- Gaming Pastime reviews Grand Theft Auto V for PC.
Developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto V was released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in September, 2013. The enhanced version was released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November, 2014, and PC in April, 2015. This latest entry in the Grand Theft Auto series consists of three protagonists rather than one and focuses on the pursuit of the almighty dollar. Taking place in Los Santos, San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto V is a massive game with a big focus on heists and includes some revamped mechanics.

“Heists....are scripted as fuck.” Just wait until you PC guys get to play Red Dead 2. Despite Rockstar greatly improving graphical fidelity, animations, interactivity with the world, physics, and all in the most gorgeous video game world ever, the mission designs are so restrictively linear, that its painful at times. There is literally zero room for improvisation. Attempt to flank a group of enemies? FAIL...you left the mission area. Discover a sweet secret poker game room and want to get inside to rob everyone? You can’t, not until the game will allow you to.
This is the most frustrating aspect of modern Rockstar games. They are open world, but only when not doing missions, and even then, if a given set piece is going to be used in a future mission/side-mission, the player cannot access it until the game decides that you can.
They need to really take a long hard look at this, because it feels extremely antiquated when compared to other games.
I loved Red Dead 2. I think its campaign is much stronger than GTA V. It is not without its faults though. Its the same complaints now for the better part of a decade, and one that Rockstar is eventually going to have to address, less people begin to tire of mid-2000’s hand holding mission designs.
Yeah, the scripting of missions in RDR2 is tiresome, I enjoy the open world and the insane detail in the environment to a far greater extent than I do the central story. Again, I think Rockstar garnered some stellar performances from some of the actors - Arthur in particular was phenomenal apart from the "crying" scene which I thought was very poorly handled.
These god damn GTA IV elitists are starting to look and sound very similar to Rick & Morty fans. My god, there is no GTA that is "objectively" the best. Every single one will hold nostalgic value for a group of people who grew up with it and be the least favorite of others. Face it, which one you like most really only depends personal tastes, which one gave you your first impression of the series and which protagonist(s) you can identify with the most. Now stop it with the freaking elitism everywhere.
Agreed. I love GTA and I enjoy each and every entry in the series, however I feel like people take things too far when voicing their opinions.
While Vice City and Vice City Stories are my personal favorites, I won't deny that later games made improvements both in terms of gameplay and storyline.
While I understand why people love IV so much, I'm personally not into the slow first act of the game, lack of customization, and slippery driving controls. Don't get me wrong, it's a solid and well-made game but I'm not gonna act like it's completely flawless.
I like GTA 4 but I'm not acting like it's a perfect game
I gotta confess, the first time i beat GTA V, it didn't impress me as much as IV did... But after multiple playthroughs, it has grown on me overtime, now i notice how it's way more detailed than it seemed at first!
Now i f*cking love it.
It lacks a lot of the details I love about 4 and adds a shite MP mode....It's a downgrade IMO I like the performances of the three protagonists, I think they're decent actors but I'm not that taken with the characters. The main storyline was a bit of a drag, far too repetitive and predictable.
@@Grandmastergav86 So gta 4 didn't have Follow A and eventually kill them, Follow A to B and then eventually kill them along with the rest or go to A and kill or destroy B throughout the whole game?
I think vice city handled money best. You buy properties and each have their own missions. In GTA V I didn't find a good use for money, except buying clothes, pimping my ride and buying some properties, but the missions are nothing to brag about.
Very ironic part of the story. Once you make the big bucks... The game is over. You get the big score payout. Use it to invest in the assassination missions stocks. Then... Nothing. I've just been driving around doing very underwhelming strangers n freaks missions and laughing when the game points out a petty theft or armored truck.
Don't forget about Vice City's Cherry Popper or Pole Position assets which were pretty terrible.
the missions are the best in the series and are all varied not just murder this murder that collect money.
Man, I envy you. I wish I could care about literally anything as much as you care about GTA. Thanks for letting me vicariously experience what it's like to really love something.
Well, at least you can enjoy this game for what it is. It's so stupid how people are on the bandwagon saying that _GTA V_ is the worst _GTA_ to date. Most of them blinded by nostalgia for _San Andreas_.
