If a neighbour dies within a level, they won't appear in the next level. So you'll have less people to rescue in the following levels, but if all neighbours die it's a game over.
+CommanderZx2 came here to say this. so thanks :)
+CommanderZx2 It pained me so much to see all those cupboards and trash cans go unopened
+TheAxio300 They miss so much by not doing that
+CommanderZx2 I think you can get one of your neighbors back once you reach certain score thresholds.
+MetalSmasherGaming Every time your score breaks a multiple of 40,000 points, you earn an "Extra Bonus Victim".
My sister and played the shit out of this game as kids. The best part is finding what weapons work best on certain monsters--like silverware for the werewolves, the fire extinguisher on the blobs, tomatoes on the aliens, soda cans for the killer dolls, on so on. There's also three different types on potions--the red one makes you into the beast, the blue one makes you a specter, and the mystery one can do either of those, give you life, make you run super fast, or take life away--it's random. I'm kinda sad you guys didn't fight Dr. Tongue in the castle level; he has a Frankenstein monster and everything!
Ally G
the mystery potion can also turn you into mr.Hyde. if you get too close to the other player or a victim, he'll charge at them and KILL THEM.
Wished I had someone too tackle this game while growing up LBVS. Btw, female gamers are simply the best ppl in the world 🙏💯💌
@@emirlara633 I can show you plenty of female gamers that are horrible people.
@@thealarm7057 no thanks, you can ride that experience on your own🤷🏻♂️😎
@@emirlara633 Those glasses should be pink, the shrug is ignorant already though, so good on you.
One of my favorite games as a child to play with my father back in the day. Good times.
same, i got it on the switch now ftw
FIFTY FIVE LEVELS????
That explain A LOT.
I gave up on lvl 29 when I was a kid... Wow...
This week we do a quick review of Zombies Ate My Neighbors! A great co-op game for the Super Nintendo! Also, Best of James & Mike Mondays Blu-Ray is now available!! ► amzn.to/1NOfDpi
+Cinemassacre And on the Genesis! Although that version is a mixed bag for most people.
Guys you should play "Monster madness" for the 360 coop fun and perfect for this month🎃
I wish you would do more Avgn vids, but do with what you can!
+Cinemassacre The same time i consider it a good game i consider it a shit game because the password leaves you with no weapon that is the same as giving you a big fuck you... never get passed the baby but never tryed it in coop...
+Cinemassacre Hey Mike. Who do you use as you Blu-Ray publisher?
The dolls in the mall level freaked me out so much. And then there was the giant baby. The giant ants. Man this game was so fucking sweet. One of my all time favorites.
+GABO MIAW
and again in the final level.
+Jon Alanoor I hated the effing chuckie dolls - they'd materialize right next to a neighbor that you had to save!
+Jon Alanoor kill those damn dolls with those 6 packs and the giant baby with pandora's boxes lol. And that spider...better save up those werewolf potions.
i will display my balls
+George Mcqueen present them
One of the best 16-bit games. Shame that unless you played it back then, no one really talks about it much. A quiet classic.
If it wasn’t so long. I’d have cut the level amount in half at least.
Wait...this game has 55 levels?! I never knew that! I made it a couple of levels after the baby and figured I was close to the end lol
+Luke James (Album Reviews) Haha! No, no way. I played into the... twenties? I don't remember. Some stage with giant snakes that I couldn't kill. It's pretty good. Each stage is different. Like in Bubble Bobble. :D
Nyah Senai 55 levels just seems insane. If anyone can beat this without a password they deserve a medal lol
+Luke James (Album Reviews) ME!! One time, after 13 years of dedication. I may or may not have cried tears of joy. I find level 36 to almost always be the deal breaker.
Evelyn Jones That's insane if you beat it all the way through. Gotta stockpile those items!
+Evelyn Jones Congrats. I'm 0 for the century with this game. There was a giant spider or a stage full of webs I could never get passed I think. I beat Bloodborne this year and never came close to beating Zombie's Ate My Neighbors, and that was when I played games the most.
Lucas Arts isn't technically defunct, but they don't develop games anymore, they're just a licensing company now. Probably because the name is still pretty prestigious in the gaming industry.
The name alone makes me feel and warm and fuzzy inside. Did they ever even make one bad game??
+fatmike01 every single Star Wars game?
