Your method sounds like gesture drawing, a technique where you map out the movement of a figure with rough lines, kinda like a stick figure, so that the finished product is dynamic rather than stiff. Usually the process is gesture first, blocking (essentially drawing the actual body parts as simple shapes) and then drawing the anatomical details last.
@@TSUNAMI_M4N its a joke that uses a magical thing called exaggeration to show my flabbergasted feeling due to my inexperience compared to his with the subject. The point of the comment is to talk about the Ocam's Razor of the situation to show his way is more advanced compared to how I and/or others would use a simpler and less "good" way of making our art. The joke uses this problem solving principle of Ocam's Razor to make a joke. I used exaggeration to show that his method looks more complicated to what others do.
Just started back drawing after over 10 years and your page has to be my all time favorite art tutorial page. Every time I see your shorts come up I run to grab my book and try for myself. Thank you for these.
ive always aced drawing effects and inanimate objects and i suck at drawing animals and people but the simplicity of the stickman combined with its detailed surroundings just looks really nice to me
I use stickmen then I do something similar to what you’re doing I just think it’s nice that I can draw a pose in less than a 5 seconds just to envision it
At the end of the day, artists still draw what they want. For me I find this ok and pretty useful. But for some who relies on stickman bases, they can either get offended or still find this tip helpful. The kinds of artists in the world is so vast.
Learn to draw completed "blank bodies" before going into the details. The level of completion is decided by how much of the characters total form you are going to show. FIGHT the urge to draw in details while still drawing the "blank body". Once you have mastered drawing your completed "blank bodies", to include you intended poses and view angles, you may find your drawing speed greatly increased. And because you are focused now on drawing your character details to the "blank body", those details will become much better. And as always : Practice. Practice. Practice.
Stick figures and what you just did is the same thing, they also can be combined so you can make things lined up better. Art is art, you can do it how you feel comfortable most
My old homeroom teacher said to my classmate that he is an artist but he literally drew stickmen and some houses in a so simple ways but I drew something more detailed but she always said that he is the artist of our class and she even praised him in front of other teachers.
Until today I've never been able to draw this type of sketch, I think it's better to use the one where you basically make a stickman with dots at the joints, and outline it and add one basic shape or another... maybe I'll try mixing the two types to see if I can get used to it .
Well when i was 9 i started drawing a comic butim not good making a human body but then a few years later after my drawing skills increase i ended up making the stickman a main character
I usually use stickmen to get a feel for the pose I'm drawing, and THEN I use the shapes, it's really helpful to have it visualized beforehand for me

YESS same
Drawing the shapes for 3 minutes just to realize that the pose is bad is such a bad feeling
I just use stickmen 😭😭😭
Me too
Same here.
Stickman is hella useful when you tryna drawing a character-in-motion.
"don't overcomplicate it" literally makes a full on photorealistic body.
Did you watch da mussel one. 👇
How is that realistic? It is just shwoign the basic parts of the body using shapes

@@Potpie_king yeah I know but the joke doesn't make sense because it is a simplified drawing that doesn't look realistic

I *mostly* draw cartoony stuff so I have a reason to draw stickmen as a base, but on the rare occasions I do draw realistic stuff, this is helpful
Same but this base does still help
@@Obistopmotions kinda, but it doesn’t really fit with my character things
His videos are an inspiration and motivates me to draw more

Man just really made me spend so much time to just make a drawing😭😭😭..
BRO stickmen are really good for determining flow of motion in the planning stage of a sketch
I use stick figures to figure out the pose and make the body more fluid and not super stiff
Yes, gestural figures. It’s good to get the gesture down first so that the end result isn’t lacking in movement
but people that are skilled with drawing stik mans