+Clayton Luce i love the entire series but none of them are perfect games. GTA V could have been better. There's a lot of missed opportunities in the SP. It also retains a major problem that was in IV, a serious lack of end game content.
What's your most favorite game in the series? Mine would be _Vice City_, with _Vice City Stories_ being a close second after playing it for the first time months ago.
Clayton Luce tough. VCS is very underrated. I'm usually torn between V and SA.
To be honest, I really don't see what the fuse is about _San Andreas_. Forgive me for saying it, but a lot of people praise the game for its story and characters when the story was just all over the place and the characters were more annoying than memorable. The gameplay imo is the only highlight of the game. If you liked the story and characters, that's fine. I won't insult you about it, but still I just can't grasp it.
+Clayton Luce I like the California setting. Las Vegas recreation. For it's time it was pretty ambitious in scale and scope. I loved the story, personally, even though I'm not much into the whole hood shit. I loved Mike Toreno, a.k.a James Woods' character. It introduced 4-person drive-bys, NPC recruitment, parachuting, burglary, swimming, vehicle handling was perfected imo for that trilogy, and in the end I felt like it was both a great action and adventure game. It had issues but so do the rest of the games. To each their own.
"needless to say the AI is improved over previous games" erm no offence but the gta5 physics and AI were downgraded from gta4.
@Manek Iridius Yeah, the driving did suck. However, the physics of shooting a person (and their reaction) or hitting someone with a car was more realistic. check this out ruclips.net/video/GWVtZJo-HqI/видео.html it gives better context towards what he was trying to say. Not saying you should agree, just that its worth seeing the argument. Regardless, Red Dead 2 is better anyways.
I personally disliked Trevor because I feel like he was very lazily written. I was really excited to learn more about his past and why he is the way he is but they barely talk about it. It felt even worse in GTA Online where at that point it felt like he was there to appeal to their younger audience, by basically saying "lolz Tevor is crazy xD". Anyway good review, I love your channel so far.
you hit the nail on the head here imo, Trevor just seems like he was written to be edgy and random for the sake of being edgy and random. He still had his standout moments, but he was the weakest of the three.
Yeah, I know people say he was meant to represent the chaos that some GTA players like to cause, but to me it just seemed like Rockstar was aware kids play their games so they made a character that they felt would appeal to kids while also being edgy so it would make those kids feel cool and adult.
His daddy wasn't nice to him
Well i personally think Franklin is even worse... He is just too bland and often feels like a cheap cj ripoff
How about you choose another character instead of Trevor lol
This game is kinda overrated. Still a good game but not 10/10.
The Vigilante missions are the same thing. They're just as boring and have always been boring.
@TommyTowGuns 123 What are you lashing out on him?
Definitely agree on the lack of action oriented side missions. Would have been nice to have some gang hideouts to raid or something.
I have watched this review 3 times now over the last couple of evenings, you & I have a very similar affection for the series as well as this last installment, it is refreshing to here your positive & passionate take on the game as well as the series! I'm fascinated with the built-in "editor mode" where you can create your own videos, I can't remember anyone else reviewing the game mentioning this dynamic, thank you as it looks quite fun & enticing.

Jesus fuck dude, thought I'd watch a review but 3 mins in and it's still "I'm the biggest fan, I got this, I bought that".
Yes. That's our style of introduction.
@@Gamingpastime64 it's fucking terrible
@@chiyo-chanthedestroyer598 why?
7:51-7:53 how do i get the max payne 3 shirt?
Buy it from one of the shops as Michael. Suburban, I think.
Just found packie from gta iv im happy
This game was soooo disapointing, no where near the passion project that IV was.
I used to have fun with GTA 5 after I bought it for my eighteenth birthday in 2013. I've completed the main story and completed most of the Stranger and Freaks side missions. I admit, I dabbled a bit into GTA Online, but stopped playing a long time ago and probably won't be going back. However, I did have some gripes with single portion. The story felt all over the place, there didn't seem to be a main thread tying the main plot and three characters together, there didn't seemed to be a main antagonist like Tenpenny in San Andreas, and by the time the end credits roll I was like, "Wait. That's it?"
