    I 100% agree with everything you said. 1) It IS the best smoker I've ever owned. 2) It IS a fuel hog. ..... If you're going to do a shoulder, you'll need 4 bags of lump charcoal just to be safe. 3) Wherever you set the temp, the Masterbuilt will stay within 2 degrees of that for hours! .... Great video, man! Enjoyed it.

    I love bbq’ing. Was thinking about jumping on the band wagon and getting a pellet grill. The cost was always an issue. My buddy told me about these. So I’ve been wanting one for over a year. Again I didn’t want to drop $700 + on a grill. Over a month ago I was at the local Walmart. They had two MB 1050’s on a pallet. They had been left out in the weather all winter. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the clearance sticker of $299. I bought the one and my buddy the other. Both were mint. Still in all the original packaging, just a weather beaten box. It cooks perfect. I love it.

    Thanks for the thorough review. I see you have a RecTec sitting next to it. I actually have that same old RecTec model and I am VERY close to pulling the trigger on the 1050. What are your feelings on the 1050 vs that model Rec Tec. With the Rec Tec, I can't get high temps like they advertise. Also, the smoke flavor just isn't the same as my old stick burner. This 1050 seems like the perfect solution where it's convenience of temp control and setting of a pellet with the flavor benefits of charcoal and wood.

    • @madmoosebbq6316
      @madmoosebbq6316  3 года назад

      If you look at my first review video I actually compare it to the rec tec !

    • @thetangierc
      @thetangierc 2 года назад

      Let me tell you, I've had the 1050 since soon after it first came out last spring. After many many cooks and various tactics using charcoal and wood, I cannot get the smoke flavor out of that unit that I can get on my vertical charcoal smoker - that being an older Broil King Vertical Charcoal Smoker. I really want a gravity fed vertical charcoal smoker that isn't in the price range of a Myron Mixon or Lonestar grillz. As much as I like how versatile the MB 1050 is, it comes down to flavor and unanimously every mouth that has eaten from both of my smokers prefer the Broil King by a landslide. The MB 1050 isn't even close and is often questionable if there's smoke. I don't always feel safe grilling on the MB 1050 and I tend to keep mine cleaned on the bottom after each cook. After talking to several folks who are experienced smokers it seems there is just something fundamentally different about the way a vertical works and imparts smoke flavor. Thanks for the review.

    agree with your review, I've had my 1050 for 6 months. Modding or changing the hopper grate to closer spaces changes fuel consumption SO much it's unbelievable. Well worth the investment of time or money on how you fix it. Personally, I just bought a new grate for it from someone. LOVE IT

    MAD MOOSE BBQ - Question: With the 1050 put together and if you wanted to take it somewhere would you be able to lay it on its back on a blanket in the bed of the Truck to haul or would you have to stand it up and strap it down > Didn't know if it would hurt anything laying on its back along with taking the grates out... ? Your thoughts would help - I am going to be buying one soon...

    I've been watching reviews on the 1050. I think I'm going to go ahead pull the trigger and buy it. I noticed a lot people have had issues with trip switches. As far the one on the main door that melted I already know how I'm going fix it. I will put a toggle switch on the outer heat guard around the charcoal chamber so I can turn the fan off when the lid is open to save fuel while the lid is open. I will probably do the same with the firebox door. Thank you for this review, it has convinced me to buy this charcoal grill.

    How often would you suggest cleaning it out. I steered away from the pellet smokers for the grease fires and the firepot getting blown out. Most of my smokes go overnight and having to worry of a fire is not very relaxing lol. Awesome Video. I grill more then i smoke, but do have shoulders, brisket, ribs etc on smoke rotation during the month. Would you suggest the smoker in that situation? My Masterbuilt Electric smoker has just about given up on me. I guess not sure on grill/smoker combo or separate smoker and grill.

      Oh yes absolutely! You can sear your steaks up to 700 degrees Fahrenheit. This is the future with the convenience of a pellet smoker and with the taste and smokiness of a chargrill. Best of both worlds. The only negative I can say, I wish it was a little more durable, metal wise. Regardless a great smoker!!!

