Escaped a narcissist 11 months ago. I’m just now seeing the relationship as it was. Psychological and emotional abuse is insidious. The narcissist makes you doubt your reality of torment they inflict on you. You don’t know how it got so bad, when it started so well. I feel how she felt. The nine year old in me is petrified she’ll never feel safe again, and the woman I am today feels the same way. It's painful for both partners in a failed relationship where both have mutual feelings towards each other but just can't put the jigsaw puzzle pieces together 😔
Ten years. Graduated college, marriage, three children. And I still remember the first time I heard this song on the radio. I was driving and letting my radio "seek" and it stopped on a station playing this song. There was something about the melody that grabbed me, I paused the seeking function as I pulled into my college parking lot, and listened to the rest of the song. I didn't have time to wait for the announcer to say the name of the song or I'd be late for class, so I made a note of the lyrics to Google later. Age: Hi- Christina: Not today Seriously though, she sounds and looks AMAZING after all this time. What a queen. And what a song. Love her emotional growth too
Then (original): She's heartbroken, angry, and struggling. The emotions are pouring down... you can feel it. Today (10th Anniversary): She's happy because she realizes how far she's come since the breakup. You feel it again.. same lyrics.. different feelings. Cheers to another 10 years to this masterpiece! ❤️🔥
This song reflects the saying, "Up close life is a tragedy. Take a step back and it's a comedy." Initially it was full of pain and anger. Time really put in perspective how much it really mattered after all. Beautiful play of life.

This performance, in particular, shows how the song has changed meaning for you. It went from being performed from a place of pain, anger, and strength to a place of grace, gratitude, and joy. And that difference is spectacular. (This isn't to say that this performance is better or worse, it's just something I find fascinating.) I can't wait to see what you do next.

If you compare the original to this version, it really does reflect the normal journey of heartbreak in 10 years. From raw pain, to lightness when the pain finally subsides and the memories are all that's left.
Girl, this song means so much to me. Your voice is still so pointed like daggers. I love it very very much and all of your songs. My favorite performance of yours, is your today show live acoustic, 10+ years ago. Surrounded by hundreds of people, conveying that raw emotion beautifully. It’s stuck with me for over a decade. But this… is beyond so beautiful. Thank you for singing this again and sharing it.
You just see pure bliss and happiness in her reflecting on her journey and where this song has taken her. Though it seems less sad than the original, I like this. It makes me still feel so emotional. It was one of my favorite songs to listen to when walking to school haha.
holy shit. 10 years. couldn't tell ya how many times I replayed this song over and over again when I was a kid. was such a crucial part of my childhood. thank you
@Michaela Bartes no, it's because I got inspired towards singing because of her, I love her so much, I decided to use Perri for most of my things, specially for my music career, it just makes me feel so good.

