👋🏽
Olives in the celery dish!
