Ola Brunkert, lead drummer for almost every song ABBA made, was one of the cleanest drummers I have ever heard. He keeps an aggressive, yet simple, beat that complimented this fabulous groups already beautiful songs. Ola accompanied them in the background never in competition but also never relinquishing rhythmic control.
This is one of those songs that cannot be improved upon..In its time it was so unusual,so different, and unique.Nobody could touch ABBA for creating new boundaries in music, and The Visitors was one of those ..It still gives me chills when I hear it..Fridas voice is amazing on this one ..Nice one Jim..Cheers..
ABBA...what more can I say about these amazing Swedish genius song writers and 2 totally amazing Female Vocalists? Words cant describe how brilliant they are and how such highly 'INSANE' level talents can exist on earth. Without Benny and Bjorn, the girls wont have such amazing songs to perform and show their unique Vocals. Without the 2 girls' unique vocals, ABBA songs will never sound as good we know them. They really need each other in ABBA. No band is without any problem and ABBA is no exception. There is no perfection in humans and ABBA members are humans too. Let us all remember ABBA and their tremendous contribution to Pop music History for setting the bar so high for the others to follow...which still cant be matched by any other act...solo or otherwise. May God bless ya ABBA. You are truly beyond words!
That summed it up nicely. Abba is the evidence that sometimes the end product is far greater than the sum of its parts. And when the individual parts are all geniuses in their own rights, then you get a ridiculously fantastic end product. Thank you for the music!
This is my favourite song EVER. Every time i listen to it I hear more "buried" elements (the whispers, the harmonies). I remember the first time I heard it in a club--it was brilliant. Dance floor packed. Thank you, ABBA, for this incredible gem. So unlike anything else. Just brilliant.
@Frida's icy electronic style vocals are so brilliant, perfect for the song ... and remember they did everything the analogue way back them! Long live their great studio musicians and Michael Tretow, their sound engineer, who figured out how to present their typical ABBA-Sound.
Frida's vocals are brilliant on this fabulous track. She is so versatile and so underrated, in my opinion, she deserved a lot more recognition than she got, compared to Agnetha, for her contribution to this band. I was knocked out when I first heard this, and the whole album for that matter, it was completely different to their normal stuff. This album was ABBA reaching a new maturity for me and I was so gutted there wasn't another. This track always gets turned up when I play it, love It!! 💕
+CHRIS GOFORTH ABBA was so far ahead of its time, that 35 years after the break up and nobody has caught up yet. They were four pieces of a puzzle that fit together perfectly. As usual, the media pushed and shoved them so close together that they couldn't even breath. Marriage is hard enough but when your can't go anywhere or do anything to relieve your frustrations, things eventually come crashing down. Divorce is an ugly word but when it happens in front of the whole world, I am honestly surprised that they had the strength and courage to still work together. I believe the girls were the driving force that allowed them to continue. Both were unbelievably strong and courageous.
Takes me right back to Memorial Day weekend 1982 Sunday night at TRAXX in downtown Cleveland. I remember when this song played & not too long after SYLVESTER came into the bar- after he performed at Exedra. I got Sylvester's autograph ! I heard this song 28 years ago and was truly amazed. A totally different flavor in the '80's. Not being an Abba fan at time this song made me listen to how deep their music was. Glad I found this on RUclips as it brought back beautiful memories on how the music scene of that time was so timeless. Nothing else compares today!!
This song is sublime. The melody, beat and lyrics, with the melancholy topic somehow should not go together. No other group could emulate this skill, but the song really does work as a genius piece of songwriting. It's a musical paradox. And that's why it's brilliant.
I Absolutely Love This Song!!!!! One Of The Best Ever Chorus’s Out There! Brilliant Band, Brilliant Song, It’s Also So Glad To Hear That They’ve Made A New Album After 40 Years!! It’s Called ‘Voyage’ Brilliant!!

+Kent Mains Very true, and they're hardly ever thought of as an '80s band - who'd have known what could have been. Also, their stuff from 1972 stands up to anything from the late '70s.
They obviously made an impact on the pop/rock sound as they were so distinct and at the same time so diverse in their genre crossing borders between rock/pop/disco and musicals. In this song I hear much of the sound that later came in the brilliant musical Chess by Björn and Benny.
One of their finest. So deep, chilling and political. Pure brilliance, once again, from messrs Andersson and Ulvaeus. And of course it HAD to be Frida's vocals.

