Depression is a pretty heterogeneous affair and those with the same diagnosis may experience very few overlapping symptoms. Your description of this flat, anhedonic/amotivational/apathetic state is the closest I've heard to my own experiences. The monotonous voice is a thing. In fact, vocal prosody can be used as a measure of depression severity. You were indeed cooked on this day.
Given the lack of motivation and energy, the best thing I can achieve in that state is find and do the easiest, smallest tasks possible. I don't know of any acute, non-pharmacological methods to alleviate this state.
The proximal cause for going into a state like this, at least in my case, is often not apparent. It can happen even under conditions in which I consider near optimal for lifestyle - i.e. the basics like sleep, exercise, socialization, work, diet. One thing that does associate with this state for me is immune status: it can happen just prior to onset of a viral infection or following a vaccination. However, in most cases there's no obvious cause.

That's good to know! Honestly, I haven't done as much research about depression as much as I'd like to. I've only read second-hand sources from Reddit and RUclips and chalked up these symptoms as another "depressive episode". From what I can see, they only last for a couple of days so it's manageable without medication for the most part. I'm still hoping to talk to a psychologist about this to maybe experiment with different forms of intervention and medication that won't completely fry my brain. I've heard of some horror stories about SSRI's and their inconvenient side-effects(mainly appetite, mood, and sleep disorders from what I can see), but I'm still open to see if they ultimately end out making my life easier than it is now since I've pretty much exhausted all other approaches. I haven't noticed a connection between the autoimmune system and depression, but maybe it has to do with the brain's ineffectiveness to communicate through the nervous system during a depressive episode? I think it releases cortisol to make the autoimmune system more active, but I cheated and used Google since my knowledge of how all of that works isn't that great. :D Interesting to see how it can be potentially effected my vaccinations and I can't recollect a time in which I had a "mood dip" during or around being vaccinated.