I keep going back and forth looking and comparing the rec tec with other suppliers.I came across the masterbuilt, and while it looks compelling? ??? I have a weber 22" and can get some long cooks with it using the snake or banked methods. BUT the reason I am considering a pellet smoker is the convenience of not tending a fire all night. • @jamesk1619
      @jamesk1619 3 года назад

      I'm also looking at the MB1050.. just wanted to give my opinion on the long cook.. from what I understand the 1050 can go for about 8-9hrs unattended if you're smoking at 225F or below. I just did a brisket the other day on my offset. It ran over night at 205F for 9hrs and then I wrapped it, refilled the firebox, and cooked it at 260F for another 9hrs. I think 8-9hrs is the longest you'll need to go before you need to go to the next phase of any smoke. So this 1050 should be perfectly fine in that respect to run over night for 9hrs. And if you're like me, you'll be up a couple hours earlier to check on it anyway. :) I'm leaning away from a pellet smoker because I want the smoke flavor that the charcoal produces. Plus I can use this for searing steaks which a pellet smoker can't do.. the 1050 would replace my offset and my weber.

    • @madmoosebbq6316
      @madmoosebbq6316  3 года назад +1

      I haven't, but I think messing with it wouldn't be worth it at this point. I think lump just burns faster and there's not much I can do about that. The chute actually holds heat pretty well. The outside doesn't even get really hot.

Either way, I see awful lots of videos in 2021-22 documenting dented items straight out of the shipping box and other mishaps. Also, glue used to affix marketing materials to the smoker, especially inside the hood, is terrible and hard to get off without leaving residue or pulling off paint. Sure, some things might be user error but not the dents and glue. Also this thing is built to last maybe what, 6-7 years? But for other models whether it be CG 980 or pellets in this price range, I see similar complaints about dents and thickness of metal. So is the dent thing something to be worried about at all? I don't want to be returning stuff or on the phone or emails with manufacturer. Buying pre-assembled (so I an see dents) from store not an option for me as I don't have a truck. Thanks!

    Good video to help guys understand what it takes to use.
    The 1050 here was not hooking up to wifi and because of that my software stayed at level 1. I have a S10+ phone with Verizon and could not understand why I was not connecting and just gave up. One day when I gave it a try again I finally connected and software updated to level 2. Let me say I don't know if I see and difference between level 1 or 2. But being able to use the phone app is actually nice and I am sure you would think so if it was there.
    What I did that finally got it to connect was I shut off many of my bluetooth speakers and garage door openers and anything I could think of that was using Bluetooth and wifi. Once I did that I rebooted phone to clean it up as well as plugging the 1050 in at the same time. It then connected. Now this did take about an hour to get the house stuff quiet but once connected to grill I turned everything else back on and its been fine since. I had heard that a guy was having our problem and what he did was used his wife's Iphone after fighting with his Android and got it to connect straight off. I was holding back from asking for my wifes Iphone but was getting close to doing so. So disconnect and reboot wifi and everything to start clean and I think you will make it this time. Good luck

      @@madmoosebbq6316 👍 See, your way ahead of me. That fireboard thing, I just don't have it in me to look into what it would do for me over the basic system. I guess when mine breaks I'll find a reason 🙂

      @@GaryKettwig what i like about it is that you can add 6 probes to it and it will track and graph all your cooks and save it to the cloud. You can add notes and photos to the cooks as well on the app. Plus they are notoriously accurate.

      @@madmoosebbq6316 it's still me G ary. Now that's the first time I ever had that explained to me. I have not used the probe that came with MB. Instead I use the Meater and it has 4 probes. Rarely do I use that however. The instant read probe is all I rely on. If I were to cook say brisket I would use the meater and be able to track when the Stall happens so I can then decide when I want to wrap it.
      I think you have a great grasp of the fireboard that I have not seen one video on. ( really, I have not looked ) but in the videos I have seen this cloud stuff has completely been over looked or glazed over.
      You should do a video just about owning and using a fireboard and all the advantages with the technology perks that come with it. Depending on the tags you would use I think you would get a thousand and more views. But forget the views, it would be more giving back to the regular guys and a bit like me that just didn't understand. It came to me it would be like telling people that the pocket phone they have does more than just make phone calls. 👍
      Looking forward to seeing and learning why I would want to add notes and photos and such. When I cook I get notes and photos by posting the videos and then watching them later. So you see, I am making calls, but didn't know It could do more.

      @@MXP90DL thats a good idea, I will make a review using the fireboard and go over its features and why I think its a great tool to have. Give me about a week and I can do that! Subscribe and turn on notifications for my channel so you know when that video comes! I used to use meat stick and had nothing but connection issues.

      Haven't played with it yet but I like the griddle insert and they did make upgrades to the charcoal grate and lid switches which is definitely a plus. I've heard good things!