+HandjesBreda Hey, the SNES Star Wars games are actually pretty good. They're not "great", but they're fun, challenging, and really capture the feel of Star Wars with their music and visuals (Empire is my favorite because I think it has the best variety). They also occasionally make creative use of the SNES's special graphical capabilities (Mode 7 all day). I won't speak on the PC stuff since my experience with those is quite limited.
+HandjesBreda What? Most Star Wars games were awesome, I can't think of many that wern't...
+HandjesBreda Although it's not in-house Lucas Arts, the Knights of the Old Republic series (not counting the online one) are actually some of the best computer RPGs ever made.
And in Europe, the chainsaw guys were replaced with hockey-masked lumberjacks. We were even deprived of the game's full title!
"For some reason people in England are not allowed to see chainsaw wielding maniacs... so they got crazed lumberjacks instead! I remember making that change, and being very confused by it. We had to change the names of the game levels so as to also not mention chainsaws. The company handling the sale of the game in Europe also wanted a simple name, so they changed it to _Zombies_ there."
-Mike Ebert, _ZAMN_ designer
Gays
11:47 "Punch the shit out of the baby" - HAHAHAHA
Man, I loved this game back in the day! I agree with Mike though - using the password and losing all your items as a result made it hard as hell! Also, just watching you guys play that chainsaw maze gives me anxiety. HATED that level!
Perfect game to play this month.
One of my all time favorites.
+Intimidation It's a ton of fun! I got a little bit further in my previous live stream from a few days ago! ruclips.net/video/QNfqYRojDHw/видео.html

+Cinemassacre Thanks for finally playing this
if only there was co-op online.
+Intimidation Same! I've been requesting this for over a year! Happy to finally see it.
+Intimidation lol I see your comments on every video
I love this game so much. So many great memories of me and my friend playing it all night long.
+Windy All Night Looooong all night, all night looonng.
+Aozora Eyes homura did nothing wrong
She loved way to much. That is all.
this was a awesome game of my youth. miss playing games like this..
+Aozora Eyes ALL NIGHT LONGGG! (all nighttt!)
I love this game so much. It brings back so much nostalgia. One of the best games on the Snes.
sure is, have sooo many memories of this game, got it on the switch now ftw.
is it just me or does anyone else think this would've made an amazing 90s cartoon show? Like a cross between eerie Indiana and mighty Max lol
Peace!!
That would be cool. ✌️ 🔥🎮🔥
Yes. Yes it would have made.
No he means the small town suburban setting and story-telling utilized in Eerie, Indiana mixed with the 90s cartoon style of Mighty Max. It isn't really like anything you named other than maybe Goosebumps.
@@Top10WizardReviews definitely more like mighty Max or the tales of the crypt cartoon or something
Live action or animated? It would be better animated but uncanny goodness in live action.
James: " _I got nothing but this dynamite._ "

Angriest video game newb >
"The baby moves really really fast tho, so you got to run after the baby as quick as possible, and just punch the shit out of the baby."
pandoras boxes ma boi.
I bet James regrets using the phrase "Many more Mondays, many more games" now. Every time Mike urges him to say it, he seems really embarrassed. XD
this game was slept on heavy. love this game
For real who the fuck slept on this lmao
Wandy Wexler Weslon more of a cult classic like they live, good and pretty well known but not exactly mainstream or known by a lot of people

this game had me shitting bricks
+Anime Balls Deep Chainsaw dude in particular!
***** yeah LOL i remember when i was like 7-8 playing this, the most sick thing about this game is that music was really good and fitting :D
Anime Balls Deep I agree, the soundtrack added to the overall feel. Definitely a cult classic type of game! It'd be cool if this was on PS4 on-line or something like that. I'd play!
I remember playing this game when i was real young and yeah, shitting bricks on the maze level with the chainsaw guys. The werewolf level was also intense. But yeah, I just searched this game to listen to the music and saw that there was a James & Mike mondays for it so i decided to watch
Oh yes and another one
I love that the werewolves are defeated with silverware. This game has a great balance between horror and humor.
didn't one of the bullies in back to the future wear 3d glasses?
yep.
"Beat it spook, this don't concern you!"
+chuckb11
Yes. I am surprised they didn't mention that.