You know you're over that heartbreak when you smiling thru the whole song about heartbreak. She is happy now. Good for her. But I do love the original one. This one is beautiful too.
That part in her song where she says " you don't get to get me back" is the reason why I said no when my 5 year ex tried ask me back 2 months after he dumped me.
Sarah Bacak It is because good songs are based on the pain, sorrow and sometimes happiness of real life. I dislike meaningless charts that don’t express anything 😑
Her voice has beautifully darkened and aged like fine wine, becoming richer. Enjoy the beauty of her fully developed voice while she's still in her prime folks.
Good morning Mrs. Angela Perri!! I think, You are the sisterr of Christina and I´ll say : Congrat´s from Germany! You can proud of Your sister, she´s amazing! Bernhard from Bavaria😘😘😘
It doesn't. Working on yourself heals you. If you spent 10 years avoiding the pain - you wont heal. But if you spend time going through the pain until it doesnt hurt anymore - you wil heal. However, I do think some wounds never heal... such as death of a loved one.
@@LL-wu5ui actually the only thing that works for me (now) is distraction. Distract yourself in order to not think that life has no sense - to not think about the one(s) you love and aren't there anymore.
@@cherrybeetree What is the solution then? I spent 4 months of my life crying in my bed, taking pills and the next 12 months writing every day about why it's hard and how hard it is, searching for answers, consulting, reading about psychology, and I'm here at the same point. I understand the "Feel the pain and live the pain to get through it", but I feel like you can't get through some. So the only solution I found is to ignore them and think to something else. It comes back at some periods of my life, but at least most of the time I'm living my life happily.
This song really hits deep if you've ever been a victim of narcissistic abuse. Those that haven't been through it can't possibly understand the hell we've been through.. But it's a blessing in the end and yet such a painful lesson.. 💔
Yes, been there and thankfully through it, the trauma bond was v v hard to break, but break it I did. This song really resonates. 1000% agree, unless you've been through the narc fire you have no idea how incredibly cruel, cold and wicked some people can be. Wouldnt let her break me, but she came close, I was almost on the very edge. Thankfully, out now and through the furnace, living life to the full😊 take care and wishing you well + positive energy
This version is so much more freeing, accepting, and a lot less bitter. The original is every bit as beautiful, but something about this is just mesmerizing.
the first time i ever heard this when it first came out i was sitting outside a friends house and a man in a large truck drove by blasting it really loud he pulled into his driveway and sang along to the whole thing until it was over, full blast, loud as he could sing. music is the universal language, your song is a lamentation for a generation.
I listened to this song when i was 19, crying over my ex. Now I’m 29, happily married with the love of my life. Feel so stupid i was crying back then 😂
Congrats on your marriage and happiness - but don't feel stupid over crying back then. You grew a lot then and that's something you should be proud of.
Just as Fairytale of New York is a classic this too is just perfect. This performance by Christina, as in the one 10 years ago, sums up the pain, the price, of falling in love with someone who doesn't deserve your love. It speaks of the arrogance of a narcissist who we've only recognised after it's too late! Never give your love unless you know, that they know, it's value.
God, she took care of her voice. The skill it takes to nail all of the notes in one take (in the original key, no less) is insane, not even to mention she’s doing it in full voice
“In the original key.” Lol the song is only a few years old; it’s not like she’s 70 performing a hit from the 80s. I’d expect her to sing in the original key. 😛 Her voice even sounds better than then.
@@msbgone Without a doubt it shot her into the limelight. She was essentially unknown when it was used the first time on SYTYCD. Two weeks later when she performed it live on the show (with an insanely beautiful dance by Allison and Neil), she was already charting, having sold 100,000 copies in two weeks. I can't believe that was over 10 years ago.
Wonderful. I always find that an artist whose voice sustains years of performing, matures and mellows like a good wine does. My grandkids led me to Christina and no regrets from me.
Honestly, this song speaks directly to me. I’ve been listening since 2013 and still haven’t stopped. Glad to see Christina and Paul are safe and sound❤️🧡💛
10 years ago I broke free from this girl singing this song. I listen now it pulls me right back in. Glad to see she made it 10 years later. Beautiful person, song and soul.
I sang this at a sexual assault domestic violence candle light vigil nine years ago. It told the story of the abuse and my own survival from a very very bad monster. Thank you for helping me in my healing.
She has never looked more beautiful. I've missed her, hope she plans on bringing us more of her sensational talent. She sounds better live than recorded. That's talent!

I learned to live, half alive. And there I aways heard, I learned to live, half a life. Makes more sense to me. But I supppose, she wrotes the song. She knows best :-)
I love this song even more now, instead of growing out of it. I am glad you made this too, shows you growing up with the rest of us. The different emotions in your voice here really change it and make it hit different. Your talent has also grown over the years. Very beautiful.
this song has been out of my mind for so damn long, and now that I've found it again, I can still sing all the lyrics from heart. That says enough what kind of impact this song had in it's time.
Same as you. When I listened to this 10 years back, I couldn't even understand English. But the melody remained in my mind...I can't believe... It's been 10 years! She's still the same!
10years ago when i'm 8 years old, its just a music to my ears and my parents still together. 10years later which is today, i'm 18, my parents divorce, and this is music to my heart. time passed so fast, i wish i could stop a while and fix whats broken.
In the 10 years it has existed, this song is the most emotional piece i ever heard, thus Christina Perrie is the queen of emotional songs. I still cry to her songs in Lovestrong.
Your voice is absolutely incredible. It just gives me chills. I lived through heart break when this song first came out. And now I listen to it, in love, settled, with a family. It still gives me chills. It still takes my breath away. I love this version as much as the original.
That is so wonderful to hear. Thank you for posting! I’m still struggling with heart break and it hurts so badly. The other person has moved on and gotten married but they are still the same wicked person they always were. I guess I’m doing well on my own but it still hurts.
A breathtaking , Timeless classic.. It stops anyone with soul in their tracks.. A truly powerful , transformative performance,!! While You feel and absorb the entire story , the subtlety and fragility of her delivery is deeply moving!! And after some tears , what I'm finally left with is Her Strenght and Resilience in overcoming an obviously deeply painful all to human experience..

This song is dedicated to myself over ten years ago “don’t come back for me. Don’t come back at all.” Growth is real y’all. Also, Christina sounds BETTER THAN EVER
It's so lovely to see that this song has matured along with us and you're clearly performing it from a different perspective, as a lot of us are now listening to it from a new perspective too. This song is wonderfully timeless.
Heartbreak wrapped in an angelic voice just the right time to sing all the frustration off your chest. . . . .from your buttom of your heart You`re are nor longer a heart in a jar Goosebumps everywhere.....
How is it possible that the same artist can make this song sound so very different? I absolutely loved the original, had no idea it was 10 years old, not least because it’s still in my top 20 favourite songs, and so was expecting a similar rendition for this video...... I love the background visuals from the original video, which shows the angst from its first time airing, but equally love the entirely changed emphasis of emotion for this rendition.
She seems to be a lot more at piece at this point in time compared to when this song first came out. When she first released it, there was so much more pain and angst and here we see a woman that is in a much better place. Well done, Christina!
The maturity this version holds is stunning. It’s like the original was the pain of heartbreak now it’s the acceptance and the happiness that follows a broken heart