this song is sang by Frida, I find this very very nice, she had a wonderful voice and charisma, and even Agneta was my all time favorite I have always recognized Frida as an amazing artist and singer, plus she was so beautiful, when the part where she sings help me always moves me
Fantastic video, Jim. The Visitors was definitely the best album - this track is quite haunting but at the same time really beautiful. I'm nearly 17 and I listen to ABBA practically every day (which tends to confuse my friends a lot). I think that though they sound very different from the last 'happy' album, which I feel is Voulez Vous, from just two years before, they are just as good and possibly even better.
I just love this song!! The lyrics are totally mysterious, kind of creepy. Their last album "The Visitors" was an absolute masterpiece and this song is specially tailored for Frida.
Indeed -- this is one of their best songs ( how does one pick 'best' with ABBA? LOL ). It features the melodic harmonies of a maturing group, along with the just-right selection of beat and layering of the music, letting it build until you simply get caught up in the excitement of the total package. Thanks, Jim, for the excellent job of putting this together....well done!
Прощальный мессидж этих "небожителей",как всегда ,все четко,гармонично,изысканно,неповторимо...Дай им Бог здоровья на долгие годы!Они сделали и делают нашу жизнь лучше...
Of course they had to be swedish to do everything perfect. I believe that by this time in their career they had grown so much that they had to end it all. I can not imagine the music they would have created if they had continued. They gave everything they had and the world wasn't ready for anything else coming from them!
I always thought this song was about aliens or just being kidnapped, but apparently it's actually a song about dissidents who get arrested in the USSR! I now have a newfound appreciation for this song. Really appreciate that ABBA got political in one of their songs, not to mention just being a super catchy song
As Benny and Bjorn have said over and over and over and over and over and over. Their big success happened when they added the girls. Guys lke you refuse to listen to BB when they say the girls changed everything for BB. BB and Michael and Rutger were writing, producing, recording for tons of artist before the ABBA girls. Things went BOOM when the girls were added. When BB added their girlfriends, that is when their songs they were writing and producing exploded. People noticed the girls, because they knew how to deliver the message of the song. The girls can deliver with emotion like a man made instrument cannot. Benny recently said in the past year or so, their big success is 90% because of the girls. He explained it this way -- paraphrasing..."listen to ABBA covers of various artist. They can copy the melody, music, etc...out sound EXCEPT the girls vocals and emotions. And of the two girls, Frida is the one that has a stellar reputation among her peers. Known her her keen ear, diaphragmatic breathing, control, versatility and her chameleon like vocal versatility. In this song, Frida said she mimic the sound of a sitar to get that cold/ icy delivery on the verses. Remember Frida was the favorite of Stikkan Anderson and the boss. Known for his brilliant catchy songs in the 60's that he taught BB. Stig showed how to put songs together. We owe Stig for securing Frida. The last and most reluctant to join a pop group. An artistic comedown from her more complex vocal centric genre to include jazz. And then you have Michael Tretow brag on Frida. He essentially said her vocal instrument is perfect. He called her vocals "hi-fi" (high-fidelity). See this interview on RUclips. He like Stig is a huge fan of Frida. Polar Music/ABBA team: Stikkan 'Stig' Anderson Gorel Johnsen (Hanser, 1981) Anni-Frid Lyngstad Benny Andersson Bjorn Ulvarus Agnetha Falkskog Rutger Gunnarsson Micheal B. Tretow & ABBA/Polar Music's top tier session and touring musicians. The session musicians had lots of influence and came-up with bass lines, guitar riffs, etc... BB had the framework. Then they would bring it to the musicians and the would all work on putting the music together and laying down the track. The songwriters are officially attributed to: Stig Anderson, Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvarus. And unofficially, not credited are their session musicians.
redclam... Thank You for your kind comment. I really believe ABBA was well before their time. So appropriate for todays problems. This generation is receiveing their message. ABBA has been immortalized in time through their song. There is a new resurgance in ABBA music these days. Peace to you my friend, we will always be brothers first!
Wellcome ABBA music in this 2.019 !!! I'm still listening this and all their songs !!!! Very Nice !!!! Thank for sharing . Congratulations for this selection of group and music . Greetings from Chile .
I revisited this song after absolutely years of not hearing it (and as a preteen, I always liked it for the sound), and then I understood the lyrics and meaning and just kinda said 'holy shit'
Since my teens until now (I am already 50 years old) this song still makes me dance with all my heart. Thanks a lot ABBA, there will never be another group like you in my heart.
This song is so heavy, takes me always to tears. I love abba for this song. Whenever I know something went wrong, I know this song can bring me to cry. After that, it is always much easier. That´s why females life longer. They cry everything out. I have to take this way...
ABBA has always been before its time thats why 30 or 40 years after their songs are still strong ! ABBA Sound is floating up there and traveling through the Mwusic landscape
ABBA and The Beatles are the best musical groups ever!!! they both inspire many people. they inspire me!!! Those of u who disagree with me, well, u can have your opinion but i think mine is better. i think the world was lucky to have the beatles in the 60s and abba in the 70s right after the beatles!♥
Their stuff was always wonderfully put together. Everything is in the right places at the right times. Why they never really got their due I don't know.
400 Million records sold....9 number one Albums worldwide...."Mummia Mia!" smash hit musical and movie....and hey! they're still relevant today. Their GOLD album has been in the UK Charts for 20 years without ever leaving the Charts. And...they have avatars of themselves playing concerts in London next year (250,000 tickets sold in 3 days)....I think they got their due!!!!!
It's 2014 and the debate (Frida or Agnetha) as strong today as it was 40 years ago. Hey ABBA fans that debate will NEVER END. Validation they are the greatest artists of ALL time. Debate ON until the end of time!
Another great song by them... Brings back some sweet memories when my friend use to pick me up in his Ford Escourt 1300, playing this song on his Alpine Tape deck. And then we on our way.. going to visit some girls. or just driving around and listen to this song and the others of this ABBA album.. WOW.. and that was in the 80's.. 37 years ago !!!! remember it like yesterday.. TIMELESS !!!!

