I absolutely love the random shade you're throwing at the execs and their obscene salaries in your recent reviews.
We surprised my 13 year old son with tickets to Haunted Mansion yesterday and he said "why are they releasing this in the middle of the summer?" . I'm guessing a lot of people are going to have that same thought, and choose to stream it this fall rather than see it in theaters - which is sad because we had a blast and the effects were excellent on the big screen
Yeah, it’s too bad. At least you and your son had a good time at the movies though.
Honestly that’s an interesting thought. It probably will release on disney+ around Halloween time
I heard it was because of The Marvels - Disney didn't want to compete with itself and are hoping more people show up for that.
Dan should make a chart on Halloween movies coming out in the summer
Same
Hocus Pocus is the one I always think of
Lots of horror does well in the summer.
👍 for calling out Disney in regards to the strikes.
talk to me was INSANE, probably one of the most ambitious mainstream horror films i’ve ever seen
Why is it a Mainstream movie? Because of A24?
Because an Australian Film with a 4,5 Millionen Dollar Budget doesn't scream Mainstream to me.
@@Samuel-p17 i meant mainstream just because it’s not a b-movie. maybe the wrong wording but i hope it catches on with the mainstream like smile did last year
The term "mainstream" doesn't really make sense to me to use anymore. Just feels outdated. Sure A24 is successful and can bring low budget movies to a wide audience but I still don't consider them "mainstream."
Perspective is key: Everything Everywhere All at Once made significantly less at the box office (but is a success due to it's low budget) compared to lets say... The Flash which is considered a flop (again due to it's budget.) It's "mainstream" appeal helped make it 268 million despite it's star's best efforts to turn people away while an Oscar winning picture with Oscar winning performances and is objectively a better movie made 129 million less. And EEAAO is A24's highest box office earner. I think A24 feels mainstream to movie fans because we see it all the time but to the general population, ya know, the mainstream one, they've maybe heard of Uncet Gems, The Whale, and EEAAO and "have been meaning to get around to them" but probably don't know they were all put out by the same company.
@@Samuel-p17it's a mainstream movie in content and style. There's nothing overly artistic in it at all, it's very accessible. This is not "The witch" or "It comes at night" at all, this is much more like a good ghost horror like "Insidious", just much much better.
Already went to see Talk To Me and loved it. Just further proof that there is so much great in cinema outside of Hollywood.
I really hope Talk To Me gets that word of mouth and have the Box Office legs, it's a great film made for the big screen!
I really appreciate what you're doing on the channel, probably top three film critics on RUclips for me. Thank you for all the hard work, research and heart you put into your videos :)
He's authentic isn't he. I second your comment. 👍😁
I am charmed by your kindness and presentation style- I like your videos a lot!
As of yesterday, I'm really rooting for "Haunted Mansion" to do well. I learned that the film's editor is from my home area, and I talked to his parents before they had a "friends and family" screening last night. They're so genuinely proud of him, it's hard not to be hopeful for the movie on their behalf.
Saw an advance screening of Talk to Me (with a hilarious q&a featuring the directors) and it was phenomenal. I wasn't expecting to it get that insane with some of the horror elements or get that depressing with some of that drama but it did go there and succeed. Congrats on RackaRacka for their big screen debut, I knew since Most Epic Nerf War in History! that they had it in them to make a great horror movie.
Talk to Me was actually really good, the themes that it explores really surprised me.
Talk to me is SO good! Highly recommend supporting it, especially since it's a directorial debut
I really enjoyed Haunted Mansion. A little scary and laugh out loud funny in places. Definitely fun. The product placements were distracting though. So many product placements…
Ok, loved unexpectedly Haunted Mansion. It was so funny! Also sweet and poignant. Great movie! LOVED Lakeith. Chase was so good too.
I’m seeing Talk to Me on Saturday with my friend who loves horror and I can’t wait. I am also rewatching Barbie for the second time on Sunday with my mom!
I love the constant digs at the AMPTA during the strikes. Keep it up Dan :)
Saw Oppenheimer in IMAX last weekend, saw Barbie tonight, and I got tickets for Talk to Me for tomorrow night. I’m really excited about seeing it. It looks very creepy and disturbing.
I love the one-liners against the CEOs and Execs since the strikes started. I say keep them in even after the strike is over
I think they missed out on potential Box office money putting this out now instead of September/October.
Also I think the success of Barbie/Oppenheimer and Mario show people will show up to Events. It being “new” and/or “challenging” matters little. We can even see that with Minions 2 where that was made into a dress up event last year.
Nah, they didn’t want to compete with franchise horror. The audience will find it and it will be a huge success (I’d be shocked if it makes under 20M, quadrupling it’s budget). Even more so than event movies (which have had some big misses recently), horror has had the most consistent success at the box office.
I'm here for your subtle jabs at the movie studio's greed.
My new favorite thing is “which studio will Dan call out, and how” 😂😂thanks Dan!❤
I love how you dropped the strike info in. Well done
I saw Haunted Mansion last night. It's a movie that exists. I had no reactions to it at all.
