Soy sauce contains alcohol. The brand used, Kikkoman, public states that it contains greater than 2% abv. So when Rex thought he was tasting alcohol, he actually was.
I don't know when it happened but at some point you guys won me over from hatewatching to being endeared. I'm not a drinker, I have no idea why I'm here. I still don't trust you, but I do like you.
Briana winning that cocktail contest was an amazing example development and growth. She really found a niche talent between tasting, bartending, and performing on the channel. Roll all her clips!
As much as I hate sake, I feel like there would've been some potential in a cocktail with that. Either sake or mirin. Maybe something like a bloody mary, maybe some wasabi instead of horseradish, although part of me says that kind of feels like cheating. Also, I feel like after soy sauce, the next logical step-up from that is Worcestershire sauce, as long as we're rummaging through the pantry; maybe open some windows first, because there is fish in it.
Could've been interesting to use that second cut in a bloody mary, or even doing like a split base cocktail with a super peaty scotch like an ardbeg or octamore since they already have those funky cheese notes.
some baijiu is said to have the aroma of soy sauce. highly recommend you guys try out either Beijing brand or Red Star brand ErGuoTou baijiu (for budget) and Moutai for higher-end. Kinmen Kaoliang is good too.
Most soy sauce is around 5% ABV... Not sure about the specific ABV of Kikkoman. No surprise to get cheese and tomato notes in this... glutemate, which is a chemical component of MSG, is naturally present in tomatoes, seaweed, some cheeses, some mushrooms, and of course soy sauce.
Why does Rex in the start of the video sound like he's in fast forward. Had me checking if the video was somehow in 1.25-1.5 speed. Totally different cadence to the dry week announcement.
Tamari Sauce is a higher quality fermented Soy sauce. Seems Japanese Like the salty taste in Soy Sauce so ADD Wheat to the mix. If you buy Wheat free Soy ( like San J) or Tamara Sauce you will get much more complex flavors and less Salty.
Okay, I need help, the sound file they used for the "dance my puppet" image, I know it butt I don't remember what it's from, please help. Time stamp @7:15ish
@@johnwallace2319 it's fermented soy beans, wheat, and salt. They make both gluten free (no wheat) and low sodium (minimal salt). You asked "why not ferment soy", which is exactly what soy sauce is.
@@DH-xw6jp so read what I said and comment accordingly. Also, reading ingredients doesn't take into account the process. T'was a good weekend. Whiskey neat with good chop meat. Use code WHISKEY130 to get $130 off across your first 4 boxes of Good Chop at bit.ly/3SjeKLh
worcestershire next please.
not naming a cocktail the "ooh mommy" (Umami) is a missed opportunity
lawsuit.. LADY MAD
I played this video, and now my phone is covered in MSG and smells like wontons. Send help... or some chopsticks... maybe both?
😂😂😂👍
Have you tried putting your phone in rice?
Sending Uncle Roger… Fuuuyiooo, MSG.

How did no one on the team involved know that soy sauce has alcohol? 😂
I am here watching thinking "Traditional Soy Sauce is fermented, I would think these dorks would know that already."
Makes me question the professionalism of the Whiskey Tribe

I died at "Bigfoot's jockstrap" LMAO
Why did y’all speed up the intro bit lmao that was so weird
If you have your thumb on the screen on an iPad, sometimes it goes 2x speed.
Accidentally sped things up? 😆
im watching on laptop and it was def sped up lol really weird
@@LucidiaRising right?? Okay I thought I was losing it lol 😂 thank you for confirming!

that's potent stuff
Distill Ramen Broth or we riot!
1:13 1000% chance Rex practiced ahead of time 😂
He didn’t. Mentioned that he didn’t think it was that fast. If he practiced he would have known.
My wife and I have a phrase that sounds like what you're describing in #2.
Marinated camping snatch
That's the best kind! 😆
"Bigfoots jockstrap." Lmfao 🤣 🤣 🤣 I'm not so sure Bigfoot wears one sir.
If you are making a sweet and sour cocktail, you should also garnish with pineapple and cheap maraschino cherries
I lost it at "Big Foots Jock Strap" 🤣😂🤣😂
Digging the white infinity background on the promo segment!
I’m so committed to dry week… that I do it every day.
When I go to sleep.👍🥃
7:15 holy hell this was a crazy throwback to the Bad Lip Reading into sound clip!! Did anyone else catch that???
You jus gave me a flashback! I completely forgot about bad lip reading 😂
Soy sauce has alcohol in it, just a little.
It is malted wheat and soybeans with salt that has been fermented (traditionally for 2 years).
Roll the clip! 😂
I’m thinking about trying the fatten whiskey y’all did a while ago on an episode coming up. Will definitely give you all credit for it!
Video idea; testing Arnold's tequila cigar trick with different types of spirits/ with different whiskeys
With all the funk in this one, the no-brainer cocktail job for this seems like a spin on a bloody mary.
This lady's facial expressions are worth PLATINUM!!!! I almost taste what she's tasting through her facial expressions. 🤣🤣🤣
1:10 I called it, i was thinking the exact same approach. Mooches think alike
It's a variation on an old scam school episode! That's what came to my mind when he proposed the challenge.
I feel like the flavors described wouldn’t be entirely out of place in a riff on a Bloody Mary or some other aggressively savory cocktail.
Oye wake up new vid dropped 😮
you should put surstromming in vodka for a weak and distill it.

have you tried freeze distilling?
I'm here for Banana going in for the nose blow soy shot.
Once again ... thank you for what you do to your bodies
Can we start with a dry 30 min?
I'd like to know whats the model of mini distilling machine
TAKE THE CAP OFF!!!!!!
Could you distill Pickle Jin?
Should use the distillate to make stir fry.
oh yes! , this is peak youtube video crafting. *roll the clip*
You guys should go to a demolition ranch event. I'm sure they would love it.
Now that you have done soy sauce, yu need to try distilling other asian sauces, sweet and sour, hoisin, duck sauce, orange sauce...
what is that little still pot thingy?
Repeat this with their Tamari soy sauce. Both brewed different flavors!
Soy sauce actually have a little alcohol in it, fermentation byproduct
"You just gotta sniff it and you'll know." Words to live by.
Unless the cheese is coated with an inedible substance like wax or cloth, the rinds are totally safe to eat.

why does it sound like the video is sligtly fastforward?
Too much Crowded Barrel coffee for Rex?
its definitely sped up, you can see the liquid in the bottles doesnt move naturally, its super weird
Yah the frame rate video and audio were recorded separately and were out of sync. Speeding the video up 14% was the easiest fix.
Roll that beautiful whiskey footage.

Welcome to the Honeycomb Hideout!
So you didn’t have the courage to go full blown fish sauce?!
We need a hand-made peanut butter that is fermented, then a distilled spirit.
Peanut Butter Liqueur
Mine was one of the first comments that appeared on the screen. I stand by what I said. Bite me, magnificent bastards
Distill ketchup or barbeque sauce or different Buffalo Wild Wings sauces
I watched this video and now all of a sudden I am in a ghi with a blackbelt and have katanas all over my room.
Try adding a bit of msg to different whiskey and see how it affects the taste
I miss when they had someone guessing what they distilled
The tasting notes made me wonder about the dietary habits of Rex and Briana, how long do ya'll chew your food?
venturi affect
You can't remove the jug plug (cap)! That just removes all the fun!

Distill wasabi next
