The funniest thing about the esports scene in this game is like half the pro players were 13-14 when they started playing
Honestly never heard about this game before as an esports. Definitely "underground" with how many people there are but not enough marketing in the mainstream.

Since all the Pros are pretty much in the same age group of the playerbase [15-20] and a lot of them are also consistent content creators it makes them really easy to relate to so I think that's why their esports scene has been successful. I've taken several long breaks from the game but I never stopped following the esports scene, so many interesting pro players to root for. My favorite's probably Sting Ray, at age 15 he was ranked #254 and beat the World Champion in a best of 5 in the tournament right after World's.

It's so weird to think that Brawlhalla is probably one of the biggest and the most played fighting game right now, yet the comp scene isn't very big compared to much smaller games. I really like the game, it was my intro to fighting games as a whole, and I would love to see the competitive scene blow up someday.

This game doesn't get enough coverage from esports news outlets. Most esports "journalists" probably don't even know Brawlhalla exists.
A part of the goal of this series is to showcase esports communities that don't get enough time in the spotlight but have unique stories to tell. Hopefully we can keep on doing more of these in the future.

I had just bought a gaming laptop, and was looking for free games on Steam. And then I discovered this absolute gem of a game- a game called BRAWLHALLA. I told my friends about it, and one of them was already playing at the time. I started playing with them in private rooms, and also online, casually. Obviously, when I started, I SUCKED. I was just a punching bag for other players. Then, gradually, I found my character, and got better. Now, I wouldn't be overstating things if I said I completely annhilate my friends.

@@somedude0921 alright, well right off the bat there are a lot better players than myself, but what you're going to want to work on is working on movement (spacing and quick movement to give quick approach options and punishing). great examples are sandstorm and boomie who use platforms and whatnot to their advantage with platform dashing.

Underrated channel
I think a great esport to cover would be pokemon singles (Smogon/Pokemon showdown) . It is often overshadowed by doubles however it has a dedicated fanbase, lots of resources and guides. While the tournament's of it arent very big, alot of top players with unique playstyle and teams play and I think many people would be happy to feature in the video.

@@uriahcrawford8338 Brawlhalla, while has a lot of players, it's not really a fanbase. They play the game occasionally because they're bored, and have nothing else to do. While this game has many dedicated players, it's still a small game by the sense of actual fans. If I just stumbled upon Brawlhalla, and played it sometimes when everything else was boring, I wouldn't go around praising the game, saying it's the best in the world and all that. It's just a game I played a few times. A lot of people play it, a few people are fans of it.

More people should be playing this game bruh, I don't understand how people didn't really know about it
I feel like the combo tree and the the game flows is underrated. I understand that games like tekken and street fighter have tons of inputs and techniques, but once you know those it becomes kinda shallow in a way. But in brawlhalla, the combo tree and number of options you’re presented with is almost unfathomable. It’s less about knowing how to do the combo and more about picking what combo should be done when to initiate a combo in order to apply pressure. In brawlhalla, every character is like melee fox. So much hidden potential locked away by miss inputs and tight input windows. Watch any advanced combo guide and you’ll understand how complicated it can get.
if you think that traditional fighters get shallow as you learn the complexities but hail this game as the king of depth with a billion combo routes, then you truly have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. and don't even bring melee fox into this lmfao melee fox is on another level entirely
Brawlhalla takes so much skill it hurts. To actually be able to do true combos and be able to read and all of that is beyond my level of understanding
The thing I love the most about the game is that it truly feel like the devs care. I know other games, they do, but it feels more grounded and personal in a way with brawl. If that makes sense. Super fun game, my favorite game atm. I started for the same reason Boomie did. My friend told me about it and I got obsessed with trying to beat him. And now, I wanna beat everyone else.

As an outsider to this game, I think the only thing keeping this game from being more popular is just that the character designs are waaaaay too cartoony (don't know how to spell it) cuz when I saw it on steam I was like: oof, I thought this was gonna look different (cause I heard it was a good game), and... why are they including the most hated ben 10 version?

I need to comment on this. I didn't think too much of Brawlhalla and was one of the thousands who tried the game for 30 minutes and then left it in the fridge. But as of recently I wanted to get back into SSBU (I know) but I realized that just can *not* be played online (I know - common knowledge) and decided to give Brawlhalla another chance. 3 hours later I bought the legends pack to support the devs. This actually works online and that alone makes was worthwhile showing some support to these guys. It's actually much better than I'd thought and will be spending some considerable time on this title ;)

The mechanics of lagless dodge and 2 double jumps means the time players can delay interaction between players far too long and ridiculous mobility means it becomes better to stack movement options hoping for your opponent will whiff (and therefore be in lag) and then punish. Instant lagless dodge in 8 different directions means that pressure in this game is laughable. Theres a reason its casual scene is huge but competitive is small.

I feel like Brawlhalla took the platform fighting formula just like how league of legends took the MOBA formula, they are derived from a successful game and made it super easy to learn but extremely hard to master.
