  • In this video we fix a mixer shower that's started running cold. Note, NOT a shower that's always run cold or is brand new but an older shower that's recently started running cold.
    The example is a Cruze concealed shower from Victorian plumbing.

    What an excellent no frills vid. Just what I needed to service my shower since my plumber cancelled. Thanks 😊

    Nice video. Worth a mention that the thermostatic cylinder can often be stuck / sticky in hard water areas. Test it by running the sensor cartridge under the tap. Plunger should move out 5mm or so smoothly. If not, pull the stainless steel plunger out and clean with vinegar or similar until it moves nicely.

      (under the hot / cold taps alternately)

      Would this type of mixer valve cause the cylinder to go cold once the oil heating is gone off ? Our cylinder goes cold really quick, we are in a hard water area,

      Any tips to get the stuck thermostatic cylinder out? I've given it a liberal spraying of limescale remover and left for a few hours but no luck as yet.

    Really good video, very helpful, thanks. Any experience repairing aqua Lisa cartridges?

      Sorry, never seen an aqua Lisa cart. The ones I have seen seem to be very similar to each other though so with a bit of luck.....

    Good man, thanks for the tutorial. Where do I source the o-rings if don’t know the manufacturer?

      I got a box full of different sized ones from eBay. One of them fitted.
      good luck

    Great video. One question, if my water was running hot , cold , hot, cold intermittently, is this what I’d have to do too?

    • @howtodostuffchannel
      @howtodostuffchannel  8 месяцев назад

      That's one Ive not seen before unfortunately. If it's always done it then it might be the water system. If its only just started then that points to the shower being the issue. Sorry I can't be more help than that. It might be the o ring but it might not.... Anyone else on here like to input?

    Thanks for this video. I have the same shower, but mine is either freezing cold or red hot. Could this be the same issue?

    • @howtodostuffchannel

      Its possible. It might be worth taking the cartridge out and inspecting the O rings. If they are intact then it may need a new cartridge. You can put it in hot water and see if it moves to see if its working.

    7:15. Excellent video. Until one comes across a cartridge that does NOT have a nut end and is circular!
    I'll see how I do.😂

      Worst case you can get a new cartridge. Good luck!

      @howtodostuffchannel same system as yours. No hex nut. Almost impossible to see the join line on the disc top. Worked a treat. Looks like the wax has pumped out. It's in the mechanism. So yes. New valve.
      Wouldn't have got there without your vid so thanks very much.

    Our concealed Victorian mixer has gradually started running cold. How do I know if hot water is coming from the boiler before I look at other reasons?

    • @howtodostuffchannel
      @howtodostuffchannel  5 месяцев назад

      First step feel the tank. Is it hot? Next are there any other taps/showers on the same circuit? Do they work?
      Next step depends on your particular shower. On mine you can turn off the water at the shower with some small shut off screws. Then you remove the cartridge and turn the water back on. You should be able to get the water flowing out from where the cartridge was into the bath/shower tray.
      Its more difficult if you don't have those shut off screws. You can turn off the water at the hot tank and the main cold feed, then remove the cart and switch the hot back on. Again water should flow out. I think the victorian style have a central tap. You have to remove the handle and the cover to gain access to a circlip that secures the cartridge in place.
      I would not recommend removing the cartridge with full mains pressure behind it. (that might turn it into a projectile).

    Hi, could you tell me the o ring size you used to replace the old one please

    • @howtodostuffchannel
      @howtodostuffchannel  Год назад +1

      Really sorry but I don't remember. I bought a box full of O rings from eBay with loads of different sizes for a couple of pounds. One of those fitted. OR you could go the website for the specific brand of shower you have and see if they stock the actual part.

    My only issue is, my shower only has one setting right now, either cold or hot. No in between. Would this fix it??

    • @howtodostuffchannel
      @howtodostuffchannel  5 месяцев назад

      It's possible (and O rings are cheap so worth a try). Otherwise it's possible that it's the actual cartridge. You can test by putting it in hot and cold water and see if it moves. Cartridges are not that expensive (although it depends on the type of shower (usually around £20-30 pounds UK)
