Jeesh. This is hands down the greatest explanation of BJJ (aside from the God John Danaher obviously). This applies to more than BJJ and that's why this video is so amazing! I watch this channel and John Danaher for advice, amazing.

Digging all of your content, professor! I am an OLD wrestler, just started 2x/ week bjj at age 60! My body is younger than most of my peers, but it is still a huge challenge to keep the heart rate in the right spot doing live rolls with no gi. Did my first rolls in my new gi on Monday - that was better for me. Hope to visit you in Wyoming sometime soon, I have a son living in Ft. Collins but I live in Kansas now.

Just found this channel and love it! I’ve been a black belt for several years, and been in wrestling for near about 40 years. So I know a little bit about grappling, and this dude just did an excellent presentation on what it takes to succeed in any grappling art/sport! Side note: I used to live between Alcova and Casper. That is clearly Wyoming! Drove through Laramie about a million times!
loving your material... one of the most important things that I did to aid my ability to move under pressure, was breathing exercises.... the yogic breathing exercises that Rickson did, Pranayama I believe! before this, as a white belt I literally couldn't breath at times and felt, well, like I'm drawing, we all know the feeling.... through breathing exercises I was able to stay calmer, and lost the drowning feeling to an extent enough that I was able to start thinking about moving and move! Pramayana!!!!
Good confirmation! No such thing as an overweight BJJ black belt division champion! My biggest problem as a student for now. Otherwise, a whole lot of fun to learn jiujitsu!
The difference between having "acceptable" cardio and "great" cardio can't be understated. When you have great cardio, you'll have energy to find ways out of submissions that someone with a normal cardio level just wouldn't have the energy to defeat. Obviously technique above all, but having great cardio definitely adds a few lives!
This is exactly the video I was looking for. I'm unable to get to the gym at the moment and my lack of mobility has always been my biggest limitation. Particularly my hips and shoulders. I've done any number of mobility techniques for those issues but it has barely budged. Any recommendations?
That movement, In your 50s? Amazing. I'm setting here at 39 thinking holy crap 😳 🤪🤣🤣. Still a brand newbie right now. And feel wrecked for days after training. But I know it'll get better once I can stay consistent.
I love how you talk about being lean while eating pankcakes. lol Most of us do not have humming bird metabolisms. What it takes for some to get truly lean makes it almost not worth it. I have in my life managed to get my body fat down to 5.9% and yes, my cardio and movement were pretty good. I was also having to eat less than 1,000 calories per day, (almost all protein) and do 3-4 hours or training and cardio while working construction in the summer. No thanks. I'll keep my 25-30 pounds of fat and wrist lock a MF. LMAO

The strength to weight ratio confuses many people. Make absolutely no mistake in the pool of combat sports being 198lbs 10%BF will make you an absolute monster. Being lean when you weigh sub 160lbs is completely mediocre.
Ok what's everyone's opinion on this...sport bjj and self defense bjj...if your only taught to compete , then wouldn't that make you an incomplete belt holder
The key to being a great BJJ player is becoming efficient. You need to be physically efficient and technically efficient.

38 with open heart surgery 2 years ago is a real struggle rolling with heavier ppl.
