Their Latin name is Lycoan Pictus...and Painted Dogs. Its wonderful that they are still found in the area after many years of decline and persecution.They are very vulnerable to disease from domesticated dogs.

Can we please rename these wonderful creatures and call them the African Painted dogs please. Their name hasn't done them any good.
They are called African Painted Dogs in Southern African countries
And the Latin name is Lycoan PICTUS...painted...they are a different genus than wolves,and dogs