+chuckb11 It was seen sort of as a cool thing to do,
it started back in the 50's where a lot of the juvenile delinquent greaser types
in leather jackets would wear them. It came back in the 80's within the punk scene
and sort of made a come back again around 2010, but with the new 3d glasses they make now
a lot of people were wearing them without the lenses.
Funny how trends through out history always come back within a decade or two.
man I would love a remake of this game today!
Josh Keller please no
An unofficial sequel was made. You can find it on ebay.
Left For Dead - Co-op, zombies, weapons, find exits
Hercs adventures on PS1 and Monster Madness on PS3
5 years later you got your wish
I was 9 when I got this game as a gift and it really scared me but I played it a lot, got to level 25 I think. Now that I look at it, I'm so happy I own such a gem. The references to all the horror B-movies has made this game become one of my all time favorites.
Now, THIS I can get behind. This is such an amazingly fun game, and me and my brother used to play it CONSTANTLY.
It actually is a problem if they kill your neighbors, because the neighbor count is the same between levels. Your total neighbor count is reduced for each one that dies. Losing all your neighbors is a game over.
I believe that the password also keeps the neighbor count.
The problem with letting neighbours die is that after a while you'll be down to only one neighbour per stage, and some of the later stages can be almost unbeatable because the monsters will kill the neightbour about 5 seconds in before you have a change to get to him/her.
I look for this game every time I go to a used game store, and I can NEVER find it. Must be no one wanted to give up their old copies.
Chishannicon I found mine on line
me and my cousin would always play goof troop, king of the monsters 2 and contra the alien wars on snes when we were little, good co-op games
+ChronicConnoisseur Goof Troop was amazing!
+ChronicConnoisseur I've heard of Contra and King of Monsters, but I didn't know Goof Troop was known for being a good co-op game. Maybe I'll check it out.
+Robert Jenkins It's amazing.
The blonde kid looks like the lego maniac
+Brandon Hardesty Zack, Zack! He's a Lego Maniac! Love those commercials! - Mike
i was more refering to the lego magazine maniac, he was based off of zack though i believe
+Cinemassacre ZACH, ZACH, HES A PSYCHOMANIAC.
+Brandon Hardesty The manual calls the two characters Zeke and Julie.
"You will play the game as one of two brave kids: Zeke or Julie. If you're playing the two player game, one player can pick each kid, but you can't have two Zekes or two Julies! If you don't like the names Zeke and Julie, you can call them by other names: Nick and Beth, Spike and Sarah, Pat and Pat, whatever. We won't tell you what to do, but we know their names are really Zeke and Julie."
👍
This was one of my all time favorite games back in the day. It was so great! Great Halloween themed game.
James is the only gamer, before playing a game: ''I want it 2 be bad!''
"Punch the shit out of the baby." - Mike 2015
I'd love for you to play Gunstar Heroes. One of my favourite co-op games!
+FieryReign lol, nailed it
***** Nah, they mostly feign saying nice things while at the same time throwing in the same worn out comparisons with titles that sometimes don't have anything to do with what they are reviewing.
doesn't justify them always bitching about Genesis, it gets old. As the other guy said, that's fine, everyone has their opinion but maybe just stop reviewing Genesis games, we already know what they're gonna say...
+Smokey McJoint sega are still around, hell they make games for nintendo consoles(mediocre games but still)
+TechnoBambino yes that game is good ive beaten it at least 5 times.
7:00 . I've been savin' your ass. OH, okay. LOL
me and my pal got to lvl 39 I think. The vampire shit thing. After the big spider. Great game, but after that run we did like 18 years ago I didn't want to play it again,
This is one of my favorite SNES games. You guys don't understand how excited I am for this!
Poor James,,, he spent all those years playing all those crapy games for us that he never had time to get into an epic classic like "Zombies Ate My Neighbors."
God bless you man.
I like this, you guys have lots of energy in this episode. Sometimes I watch a video and I feel like you guys are half bored but not in this episode. It's like you guys are genuinely having a much better time on this game and just enjoying the experience.
If I remember correctly, you guys can open those closets in those houses...? Open them from extra ammo and health.
If the zombies kill the humans, it gets harder. You start with like ten people to save or something? If one dies, there are 9 on the next level, and so on. If they all get killed, you lose.
+Arbor Day Thanks for explaining how that works.
You can get them restored, but I can't remember exactly how that system works. I haven't played this since I was a child. It might be points related, where it will restore one of the lost victims at the end of a level if you reach a certain score value or something.