Did you loved it ??
Damn well how did it hold up to eddie Murphys one
Dan, I love that you always take the subject to the strike.
Talk to Me was so fucking good. The back half of July has been a SOLID month for movies. And it was great to see the theater crowded again.
Looking forward to your update on the coverage on the strikes!
Apparently tiny A24 can afford the writers and actors demand but Disney can’t- sure Bob, we totally believe you.
Loved Talk to Me! Gave me anxiety and loved the performances.
The reason it’s out now, first it’s a fun movie great for kids, 2nd, the DVD/streaming/digital release will be more likely around Halloween.
Took my cousin to see haunted mansion last night we both thought it was fun! It’s very enjoyable but not fantastic just a fun summer flick
The scene with the little brother being possessed is one of the more disturbing, hard to watch scenes I've seen in a while. My entire theater was screaming and turning their heads away from the screen. Just brutal but brilliant shit. Very solid modern horror flick
Which film????
I saw Talk To Me yesterday after reading a lot of hype for it for a while - it, surprisingly, lived up to it. Unsettling and actually scary. The violence in it is shocking, not played for laughs or gore. The plot is coherent and the characters are fleshed out enough for us to care, and their motivations make sense.
So much better than the recent dreck like The Boogeyman, Smile, Evil Dead Rise, Insidious 5. And no "metaphors for grief" in this movie, it's literally about grief but the monster is not an embodiment of it.
Just a terrific horror movie!
LOVED Talk To Me, going to see it again for round 2 today 🫱
Intend those puns, Dan. Intend them.
That Disney intro/diss is 👌
Your constant shade on Big Hollywood CEOs makes me happy.
I'm really loving the digs at Bob Iger. Keep em up through the strike!
A24, a studio that has provided audiences with interesting and unique stories that are budgeted conservatively and actually make a profit, has figured out how to work come to terms with the "unreasonable" demands of writers and actors. So it CAN be done. I can't do horror, but I really hope their movie does well this summer.
Saw Haunted Mansion and liked it. Lakeith Stanfield was an atypical and winning leading man whose performance anchored the film.
The movie premiered at Sundance and was bought by A24 around the same time.
I love how you’re not taking your foot off of Bob Iger and the other big studios neck on every video.
My prediction is that The Haunted Mansion will open outside the top 5 at the box office this weekend.
I got to see Talk to Me as a Regal "Mystery Movie" a couple weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised. I remember seeing the trailer and assumed it was a typical teen thriller with nothing to add. Fortunately, the movie kept surprising me about where it went next. Fully endorse. I will likely see Haunted Mansion this weekend just for some mindless fun.
I’m looking forward to watching both of these movies!
Watched Haunted Mansion today. My theater had some technical difficulties (aspect ratio issues, overzealous AC) which did I think affect my view of it, but the first third was very muddled and confusing, It picks up in the second act, but one person walked out before that. I liked it, but it made me miss Eddie Murphy.
I saw Haunted Mansion earlier this week. I agree the performance of LaKeith Steinfield was good, but the performance of Danny DeVito was not required. The movie also has an over abundance number of product placements in it, where it felt more like a Disney Channel movie with commercials.
Definitely planning to see Talk to Me.
Talk to Me is awesome. Has some of the most unsettling scares I’ve seen in a while, and maintains the tension throughout. Best of all is the character work around teenage angst, loss, temptation, and even addiction.
I'm not a traditional horror movie fan.
My family did see the OG Haunted Mansion movie and felt it was trying a bit too hard for a movie based on a theme park ride. My husband and I might go see the new version in theaters on the big screen with a fantastic sound system or we might just wait for it on Disney+ and watch it on our medium sized TV without a fancy sound system - Disney has taught us to wait for movies to play on streaming. ;)
I would love to see another streaming charts with Dan!
This "The Haunted Mansion" Is the 3rd iteration actually, as the Muppets did it as well.
Pirates, Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion,.... Space Mountain 🎥?
THANK YOU DAN
Haunted Mansion seems like an Autumn release. We'll wait & watch it then on D+. *Oh since I'm in the 1st 10 comments, shout out to M: I. 7, we just went to it, & there was just 3 other old couples in the whole theatre. Brilliant action movie. **Happy 1st Birthday to our cat today. Happy B-Day BorderMoon!
Happy 1st birthday, Bordermoon.

Why in the hell would DISNEY not release their family halloween film on idk. Halloween!? The oct 28th weekend would have been perfect for kids with their families and wearing costumes to theatre’s. Seriously Disney?
Please do a video comparing Haunted Mansion and Talk to Me!
Me and my girlfriend watched the movie and we thought it was very funny. Owen Wilson in my opinion was the funniest but the rest of the cast did a great job also.
Thanks for the review. Tomorrow I will watch this movie in the cinema. greetings from the Netherlands
Incredibly excited for Talk To Me!
Thanks for the reviews - not movies i like to watch but good to know about it
I don't know how I let it slip by me that 'Talk To Me' was made by the guys behind RackaRacka considering I both very much enjoy that channel and the guys behind it come from Australia which is my home country.
