So, what I got from this was her mother wanted her to be a woman of the night, but instead, she was a can-can dancer, using her tourettes-esque disorder to her advantage. Pretty sweet if ya ask me...besides ya know...the lung disease, divorce, and loss of her riches, dying penniless and surely chronically depressed. 😢
Well, the dancing wasn't that sweet... Keeping in mind that women's undergarments at the time were split at the bottom meaning that during the high kicks, patrons could see *everything* - not passing judgement, just trying to not glamorise the story
Actually Satine is based on the lady of the Camelias, written by Alexandre Dunas Jr., and is inspired by his late lover Marie Duplessis, who died of tuberculosis in the 1840s in Paris. Jane Avril did exist indeed though yes sadly, many of the dancers died very poor and sick
This video is a marked improvement over previous ones, thoufg the music volume is still too loud relative to the volume of your voice. Still, you are more audible and speaking clearly. Good subject matter (though Avril was not the inspiration for that character; rather Dumas' heroine was). Good job though.
Why do they draw her nostrils so prominent lol, she doesn't look like that in the photos. Is this some style thing for paintings during this century? 😂
I love your stories, but “notoriety” means fame gained by a bad deed or behavior. I assume you meant “fame” or “popularity”? She didn’t do anything wrong, did she?

It’s Alexandre Dumas fils. Not “Dunas Jr”
@Charlie Bale autocorrect obviously yes it is Dumas
I am a fan of Toulouse-Lautec's work and have wondered about this woman's background. The same for the man with the long red scarf.
Sounds like she suffered from Tollhouse-Tourette's clubhouse syndrome. Good thing we dont have to.
Old age isn't kind to most of us.
Old age isn't kind to any of us.
My dad always said "Old age is not for sissies". He died at 93 after a fabulous life. My mum is still with us, bright as a button, at 95.
I hope she was able to feel some peace, love and happiness while alive. I hope she is happy up in heaven ❤
I would love to see videos on dancers and actresses of the USA. Lola Montes, Lola Langtree, Helena Modjeska ...
Correction: Lilly Lantry
JoJo just landed this role on Broadway! 🎉❤
Jane Avril Lavigne

It's called Tarvid Dyscanisia.
Tardive Dyskinesia, but yeah.
The lady of the camelias was the inspiration
Interesting - thank you!
She looks like my old friend Mr McGreg, with an leg for an arm and an arm for a leg!
I'm listening to this wondering why this looks familiar. The drawing of her in the snake dress is siting in my client's office
The worst is safed for the end of life.
saved, my dear. Yes, it is. 😢
The original Lestrange
I don’t understand how to testify! Wtf is that? Why do they yell at us to take the electric chair? We didn’t do it!
Why do they draw her nostrils so prominent lol, she doesn't look like that in the photos. Is this some style thing for paintings during this century? 😂
Cuz noses are hard, man.