WHY DIDN'T YOU OPEN ANY OF THE CUPBOARDS OMG
The main issue with 2 players in Gameube/Xbox/PS2 and older era games, is that most of the games are 4:3 which makes the screen very busy looking during 2 player simultaneous gameplay. 16x9 really did increase the amount you can see at any one time making such game modes vastly easier to play.
This is one of my favorite games of the Genesis/SNES generation. This one, Earthworm Jim, Tecmo Super Bowl 3, and NBA Jam. Great stuff
Earthworm Jim!
7:37 Dat laugh tho! xD
The chucky doll and big baby used to creep me out as a kid .
Counting the bonus levels yes there are 55 but without there are only 48 chapters but all in all a long great game
Played this game on the SNES back in the 90's at my babysitters house with her son countless times. Rented the game as well back in the day on SNES. I now own a complete copy on the Genesis. Very good game that deserves a release on the Nintendo E-Shop. I am going to play the game this month.
One of the best of that generation of gaming. Hours of fun guaranteed. RIP Lucasarts.
use to play with my father at like 6, we could never beat the baby, had dreams about it for years.
Late reply but it's best to use the arc on it
My favorite SNES co-op games: Super Mario Kart, Contra 3, Sunset Riders, Pocky & Rocky 1 and 2, Gokujyou Parodius, Turtles in Time, Final Fight 2, Brawl Brothers, Mystical Ninja, Secret of Mana, Seiken Densetsu 3.
One of my favs of all time as a kid...so underrated...and the music...can still hear it today in my head
You guys should revisit and complete!
9:52 is a derivative of a song from composer Hector Berlioz called V.Songe D'une Nuit Du Sabbat.
Me and my buddy spent the summer of 94' and 95' trying to beat this amazing game. We could not beat the final boss spiderlady thing. Well at least we thought that was the end.
this was one of my favorite games as a kid!! I actually still play it relatively often lol. so glad you guys played this.
"Now go and punch the baby." -Mike Matei, 2015
the shit out of*
TheCursedHikari it's bad enough when people just write shit from a video in a comment, but it's damned unforgivable when they get it wrong. you can literally replay any part as many times as you want, and you still can't get it right? That's pathetic.
There's actually 51 levels, counting the credits level and the 2 bonus levels.
+Shinesparker11 theres more than 2
"Just punch the shit out the baby."
That boxed SNES collection in the background at the beginning is KING!
"Punch the shit out of the baby" -Mike 2015
I had zombies ate my neighbors for genesis, it was one of my favorite games on the genesis. I beat it but it took me years. I beat it on the virtual consol on the wii
5:50 Did he just mention, "Baby"?
PTSD initiated.
I played this game so much growing up. It's a classic, I love it.
The neighbors do not respawn from level to level and if all neighbors die in a level it's instant game over. If there are 10 neighbors in a level and you let 5 die there will only be 5 in the next level and so on.
Hand to God, when I was in middle school I beat this game in 1 life. It was the only game I played for 2 weeks straight.
Used to play this all the time. Still have my copy. My friend and I got up to level 24 in 2 player mode, if I recall correctly. There was this one stage with a giant baby that was pretty cool.
Since they never mentioned, if the monster kill all the neighbors of a level, you lose, game over style. And in some of the latter levels, when there is only 1 neighbor to rescue, is REALLY hard
Secret of Mana is the best co-op game on SNES IMO
+Adrian Duran Secret of Mana rules! - Mike
+Adrian Duran
Found this to be more fun. :)
+Adrian Duran Seiken 3 is even better though!
Crille Kross unfortunately it never came to US
+Adrian Duran Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 2) is much better
one of my all time favorites
This title was a real gem, I'm very glad you guys covered it. Probably one of my most repeated rentals.
My mother and I used to play this game for hours and hours when I was younger!
I loved this game as a kid and could never beat it
+SarnXero can't remember if i ever got through the maze level. those fucking immortal chainsaw dudes scared the fuck out of me.
+Verinen Pihvi i experimented once with game genie and this game they can die they just take a crap ton of damage.
Fallenslayer1 i didn't know that. probably wouldn't be convenient to waste ammo on them though.
Crimson Blade i should probably play some old school games again now that i'm older. i feel i should give this game a try at least.