OH I LOVE THIS SHADE TO BOB EIGER/DISNEY.
Love the digs at the ceos! Keep telling it like it is.
Realising a movie about The Haunted Mansion in the summer is absolutely baffling to me. Seeing it tonight though!
I'm excited to see Talk To Me
Hey, what's nuts to think about the Hat Box Ghost, a maniah call otherworldly abomination from the world beyond that can sever his own head into a separate receptacle as he wants the guests throughout the entire ride... Is still less scary than real life Jared Leto.
Well put. Talk to me seems exciting, even more so with reviews and word of mouth.
I think this will get the encanto treatment meaning it will blow up on Disney plus.
Saw Talk to Me last night. Really good film. I enjoyed it.
Love the haunted mansion ride
This actually is the 3rd Haunted Mansion. In 2021 Disney released the Muppets Haunted Mansion on Disney+ which was pretty well received. This current movie was already in the works/in production at the time. I knew when this current movie was announced it had the potential of being a flop especially released in the summer. Should've either released it in October or maybe even just to Disney+. Having to go up against Barbie and Oppenheimer...OUCH! I like many love the theme park attraction and didnt care for the 2003 Eddie Murphy movie so I am actually looking forward to seeing this new movie but I also think like many who have Disney + will just wait for it to be released on there.
Wait Racka Racka made it to the big screen?? Im so proud pf them! I remember watching their videos years ago. Thats awesome. Might go out and see it.
Haunted Mansion though sounds like a hard skip. Not going out to a "just fine" movie lol
Hi Dan. I might see The Haunted Mansion to see the special effects, but I'm not sure. Talk to Me looks too scary for me, & if I had the chance to talk to my mother again,
I might take it, given that circumstance. It's almost the worst thing that can happen to someone: to lose Mom.
They should be releasing these films in the fall, not the summer.
Why didn't they just wait until October to release this? Instead of the weekend after Barbie and Oppenheimer.
Saw Talk to Me, enjoyed it and recommend it to my fellow A24 horror fans!
Hey Dan, totally unrelated but I just learnt that Disney and multiple other production companies are no longer going ro distribute physical media to Australia. I am Australian! And this sucks!
Could you look Into this and do a segment please?
No mention of the weird plugs for Yankee Candle, CVS?
I mean, product placement is gonna product placement.
Amazon, Burger King, Baskin Robbins. It was so distracting I missed parts of the movie!
Thus dumb thought just popped in my head. Did they really move Haunted Mansion up, knowing that by October it'll be available on Streaming, and turn it into a Halloween at home movie?
At this point, with so many big movies flopping in the box office, they probably did not have faith it will make a lot of money?
Now we need a review of the Blackening 😅
Why would the studios not saving these stories for October for Halloween season when the stories would be popular?
In support of racka racka I love seeing that Talk to Me is actually good!
Great comment about disney's ceo and comparing it to A24 who can still have movies in production even though they are an "indie" studio 😬 Hoping I can catch talk to me in theaters, But between that, barbenheimer, tmnt, and theater camp.. It's rough out heree
I saw Talk to Me stoked to see it, but idk I think I might be not in the demographic. Too much angsty zoomer phone scenes, but still a good movie, just not a hit for me personally.
Haunted mansion was like beetLejuice/ghostbusters 1984. Fun movie. Talk to me was fucking unbelievable
I agree with your score. It was pretty good, but not great. We liked it. It felt like old Disney without a bunch of activism forced into it. It just felt like it was too safe to the formula of a good movie and didn't get something. I don't know what it was missing but it felt like it was.
Haunted Mansion will more than likely be another Disney casualty at the box office. They smartly toned down the marketing to save money but their budget was still about $150+ million. More than likely it’ll need about $400 million or so to break even. I’ll be seeing Oppenheimer again this weekend, this time in 70mm IMAX.
Now shade Zaslaz. Isn't he highest paid exec??
You can start a new double feature meme: Talk to Haunt
It's hard to get past the strikes. The blatant greed on display by the studios is what is disturbing.
How scary or grotesque is Haunted Mansion? I have a 4 year old son that really likes spooky stuff and ghosts, and movies. Monster House is one of his favorites.
I’d say it’s about on par with that (at least as far as I can remember)
Why wasn’t released in Halloween ?
I'm seeing Talk to me today. Can't wait to see it. Haunted Mansion I saw yesterday and it was fine. I didn't love it.
Jared Leto didn't do it for just a paycheck but also for doing a new Tron movie
i don't know about the "put challenging films in the theater" and people will come thing. Remember last year when we had The Unberable Weight of Massive talnet and The Northman on the same day and they both tanked? It's sad, but I think the brand is still very important in the case of Barbie and Oppenheimer (the brand being Nolan for the latter).
We'll have a different outcome if they waited for a Halloween release, no question.
Why does no one bring up the muppet version
Talk To Me is great, it totally scared the pants off me. So dark and messed up.
“get possessed by a spirit challenge” 💀💀💀