8:16 There's still a lock-on mechanic, you just happen to prefer free-aim.
Lockon is missing with mouse/keyboard
@@samz8691 thankfully
@@HumanGrunt Not with how terrible the mouse is in GTA V.
The Sensistivity is way too low even when you turn it up to max.
GTA V is probably the most detailed game I have ever played followed by Red Dead 2. It's just amazing driving through the city and seeing the people, cars, and unique buildings. A lot of open world games these days seem to copy and paste buildings or environments. Hopefully GTA VI has more interior spaces.
I'm surprised I missed this review, you have assembled the finest & most detailed profile on this game I've seen, outstanding my friend! I have over 100 hours completing it on my 360 at launch & am about to re-play it again on my PS4 Pro, your review has me hyped big time!
I love this game! Even when you stab people with a knife there's a small thin cut and blood leaking out
I think Los Santos Rock Radio is one of the best stations in the series, the 80's songs on Non-Stop Pop were good to, that said the soundtracks have been getting worst since Vice City, IV's was a lot worst than V's though.
Most players hate Trevor? In what world are you in? lol he's the one every likes and the one everyone talked about before GTAO became a thing
It varies. I love him.

He just seemed like a pain in the ass most of the time as well as micheal. Franklin was the only one I actually liked. I get he's supposed to be like the player who's insane most of the time but I just can't with him.
He's obnoxious and has no redeeming qualities, he is edgy for the sake of being edgy.
@@youngknight5589 please. Michael is much better than Franklin
JAYASHREE CHOUDHURY ehhhh i dont agree but agree to disagree
You should check online, it would be great hearing you complain about the ridiculous grinding you MUST do if you play alone, the ridiculous AI from both civilians and cops, the bullet spongy high tier enemies and their one shot aim. If you can see past that you'll find everything you missed in SP included and extended in online.
I WILL NOT GET OVER him killing Johnny Klebitz in A Meth induced rage
That wasn't a meth induced rage. That was just normal Trevor.
The gunplay is boring, driving is super bad and flat, characters are unlikable, story is super bad, ingame physics were downgraded - the game was a super disappointment
If the mission would not be so fucking scripted this could be really a great game for me. But every single game from rockstar is treating you like a ding dong who cant play and when you turn left instead of right you get a mission failed. And thats why I never finish GTA V or RDR 2 and I am going to hate it where ever I go :)
I'm glad I'm not a person that gives even a seconds thought to 100% on these games. The padding isn't fun because it doesn't have to be, they can just drop 50 widgets anywhere to keep the type that have to get everything "happy". Ignore the parts that you don't enjoy if the game lets you. If not, ignore the game.
i loved this review . Easily the best one on youtube and very professionally done . Congrats !
It was a pleasant surprise that my cousin handed over this game to me for Christmas I was scared to think about my mom never letting me play it because she will always bitch about all the mature shit that is in the game I keep rolling my eyes and think to my self hey those are the things that give the series its charm and say to her it's just a video game 🎮
8:10
There is a lock-on mechanic still but you have to turn it on.
I have gta v on xbox360 and I still play it to this day
so my thoughts are they should go back to vice city for gta 6 but i do think there are more things to add and they should make the map a bit bigger bigger then ever made it before. also add more indoor locations and add more activivies to do. for gta 7 though i think they should combine all 5 cities into one big map.
You have a very vivid imagination. I would love all of that as well. I think a bigger and better Vice City is the most realistic expectation. I think having interiors for every building is a massive undertaking from a technical standpoint as is combining all 5 cities without compromising other aspects. At least at this point in time.
thats why i dont expect gta 7 to come out for at least another 10 years :) i do think gta 6 will be set in vice city and will be the biggest map ever and may have the most interiors to date maybe the most activies like i would say combinineing everything we have seen so far in the series would be ressonable at least in turns of activities to do. i could see it being done in 5 years from now as the new consoles would porbably be out by then and they would probably be able to handle a city the size maybe of gta 5 along with half it maybe or something who knows it could be be double the size of gta 5 since right now the size of gta 5 feels more like the standard of view game maps at this point rather then a milestone so going double the size seems logical and like i said with tech always improving i could see it being done. if done on the current gen i would imagine it would push it to the limits but then gta 5 pushed the last gen tech to its limits :)
One of the best video games ever made, and the most ambitious. Period.