I thought the same while I saw her smiling and sining at the same time.
Yessssss.
LYRICS :
I know I can't take one more step towards you
'Cause all that's waiting is regret
Don't you know I'm not your ghost anymore
You lost the love I loved the most
I learned to live half alive
Now you want me one more time
Who do you think you are?
Runnin' 'round leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
Tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
So don't come back for me
Who do you think you are?
I hear you're asking all around
If I am anywhere to be found
But I have grown too strong
To ever fall back in your arms
I've learned to live half alive
Now you want me one more time
Who do you think you are?
Runnin' 'round leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
Tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
So don't come back for me
Who do you think you are?
It took so long just to feel alright
Remember how to put back the light in my eyes
I wish I had missed the first time that we kissed
'Cause you broke all your promises
And now you're back
You don't get to get me back
Who do you think you are?
Runnin' 'round leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
Tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
So don't come back for me
Don't come back at all
Who do you think you are?
Runnin' 'round leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
Tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
Don't come back for me
Don't come back at all
Who do you think you are?
Who do you think you are?

Originally it's like she's talking to a guy that hurt her, but here, it's like she's talking to heartbreak, because she's so over it and happy now.
santos y maria teresa jar of hearts ruclips.net/video/2m983iFlULw/видео.html
If you compare the original to this version, it really does reflect the normal journey of heartbreak in 10 years. From raw pain, to lightness when the pain finally subsides and the memories are all that's left.
santos y maria teresa jar of hearts ruclips.net/video/2m983iFlULw/видео.html
Girl, this song means so much to me. Your voice is still so pointed like daggers. I love it very very much and all of your songs. My favorite performance of yours, is your today show live acoustic, 10+ years ago. Surrounded by hundreds of people, conveying that raw emotion beautifully. It’s stuck with me for over a decade. But this… is beyond so beautiful. Thank you for singing this again and sharing it.
It was the best .
After Christina got married and have a cute girl, now this version sounds a lot less sad than the original
Original: she's heartbroken and angry at him
This: she's happy because she realizes how far she's come since the breakup
jonald32z agreed. Quite a nice progression
You just see pure bliss and happiness in her reflecting on her journey and where this song has taken her. Though it seems less sad than the original, I like this. It makes me still feel so emotional. It was one of my favorite songs to listen to when walking to school haha.
Not everything has to be sad :)
Seems since that time, your grammar has not improved.
Just how she sings with that smile. I missed her

Her original version was hurt and anger. 10 years later it's liberating and acceptance. I think her heart is truly happy now.
The little clips of her music video show this, she knows the one who let her go was the one who lost out.

Maybe time really does heal all wounds.
But how much time...
@@Ilitan004 thats literally avoiding the problem and you will never get better that way
@@cherrybeetree What is the solution then?
Yes so true
Yes, been there and thankfully through it, the trauma bond was v v hard to break, but break it I did. This song really resonates. 1000% agree, unless you've been through the narc fire you have no idea how incredibly cruel, cold and wicked some people can be. Wouldnt let her break me, but she came close, I was almost on the very edge. Thankfully, out now and through the furnace, living life to the full😊 take care and wishing you well + positive energy
What’s the lesson?
@@sanarelTEPTC the lesson is to make and keep healthy boundaries. Love yourself enough to never look the other way when someone disrespects you..
This version is so much more freeing, accepting, and a lot less bitter. The original is every bit as beautiful, but something about this is just mesmerizing.

True
Just as Fairytale of New York is a classic this too is just perfect. This performance by Christina, as in the one 10 years ago, sums up the pain, the price, of falling in love with someone who doesn't deserve your love. It speaks of the arrogance of a narcissist who we've only recognised after it's too late! Never give your love unless you know, that they know, it's value.
every single note is perfect. how *does* she do it.
I’m better
Dope_Lunar chill rockstar
It’s not even that that amazes me. It’s the sweet power in her voice. It’s like magic
God, she took care of her voice. The skill it takes to nail all of the notes in one take (in the original key, no less) is insane, not even to mention she’s doing it in full voice
have you heard of mixing?
“In the original key.” Lol the song is only a few years old; it’s not like she’s 70 performing a hit from the 80s. I’d expect her to sing in the original key. 😛
Her voice even sounds better than then.
Her songs are not high pitched at all for an average woman's vocal range.

Yup. Disappointed there's not clip from the show in the video, as it was debuted on the show
@@msbgone Without a doubt it shot her into the limelight. She was essentially unknown when it was used the first time on SYTYCD. Two weeks later when she performed it live on the show (with an insanely beautiful dance by Allison and Neil), she was already charting, having sold 100,000 copies in two weeks. I can't believe that was over 10 years ago.