I've not heard this since like 1982! It just popped into my head for no reason and I forgot how incredible it is! Way ahead of its time!
Да,непревзойдённые музыканты.
"Now I hear them moving, muffled noises coming through the door..." Powerful lyrics and I love the music at the break
Of course they had to be swedish to do everything perfect. I believe that by this time in their career they had grown so much that they had to end it all. I can not imagine the music they would have created if they had continued. They gave everything they had and the world wasn't ready for anything else coming from them!
I always loved this song by them. I only heard it in the clubs in the early '90's ..... we danced and danced and danced. Good times!
Oh my God , I love this Swedish ABBA pop group and all her music ever .
Masterpeace from the boys and girls🥰
I always thought this song was about aliens or just being kidnapped, but apparently it's actually a song about dissidents who get arrested in the USSR! I now have a newfound appreciation for this song. Really appreciate that ABBA got political in one of their songs, not to mention just being a super catchy song
same here, i always thought that some one was trying to kidnap Frida!!
the sound so ominously tearing through the silence!
Kudos to to their brilliant engineer and Co producer Michael B. Tretow..and Benny of course..

ABBA/Polar Music's top tier session and touring musicians.
I discovered this song recently, think it's brilliant! Great music and vocals.
Benny and Bjorn at the absolute height of their songwriting. More angst in this one song than in Morrissey's entire back catalogue.
I had this album on cassette when I was 11 years old... wore it out. Still love it as much as I did then.
redclam... Thank You for your kind comment. I really believe ABBA was well before their time. So appropriate for todays problems. This generation is receiveing their message. ABBA has been immortalized in time through their song. There is a new resurgance in ABBA music these days. Peace to you my friend, we will always be brothers first!
love this one !!!!!!!!!they made such a unexpected songs!!!Its amazing ,there songs still work these days!
Abba brought much of the World together through their music and no one realized they were the catalyst! Powerfull. Still popular 34 years later.
I'm so glad they made some more songs recently
I know I’m so excited!!! I hope they will start to tour again as holograms
Stop waiting.
There stuff was always so wonderful put together. Just well crafted pop.

Club dancefloors were on FIRE when the DJ spinned THIS........
I revisited this song after absolutely years of not hearing it (and as a preteen, I always liked it for the sound), and then I understood the lyrics and meaning and just kinda said 'holy shit'
I was always amazed how ABBA changed guidelines year after year never loosing theyr brilliant quality.
Very good song ❤😂😅. I love ABBA ❤❤

By far, their best song. Yes Brad. I REMEMBER!

A really smashing hit from them, a bit different, but very Abba anyway:D I love it. One of their best from the later period.
GENIAL ESTA CANCION DE ABBA !!!!!! SON LO MAXIMO !!!!
Australia here and they were huge
400 Million records sold....9 number one Albums worldwide...."Mummia Mia!" smash hit musical and movie....and hey! they're still relevant today. Their GOLD album has been in the UK Charts for 20 years without ever leaving the Charts. And...they have avatars of themselves playing concerts in London next year (250,000 tickets sold in 3 days)....I think they got their due!!!!!
They are getting their due as they should. Their music will live forever and that is the best “due” anyone can possibly get.
This was my favorite ABBA album, too bad it came at the end of their careers.
This is such a great song! Bring it on!
It's 2014 and the debate (Frida or Agnetha) as strong today as it was 40 years ago. Hey ABBA fans that debate will NEVER END. Validation they are the greatest artists of ALL time. Debate ON until the end of time!
Frida
No difference.

Beautiful....a bit of "tomorrow never knows" style on the vocal.
