    Some mask was clearly still wet, and is wiped away by the swab. If you prodded the mask after with a clean tweezer, it would still be wet on the top, deepest, part. (very different to the matt look you the mask has in your previous videos once cured by uv+heat)
    Sill, leave it under that UV light for double even triple that time and it’s still a quick way to cure. But it was definitely still wet on top after 6 seconds.

    • @NorthridgeFix
      @NorthridgeFix  2 года назад +7

      The thin layer on top will remain even if you expose it to UV light for ab hour. It has to be wiped. Hot air just helps with the evaporation and not curing.

    Very neat! The weight is due to the device relies on impulse use rather than continuous use. It dumps the heat from 10W power dissipation into the massive metal rather than into the air.

    Very handy to have on the workbench. However I must note, having used both the lamp and UV cure solder mask from your shop, that it takes significantly longer than 6 seconds on average to cure - I find myself cycling the lamp on/off five or six times before the solder mask has a considerably solid consistency.

    I still think the hot air + UV light technique is better, both times you brushed the mask with the Q tip, some of it wasn't solid, so the 6s is only for marketing. Probably it is 6s combined with the hot air.

      @@BlondieSL Ya know, those newer emitters last long - but 10,000 hours would still be 5 years of production at the job. What's additionally cool - is there are several types of UV adhesives available - but all firm up less than what I would deem as a hard coating. For 98% of most jobs - it's a quick and idiot proof fix.

      @@AP9311 INCORRECT. I just looked at the specs of several dental UV curing lamps and the highest power consumption among them was only 5W - half the power of the lamp in the video. Maybe actually research your "facts" before posting.

    • @kenabi
      @kenabi 2 года назад +1

      generally, as long as you don't point it towards your face or just sit there with it pointed at some part of your body or something, these small lights tend to be okay. the dentistry equipment tend to just scatter the harmful parts any which way and are less directed in general, from the units i've seen. so there's significantly more area exposed.
      the wand style some dentists will use is ridiculously more powerful than this little guy is. 5w base led, directed with lenses and a light pipe, at a higher spectrum (~430-480nm vs mid 300s to just below 400). with a radiation of "≥850mW/cm2" this little one is rocking maybe half a watt of actual output, and non-focused with very little radiation of uv vs the dentist stuff..
      if it were a large style on an arm or something and left up off the part a ways and powered by an ac power supply without usb in the mix, it'd be a concern. 10W of full blast uv of any type is.. no bueno. this may have a '10W LED', but they're usually wayyyyy underfed to prolong life and keep heat down.
      the habits he showed with it are probably fine for his use case.
