French is a very curious language that sits in the fence of anglo and romance. I speak both english and spanish and french words sound either very similar to english or very similar to spanish.
It’s because the Normans conquered the country 9 and a half centuries ago. The government and the nobility spoke French over the next three centuries. The peasants, much of the bourgeoisie, and lesser clergy remained native English speakers, about three quarters of the pot
The lessons with Alexa is really inspiring. Most difficult part in learning of new language is to find motivation to work without teacher, to stay disciplined and stay focused, with Alexa everything is simple! Good job!

Just subbed, love you learning format, I'm french Canadian, grew up in a french/ english environment, but the trouble was my mom of french heritage but was brought up english wanted to speek englishin the house. We went to english school, and churase. The French I learned was with playing with my french friends, but is now losing because I live an all english place.again. Thank you, I will gain my roots back through your chanell .❤
A lot of these aren't too bad. I think some of them are easier than others as they are fairly similar to English and Spanish. But yes, like someone said, conjugating them is a whole, different story...
I like to use mnemonics and word association tricks to memorise words. E.g. 'donner' souns like 'donner kebab' - so think 'GIVE me a donner kebab'. And there you have it, an easily-memorised verb that you'll be able to actively recall. A couple more examples: ficher (to file) - think of a file being placed in a fish tank; Pedre (to lose/waste) - think of a pardre losing his wallet.

Its fascinating how similar English and French are but yet very different
French is a very curious language that sits in the fence of anglo and romance.
I speak both english and spanish and french words sound either very similar to english or very similar to spanish.
Also very common to spanish
It’s because the Normans conquered the country 9 and a half centuries ago. The government and the nobility spoke French over the next three centuries. The peasants, much of the bourgeoisie, and lesser clergy remained native English speakers, about three quarters of the pot
. . . Of the population. So English is the fence sitter. The roots and trunk are Anglo-Saxon. French provides much of the more sophisticated words.
Idk how english is similar to french. I speak both English and Spanish and French is like Spanish to me
The lessons with Alexa is really inspiring. Most difficult part in learning of new language is to find motivation to work without teacher, to stay disciplined and stay focused, with Alexa everything is simple! Good job!