Loved this game on 2013 release but now i honestly dont care for it.
GTA V is such an amazing game and one of the best games I ever played. I will never understand why a lot of people don’t like it.
I strongly believe the single player was gimped in favor of online. There's a lack of things to do compared to prior games. The stock market only really relates to the story and I wouldn't call that an "economy". And for a game so focused on money, there's few ways to make big money outside of story missions which cannot be farmed for money.
However, I think the gameplay is phenomenal and a significant improvement over past titles. The world is incredibly detailed as expected from Rockstar. And the heists are some of the best missions in the series. Although, I wish the heists gave more control to the player.
@@Gamingpastime64, what do you mean by not being as much to do as the previous games?
gta v had a very boring story. Gameplay was alright, even though it was kinda slow because of the animations. Overall i think gta v is kinda overrated
Pretty much
please follow about gta online dlc story review, thank you!
I read an article on GTA IV that gave reasons as to why you should play the game with the radar turned off, I tried it and instantly gunfights were way more interesting. Might try it with GTA V as well
Radio X from San Andreas is my all time favourite.
Don't you ever fucking say to get over Johnny.
Get over Johnny.
Gaming Pastime YOU JUST HATE GOOD CHARACTERS 😥😥😥
I like Johnny.
This was my first GTA and I absolutely loved it

There's usually a reward in GTA. Not really worth it in V, though.
GTA Vice County Next

No auto aim? Yes there is...
Great review but I partly disagree with the gta soundtrack going downhill because Vice City Stories has a fantastic soundtrack and is possibly better than the original.
I remember being at 4 out of 5 miles in that Epsilon pilgrimage side mission. I was so fucking close and a damn cougar snuck up and killed me.
How the fuck u don’t have 1mil subscribers this is by far the most professional and highly edited review of gta v I have ever watched
Does GTA5 support 4k on Xbox One X?
UnlimitedProduction1 No
Regarding Epsilon program. Isn't that the point? Spending a lot of money, absurd tasks. Its meant to be a scam
I liked GTA 4 better. GTA 5 seemed like hype to me even when it dropped. My friend sold me it for 30 bucks a week after it released.
your reviews are excellent, thank you sir
Non Stop Pop is the best Radio station. I think youre right in some points. But most of the things you said are just a opinion and lots of people think very different about the things you talked negativly about.
You should try getting a game called picdun on the DS somehow, it's very fun and has fun puzzles (except for the last boss). I don't know if this game is available anymore or not.
don't see why people need to "get over it" when it comes to Johnny if it was reversed you'd be pissy too... He was a better protagonist than Trevor and they unjustly shat on him.
So? The ODST rookie was an awesome character as well an he gets killed off in a book.
I fucking love gta 5 but I hope they have just one protagonist
I'm getting a GT 1030 soon so... Can't wait to play this😀
GTA 5 for me is worst GTA in history, switching characters is worst feature because it destroys immersion into character and I didn't cared for any of them because of it. Start of story was promising, but after intro mission it became just meh.... For me GTA 4 was best GTA ever, story was interesting, main character was memorable, missions and other small things makes better game.
Well in defense of the three characters, it was also a quick way to get you around the map.
Please go away
RockStar needs to update the singleplayer, online is a cluster fuck and the heists their do give you a near limitless amount of activities to do but their the same thing and in Los Santos theirs like 5 or more Fleeca bank branches that can be entered so I don't know why RockStar didn't add in the ability to at least rob them.
I hear that. It's a sad state of affairs.
The real highlight for me on GTA online was when I joined a racing game at the airport and it was hosted by some kid and he had his friends there and the kid was boasting about how he has the most expensive place and expensive car etc. well soon you hear this kids door burst open and his mother comes in screaming at him because she got her credit card bill and there where $700 worth of transactions for Rockstar's Shark Cards and turns out the kid stole his mom's credit card and bought sharkcards to buy all of his fancy stuff and his mom grabbed his mic and asked everyone what are these shark cards and another person told her that they where micro transactions and from what I made of it she ripped her kids console out of the wall because he disconnected immediately.