Well, you did it. In 1 months time you've reviewed 80 percent of the games I loved as a kid lol. Hell yeah Halloween moddoo fockoos
Another game i remember playing 24 years ago with my mom. We would always get stuck at the giant sandworm level. I used to LOVE this game & just seeing some of the levels and screens brought back feelings of excitement for the next level
I always remember getting to the giant baby and using all my ammo on it and then not having enough for the levels after!!. Just a shame the cart did have battery backup for saves
I'd love to see yous play Gain Ground on the Sega Genesis
Grenades ? He meant the soda cans, right ?
Also : Gamegenie code.
Before Silent Hill, before Resident Evil, there was Zombies Ate My Neighbors.
I played this game so much as a kid. Me and my friend played the co-op all the time, but we'd more often end up fighting each other over the weapons then fighting the monsters.
My wife and I played it recently this month. After not playing it in years it was still amazing as I remembered. My only gripe is switching weapons sometimes takes too long and the relentless difficulty. Even with these two downsides it's still an amazing game. If you have a SNES this game is a must have.
Nice :)
+WrecklessEating Does this mean you'll be eating your neighbors in the next main show? :P
Best Halloween present you could give me. Thank you guys.
"Basically punch the shit outta the baby." - Mike Mattei, 2015
Aw come on, this game should have been this year's AVGN halloween special
he said he tried it out for avgn but the games need to be horrible and this game didn't make the cut
spman shows take breaks in-between seasons. they said they were getting back to it soon
+spman I'm alright with that. It makes each new episode even more special.
***** they talked about auditioning this game for avgn in this video they just dont make whole videos explaning the upcoming plans for the series
+spman That sucks, when did he say that?
You finally got around to playing this game :D
I've been hankering to see a "James and Mike Monday" or even an AVGN episode covering "The Haunting" for Sega Genesis. Classic goodness where you play the poltergeist haunting people out of homes - very much so in the vein of "Zombies Ate My Neighbors". Great work guys, keep it up!
6:37 that beautiful whisper quiet "fuck".
Why am I up at 3 in the morning...
cuz yur a ghost spooking..
+Stoob Because you've lost control of your life.
Because you're trying to be Spoopy
The neighbors are very important for every neighbor you don't rescue and they die you start with less neighbors to save in the following levels say you start a level and there is only 1 neighbor you have to save if that neighbor dies its game over and the passwords start you at the levels with how many neighbors you have saved at that point so the goal is to save as many neighbors as you can in the easier levels preferably all of them because that will start you with more neighbors when using passwords this is easily one of the hardest games to beat.
+Ratix127 some people find it easier if you have less neighbors to save...just depends on what your strategy is to try to beat the game
+casey tyler It's less margin for error. I can see why you might prefer they get killed if you're speed running the game, but in general if you're a good enough player that you don't need a bunch of extra neighbors as a buffer, you probably could easily save them all if you wanted to and just choose not to. It's not really easier because you're going to be scouring the level for keys and weapons anyway, so going ever so slightly out of your way to pick up a nearby neighbor isn't going to add much to the difficulty.
Wrexit Knight i said some might find it easier..you can pick your spots when you want to go for items..if your just saving one neighbor and getting out you dont need nearly as much weapons because your not fighting as much enemies. but you also cant afford to lose a neighbor. theirs different ways to play the game which is partially why its a great game
***** even if your only saving one neighbor you can still collect items
***** i kinda think you should either save them all or just save one. saving them all gets you extra lives..i dont see a benefit of saving just some, and saving one makes the game much easier
This game has so many funny details, but my favorite is the one where you rescue the barbecue dude: you get more points for the burguers than for the guy himself.
Ahh, I recall playing this game and Clay Fighter often on the Genesis; besides Sonic, these were my two personal favorites.
u werent even searching the cupboards!!!!! unacceptable.
Really great spelling

Another thing; THIS GAME HAS FUCKING PERMADEATH.
Atomic Riolu
permadeath?
punchoutplayer penguin if your friend run out of lives there is no way to revive them
And survivors don’t respawn all survivors dies means auto game over
And also passwords are worthless since whatever pass you use you start without weapons
This is one of my favorite SNES games! I'm really happy to see you two playing that!
The level in the castle with that doctor, wolves, dracula, frankestein and the music? man this game is a classic, too bad nobody remake this in full HD with more levels and stuff
