After scanning the comments section: "These folks need to chill! It's just a movie." I have not seen the first one but based on the reactions, it must have been a really great movie. It is better to think of them as two movies that share the same title, I guess. (English is not my native language, bear with me.) Now off to find the classic "The Witches" everyone is talking about! Woop! Edit: I have seen the classic version. It was fantastic! It was not scary for me though probably because I am already an adult but it was a delight watching it. I am still looking forward for the 2020 version. I think, it will be fun to watch not for the sake of comparing the two but to simply enjoy the movie itself. I hope all of you are safe during this trying times! Ciao! ☺️
i read roald dahls the BFG and couldn't put it down, not all authors can captivate like that, also i love this movie how it has incorporated adults, kids, animals, people of different colors, ,places, animation, fun, everything to blend in so seamlessly, cant wait to see it, seems like its going such an adventure 👍🙌🙌🙌
Everyone being like "It's not scary" Ever consider you're the problem with that, not the movie? After all, I've noticed a trend where people in general are harder to scare with fictional stories. Even the most grotesque horrors don't scare most people now. Plus, you're all likely adults and you were first introduced to this story as children. You've probably been exposed to it several times. Ever consider that maybe, it's just not as easy to scare you as it used to be?
This ^^^!!! It really has a cartonish feel specially of the grand witch, the older interpretation had a more dark style of the witch more scary and grotesque.

A. M. S probably a girl, to make it more inclusive or some shit. There is a graphic novel version of the book that has a girl instead of bruno, that might be where they gotnthe idea from.
You think it could be somebody from the original or maybe somebody they did test it on by accident but these witches don't care they would turn a girl into a cat 😋
The original one was a masterpiece and the performance of Anjelica Huston was truly amazing. Anne Hathaway is a terrific actress but I hope she is not trying to bite off more than she can chew.
@@eduardochavacano Don't bring Johnny depp into this. He is a great actor who simply likes to make children happy as well. Considering he has kids of his own he also wanted to make movies for his kids to enjoy watching. Yeah, it may not be everyone's cup of tea but that doesn't mean he's a terrible actor.
Not buying Anne... she just does not give off that dark glamorous look.. and the rat transformation looks like they put a purple smoke bomb that blew up the kid...
Anne seems like a softie that likes to smile. She would be better suited for a comedy, romance, or drama than being a villain and the novel wasn't a comedy either. Neither was the 1990 version.
Looks updated, ok. But growing up with the original makes this look like a cheap knockoff. CGI can't compare to the animatronics used, nor the makeup effects, nor the masterful performance of Anjelica Huston. Think I will preemptively pass.
The point is that this new version doesn’t add anything except CGI. Anne Hathaway is doing an imitation of Angelica Huston rather than her own interpretation. If you’re not doing your own interpretation then it stands to reason you can directly compare the two and say one is better than the other. I agree with the comment above, that this version’s Grand High Witch lacks the creepiness which made the first film so fascinating to watch.

Well what you call an “original” isnt even an original its adaptated from Ronald Dahl’s book so i dont think there is a competition ffs

@@iamnotfitforadventure8108 I get why... It's Chris Rock narrating over his childhood in the late 1970s. I guess what I meant was it feels like they did that on purpose.
Levi Blevins 🙂

Lady gaga would have been perfect for the part, she has that elegance and wickedness.
Watch AHS her season then. She already did a Vamire Queen.
YES!!!!!!
okay, now i'm mad
@juju bone gurl seek help
Yep, she was terrifying on American Horror Story but also stunning like malificent
Isn't Anne Hathaway too beautiful to play this character? She's too angelic looking
Isn’t it just a mask? I mean “beautiful” on the outside and on the inside the true “ugliness” comes out. So I think it’s fine. I mean she kinda funny, hope she won’t be annoying in the movie 😂
I agree but i think its kind of a cute change from her playing the good and beautiful witch in Alice in Wonderland idk

