I've just done an Amazon Echo in a retro device but this looks great.
The mix of modern and old school is messing with my eyes!

Yes, just looked at your video - a very nice Hitachi upgrade! Thanks for watching!

meters like that are flakey. i still have not figured out how to repair them. they use smd leds and a controller. i think the controllers go to crap over the years. it is under a black blob on the led board, one for each channel. this is not to be confused with the driver which is a different circuit. sansui and pioneer used them in the 80s. they suck.

This definitely has those black blobs on the LED board. I probably broke it messing with it.. Thanks for the comment!

For the VU meter, maybe use the 12V from the AC transformer ? Or if you want to use another boost, you could add a cap between the two legs of the output.

I tried using the 12 volts AC from the unused leg of the transformer and ran it through another booster, but when I tied the grounds together got a "hum" in the sound - capacitor would have been a good thing to try to eliminate that - thanks for the comment!

Somebody did this to a deck with a Type III setting, leave the rare ones alone! There's one at my local pawn shop that I'm too stingy to buy.

Yes, I agree and generally like to restore instead, but this one was $12 and already had parts taken off of it... Thanks for watching/commenting!