"I own this and that version, enhanced, special, mega, extra fucking edition." Meanwhile I spent my teen years pirating every game imaginable. The only one I did buy was a russian version of bf3 because it was cheaper and obviously you couldn't play online with the cracked version. And for anyone who dares to judge me for it, I didn't exactly have a source of income back in high school, nor could I just ask my parents to buy me everything. I would have literally spent at least 5 thousand dollars if I bought every single game and movie I ever pirated.
Well I wasn't a teen when this came out and I did have a job. But I was broke in high school as well. I didn't have a job until I was 17. I am a game collector and because I enjoy the series, I bought every single edition of GTA V.
Gaming Pastime Perfectly understandable, just be careful, money talks. The way to tell a game developer whether or not you are satisfied is with your wallet. This is exactly why I fear what gta online might have done to permanently damage the series.
As long as Rockstar continues to develop single player experiences, I'll be there day one. As flawed as the game is, I still enjoy it.
“I will not be covering GTA Online.” Because its a giant steaming pile of micro-transactions and a never ending series of disappointments.

GTA V is a masterpiece.
Yeah, i don't give a toss about LA
There is a hard-lock aim setting in the game
My biggest problem with GTA V's money is there's not a lot to spend it on in the end game.
Once you buy all the gun mods and personal vehicle upgrades, everything else is either cosmetic, useless, or disposable.
You can buy new cars, but once they're destroyed they're gone for good, no respawning or insurance like in GTA Online.
You can buy businesses, but they earn barely anything compared to the price of buying them and give such underwhelming rewards. Like giving you free car mods... but only as Franklin... in 1 garage miles away from his safe house. Or being able to wear whatever you want on the golf course.
I want to be able to buy safehouses that you can fast travel between, or at least use the businesses as safe houses. Make the businesses actually give you stuff like exclusive weapons, vehicles, store discounts. Maybe let you buy insurance for purchased vehicles so you can get them back for a small fee if you blow them up instead of having to buy a new one with no upgrades. Something that benefits gameplay beyond adding to 100% completion.
And heist side missions to earn money. Get a crew together and rob various banks throughout Los Santos. That's the dream, really.
Gaming Pastime If only Rockstar put the effort they put in online to the single player too.
Are you really complaining about not being that much to spend your money on? LMAO Exactly what previous GTA Games gave you the same amount of stuff to spend your money on than V did?

Fantastic video!
unrelated and quite pedantic, but it bothers me when people call magazines, clips. Magazines feed ammo into the guns chamber so it can be fired. Clips hold rounds so they can be quickly loaded into magazines. They are two entirely different things. I don't know if they picked clips instead of mags because it takes place in LA and the movies are why people started calling mags clips. Either that or they say clips just to trigger gunnuts like me. I mean there is no way the guy in charge of weapons didn't know the difference between the two.

They gutted the opportunities of a more expansive SP for Online. This marks a downturn for GTA I don't think the series will ever recover from. It's only going to get worse in future titles.
I love your reviews- this channel is definitely gonna be HUGE in a year
Any time I return to single player I notice 2 things: 1) animals 2) how much it sucks. So many boring missions. I mean sure, online has boring missions too. Most of them. But you don't have to do them. Also I kinda learned to love to play as my custom character, not to be forced into a character. You can still have great NPCs, look at Trevor or Lester in Online. You can still have great cutscenes and story.
From GTA6 I would wish the line between SP and MP erased. I want single custom character. I want character building as in online, with properties, cars, upgrades, everything. I want several stories which would consist of missions, which I can tackle solo or with at least one friend. And more RP elements. Like better and more emotes .. I can't even sit on most chairs, or lie on a beach. I would want to do anything which NPCs can do, as a bare minimum.
DrSid42 Not sure how busting into a building to take a nuclear weapon is boring. Maybe you have no sense of fun.
