Great video, thanks for posting. I do this too at work, it lets us confirm antenna positions on crowded towers. I'm surprised at how much RF these things can tolerate, the only effect I've ever noticed was a some distortion (bars) in the video in front of a MW dish. Never a control issue..

This tower actually belongs a family friend of my mine. He owns a few radio stations and asked me if I could fly to the top just so he could see what it looked like. His family has had the radio station for the better part of a century but none of them had actually seen the top of the tower! Haha.
It was the first week I owned my first UAV when I made the flight. I was quite nervous! The owner actually turn the power/amplification all the way down on it to reduce any interference.

Per Wikipedia - whose data seems to track with site descriptions noted here: (100.7 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a country music format. Licensed to Carrollton, Missouri

Very impressive!! I hope the owner of this tower has an FCC license!

@Dacia Sandero guys It can operate unlicensed only if it is Part 15 compliant, meaning that it would only be legally allowed to broadcast with minimal power with a maximum range of about 100 feet.

So what happens if the antenna is powered and you fly that close to it?

Depends on the frequency. Smaller, unlicensed microwave operating in 2.4 GHz (for instance) will interfere with the drone and hopefully cause it to return to home. FM frequency should barely register BUT if strong enough will de-sense or overload the receiver and cause the same result.

The owner of the tower actually turned the power/amplification down all the way for the flight. He was there with me for the flight.

no barbed wire fence around it? why?

It sits on about 100 acres of private fenced off property and the road that leads to it is actually kinda hard to find if you don’t know where it is.

It definitely needed adjusted but this was 6 years ago on my very first UAV (Phantom 2) and it was like the 3rd flight I had ever made lol.
Didn’t really know a whole lot about all of the settings back then and I don’t do this professionally or for hire anyway. I was more concerned about not hitting those guide wires, (really hard to see on the old iPhone 4 in the sunlight) than I was producing 5 star professional videos lol.
