- Steve Gadd is the most acclaimed drummer of the past quarter century.
From the early 1970s he forged a new era in studio craft with his phenomenal technique and emotionally intense playing. Whatever the music, be it jazz, pop, RnB or fusion, Gadd was simply the best.
Steve Gadd and his Gadd Gang performing live at Bern Jazz festival 1989.
Gadd used here Yamaha Recording 9000 drums with classic Ludwig 5X14 Supraphonic snare drum and Zildjian K cymbals. This is the classic STEVE GADD SOUND. - Видеоклипы
Playing the solo inside the rhythm is one sign you have made it to music Everest.
I grew up watching Steve perform with Tony Levin back in 1966 playing at the Other Side of the Tracks in Pittsford. I got to watch him every weekend for a year as I bussed tables.
Happened the year before he got drafted. I was an impressionable teenager who was enthralled with music & musicians. I even ended up the rep for Capitol in SF just 8 years later. Saw & met some incredible talented people. What a career this humble gentleman from Irondequoit has had. Kudos.
Gadd has intensity, precision and complete control while maintaining a groove. He's all drummers rolled up into one. (pardon the pun).
Don’t forget the leather pants!
Best grooves ever. There is no limit to the variation and funkiness of his playing. He’s a creative and technical genius
mmmm… not exactly. More like, there are a few specific unreasonable and ridiculous riffs he and only he can do, which he is able to make swing with irresistible funkiness, and he goes ever-deeper into that funkiness. There's a limit but he is the only one who's able to live there :)
Whoever thumbs down this needs to go do their homework! also the drumming community is a brotherhood, it's not about who's better... clearly if you do you homework you'll know why everyone honors and respects Steve Gadd!..
Can't believe no one has commented on your post and said ' so well said and true I can't have put it into better words then how you put it, I'm always posting gadd clips and trying to explain what you have said but like you say most drummers today don't get it , to them it's all about how fast and how cool you look, I feel sorry for the drummers of today.
ANYONE who would thumb down Steve Gadd, is jealous plain and simple. Especially this video!!!
I disagree with several of your points
He's definitely the best drummer in this video. One of the best in the world - part of a very exclusive club.
Gadd is the KING of feel.
With some discipline & talent it's not that hard to produce some loud, fast & impressive sounding noise on the drums but what Gadd and others of his caliber are doing is REAL ART...
Crazy technique 👌 👏 🔥 It is really hard to put into words just how good that was.
😲 He LIVES the drums! 💝
STEVE ;-) " mister GROOVE "...j♥♥♥♥♥
Dupree: Amazing comping
Brilliant feel and always loved his body expression - especially when he hits the bass drum
Gadd’s identity comes through in the first four 16th notes. Undoubted master.
Definitely another drummer from another planet he's alien fantastic
Best part of the groove and the camera moves behind him!!
Hit that camera man with some goddamn pocket sand!
@@taoistchainsaw5253 sheh-shaw!
That is insane what he's doing with a single pedal on his kick drum. 🤯🙌
Don't we all wish that we could play half as gòod as the most respected & best drummer on the planet. Thanks Mr Gadd.
Der beste Schlagzeuger der Welt.....was für ein Bullshit....
master of the groove
Usually all those thumbs down are from punk and metal young drummers.....
Love it! 👏
What a phenom...tasty and on point AF!
Solid!!!
Feel monster ...steve ..
the only drummer that can make his drums sound like they`re sneezing.
also the only drummer who holds the sticks like one would hold a guitar
That single snare crack at 1'22" - sublime
i've watched this solo so often that i knew which one you meant before even skipping to it!
Yes he is
Love his controlled sound fast but not really loud .
Gaddiment, rule🥁🔥👌
no steve gadd ...
steve god ..
best of great ..no1 ...
70’s = long hair cat.
Post 80’s = shaved cat.
Hair, clothes, funkiness. Everything trimmed off.
We evidently did not get enough of that 70’s funkiness.
Unbelievable how good this is
But it is also funny 😂
Crazy fills, bold as fuck.
There is no number 1 in music. Of course he is one of the all tıme greats
Steve God
👍👏👏👏👍❤️
Are those leather pants I spy???? STEVE!!!!!!!
Steve gadd is the only drummer I’ve ever seen play open left hand on the hats and still keep trad grip.
Nice Ludwig Supra! 😅
Serious Deep pockets
8 people meant to click "like" and messed up.
The Rrrreal thing right therrre
The Joe Cocker of drummers.

Is that Ronnie Cuber on Sax?
A drummers drummer.
It's the leather pants
tasty
um....
Baaadddd Ass
the thumbs down were from rappers, samplers, hiphoppers and electronic musicians,
this killed everything killable in a million mile radius then revived it and killed it again.
If you ask me what makes him great i'd say it's the bits he leaves out. But then I think that all squirrels are controlled by Mariah Carey so I could be wrong
Don't think so.
He’s Steven Kendall Gadd ...
and you’re not
As good as Gadd is, he’s still nowhere near Vinnie Colaiuta.
BS Gadd is every bit as good as Vinnie, just different styles
Yeeeeeeaaaaaaahhhhh....but Billy Cobham is still better.
Didn't this cat play some great shit on Stanley Clarke's LPs in the 70s?
That's subjective, I believe. Though they are both INCREDIBLY innovative & musical drummers, I personally will always enjoy LISTENING to Gadd a bit more (not taking ANYTHING away from how fantastic Billy is)
when a musician does the same thing repeatedly year after year it gets boring right? drumming is no different to me. not saying im better (before you say it). gadd makes same approach to all songs which takes away more than it gives. my admiration of Bonham was not for his technical skill but his ability to do something different in most songs. many top drummers sound different so clearly its not just execution of rudiments repeatedly. gadd has his fans and i respect that. i just thonk he's the Miriah Carey of drums. i cant listen to the same chops over and over in awe.
I heard SG live with very different bands: Chick Corea & Friends, Michel Petrucciani trio, Eric Clapton, Steve Gadd & Friends and Blicher-Hammer-Gadd-trio. SG played always wonderful, inspiring, groovy, sensitive, strong and in his earlier years with incredible virtuosity. His interaction with the band always was very impressive.
Artists like Eric Clapton, James Taylor or Chick Corea never would play with a drummer, who "gives more than he takes" as you wrote. When I listen to "Spain" by Al Jarreau I always think, nobody could play this as wonderful as SG.
Listening to a concert like this -

- I always think, this wonderful dialogue would not be possible with a different drummer.
@ Edgar Karam. I mean, you are "half right". Gadd is playing most of the time more or less the same bunch of beats. But not one Drummer on Earth plays it like he does. His beat, his feel and groove is absolutely unique. It does not matter what ore where or who he plays with you can physically feel his unique "Gaddgroove" (Gaddgroove. (!!) One word :-)))
Edit. Take this very early example... Within a few seconds it is clear who is sitting on the drums :-)
ruclips.net/video/yzFWSYFX4J8/видео.html
Yeah, the "Gaddgroove"! One word! You are absolutely right, Armin Sommer. And the whole band in your link is swinging so wonderful because of that. Perfect example. SG has this ability to bring out the best of the whole ensemble. This is the reason why so many musicians are longing for Steve's drumming.
He is the gaddillac under the drummers :-))) ....
Ok, there are better cars around, but they did not fit to the joke
I like this one. ;)
So predictable in groove and chop and so unenergetic always. Muzak man! The number one drummer in the world will always be the guy that made the most people try to move like chickens and the drummer that energizes the most nervous systems . That isn't this guy who's music still plays in mall elevators to calm people down. Truth hurts huh?
I guess you must not listen to music...for the music.
