This clip is revolutionary in that it exposes a well-evolved and highly refined hunting technique Servals have developed for hunting poisonous snakes by drawing a strike-response and hence exhausting the snake before it is prone to easily being picked off for food. It would be interesting to explore if Servals have evolved a high-threshold tolerance to venom as all successful hunters of poisonous snakes have inevitably developed. (like mongoose, meer-kats, etc.)
What a dangerous meal, yet the serval makes it look easy. One bite can just drop him. I feel like I can see the Puff Adder slowly losing its speed and coordination as the Serval continues to concuss its head. Amazing stuff
That is a great size advantage for the python. Of course a house cat or cat the size of this serval cannot kill a python, but a leopard or any larger cat certainly can, and there is proof on You Tube.
cryptosporidium01 Snakes are superior to cats at slithering, swimming, envenoming, constricting, and swallowing prey whole. The other comment was no more inaccurate than this one.
That snake is a common puff adder. Very common & is responsible for more human deaths in Africa than any other snake. Its also the fastest striking snake in the world. Shows how quick the cat is.
The speed of the death adder is unreal and a serval was able to time it which is even more impressive. Then it bites and holds it from top of its head.. savage
Actually, the Serval uses those heavy paws and strike down on the snake to disorient it and can even kill it just by hitting the head hard enough. They don't do much clawing it, because it's hard to be accurate on small prey that keeps moving and can strike very fast
Surely coz serval is a cat too..& look at how fast it reacted, which can be seen in most cats.. Their reflexes are lightning quick..that's why they're not afraid of poisonous snakes, coz they're quick enough to react.
Savannahs are different than domestic cats or feral cats. An F5 Savannah only has about 3% Serval blood. If one escaped and bred with a feral cat it's offspring would only be 1.5%. The next generation would be 0.75% and so on. BTW 90% of the prey a *full-blooded* Serval eats weighs 7 oz. (200 gm) or less.
@GunBroker100 adult cheetahs don't, but cheeath cubs do. their spots are so dense they look black and they have grey-ish white fur on their backs making them look like honey badgers.
Not a good idea, they're created to live in the wild. One could never imagine how miserable they are once they're displaced from their natural habitat.
@King Ghidorah i mean if youre offering, im always up for a hug. these are trying times that have everybody on edge and it's understandably been difficult to focus on positive things.
@christianjjj snakes, especially mutant ones breaders breed, can have unfuckingbelivable patterns and alot of them are quite cute not to mention beautifully patterned
@lastsaracen cheetah cats actualy have white hair on their backs and their spots are so condensed they look black in order to look like a honey badger :D but yeah, these are beautiful cubs, but you shouldn't have one as a pet, since that decreases their numbers in the wild because the mother serval is killed (i know, horrible) and a part of a new generation of the species is removed from the wild :/ if you love them, live them where they're ment to be, the wild! :)
Interesting to see, food for the cubs and in the meanwhile honing it's reflexes. Remember though, cats never hunt for sport or fun. If you see any feline killing some rodent or whatnot and leaves it, it's because of honing their skill. It is and always shall be functional.
Not sure he knows, but instinctively he'll try to avoid getting bitten. Strategy is the same either way. Serval will pound him on the head until the snake is dead or concussed enough to finish him off with a bite.
The cat has a pretty steep advantage in this one. No matter how powerful the venom is, the snake's only weapon is his fangs, so to attack he has to put his head and neck in harm's way. The cat can lead with his paw, which he can slash and withdraw fast. Plus it might not look like much but relative to the size of the snake, that cat's paw is like you or me getting clubbed with a parking meter.
@King Ghidorah how TF do you know what I care for. That's a very presumptuous of you. I happen to care for all animals, much more than I do people. Take that however you like
@lastsaracen *facepalms* Of course not! They're serval cubs! The one that killed the snake is their mother! Cheetahs are bigger and their ears are smaller and more round! Not trying to be rude but even an 11 year old would know that it isn't a cheetah!
The serval is a native wild cat in africa. The snake is it's food source. Why do you seem to think the snake is noble but serval is not? Predator and prey. Snake lost the battle of life to a mother serval so she can feed babies. This is nature. Wild cats kill for food.
Of all the different feline types, serval cats are among the most successful reptile hunters
Cats have fastest reflex in whole animal family... this makes them top predators....

That would probably make sense if snakes were “poisonous.” They are venomous not poisonous.
Lightening reflexes. Cats are highly evolved predators.
except for Cheetahs
they are way to inbred
@@cutman3931 That's because of humans and cheetahs are actually not too different from other cats, except for having blunt claws.
What a dangerous meal, yet the serval makes it look easy. One bite can just drop him. I feel like I can see the Puff Adder slowly losing its speed and coordination as the Serval continues to concuss its head. Amazing stuff
Videos like this prove that cats are superior to snakes in fighting, stamina, and intelligence.
That's why cats are good meals for pythons =P
That is a great size advantage for the python. Of course a house cat or cat the size of this serval cannot kill a python, but a leopard or any larger cat certainly can, and there is proof on You Tube.
I never said that servals were immune to snake venom.
No but you were saying bullshit.

i watched the movie "Drunken Master" and ended here. awesome video

Funny how that snake died from getting hit with a paw.
a paw full of claws
this is soooo funny i just had to fave it
what a brave serval!
it literally beat the shit out of that snake... vicious!
1:15 it somehow saw the strike was aimed at its arms so it just lifted them up like it was nothing and continued, it barely even moved its back legs
@CatsforAfrica Definitely in Africa, but most likely Southern Africa....I'd say Tanzania is a good bet!
The serval actually doesn't like poisonous snakes, because if it eats them then it gets sick.
Love to own one of those.nice kitty

Serval: 1, Poisonous Snake: 0.
serval loos funny when it is patting the snake "hmmm... cahhhh maaaaan.... cahhhhh maaaaaaan" xD
Damn that serval is quick as hell
Important question. How does the serval know that the snake is venomous so it is very very careful not to get bitten?
Not sure he knows, but instinctively he'll try to avoid getting bitten. Strategy is the same either way. Serval will pound him on the head until the snake is dead or concussed enough to finish him off with a bite.
He doesn't know, just has practiced with lots of snakes in his life.
Its sad to know that some cat may mis-calculate and get bit then die a painful death leaving kittens with no mother.