Come on. Let’s give Anne a break. She’s been playing the lovable good guy characters or the pitiable characters her whole career. I’m sure she’s bored of it by now. Let her have fun playing a few villains.
There is no replacing Rowan Atkinson and Angelica Huston.
🎀I agree.🎀
exactly
You're right! Angelica Huston is pure gold as the High Witch. Still,Anne Hathaway looks convincing.
it's not replacing when they are both based on the same thing lmao
Yeah idk why they picked Anna Hathaway for this role...seems very off.
God I just couldn’t imagine this movie without Mai Zetterling in one of her final roles. She was absolutely intense and real. The ending words between her and The Grand High Witch are epiiiiic. “No, no next time. THIS time, it’s YOUR TURN!” Got chills just remembering it.
I have so many questions. Why did they give her a Glasgow Smile like she's the Joker? Why aren't the witches scary?
have you not seen the original? i recommend it, are they are scary looking but they look good in the trailer bc it's like a disguise / human form
I'm gonna wait till the movie comes out because I recon they want to hide the reveal for the final thing
@@calumconkie8094 I hope so! The spookiness of the witches in the original was EVERYTHING.

하루indaeyo there’s a old movie from 1990 too! I recommend it it was uh a little scary but if second grade me could handle it I’m sure u could:)
I'm excited! Mostly to see Anne Hathaway play an evil witch! Been dying to see her play a badass villain! 😁 Grew up with and loved the 1990 movie so I'm super excited to see what this one will be like! I did hear this one will stay true to the book.
The Witches 90s movie TERRIFIED ME as a child and I still can't look at them without wincing! This really looks good and pretty exciting as well! I can't wait to see what the Witches look, I wonder (and hope) they're going full horror prosthetics NOT CGI.
By the looks of it, it seems they are going full CGI. It’s a shame because it always pulls me out of a story.
@@zaza588 I know, it does seem that way. CGI can be great when it's in the hands of the best artists. The mice look great but I really want the Witches too look as real as possible.
This is a REMAKE of the 1990 The Witches. Horrible, horrible, horrible. What's next a black Snow white?? An Afrocentric sleepy beauty?
Ms. จารุณี wo dude, we’re just talking about special effects here
I had freaking nightmares for years. Also read the book as prescribed work. Didnt help with the nightmares...
Is sad when a movie made in 2020 looks way worse (CGI and other things) than a movie made nearly 30 years ago
Not Cgi is the problems but the persons and the actors.
EXACTLY they need to stop remaking our childhoods. Angelica Huston was amazing. It’s just like come on pick another children’s book - hello! Do something original

Anne Hathaway is so perfect for this- she has the voice and can have the facial expression.
I would die for Octavia Spencer and Anne Hathaway

Can’t wait.
Nevermind. The CGI is giving me a headache, I can’t do this.
This is by far the best comment
Anne Hathaway has nothing on Angelica Houston, who was actually terrifying in that role.
They could have chose Charlize Theron or maybe sigourney Weaver she was the evil witch in that Snow White movie during that time year's ago 😎
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING
Non dire cazzate per favore... Anne Hathaway è bravissima in ogni caso... Basta!!! 😐
Of course not but I think she's still a brilliant actress
I really don't think we saw enough of her tbh.
Ciao! ☺️

Everyone being like "It's not scary"
Ever consider you're the problem with that, not the movie? After all, I've noticed a trend where people in general are harder to scare with fictional stories. Even the most grotesque horrors don't scare most people now. Plus, you're all likely adults and you were first introduced to this story as children. You've probably been exposed to it several times.
Ever consider that maybe, it's just not as easy to scare you as it used to be?
Or perhaps they were just kids when they saw the 90’s one so it had a greater effect on them.
Sorry, not me. I watch Asian horror movies, and i watch between my fingers.
LordofFullmetal, you are right.
We still have to wait for the skin pulling scene

Just Anna Hathaway for this is already straight on point. I never imagined to see her in these type of films
I loved the Roald Dahl book when I was a kid
Interesting but i like the old movie better... This looks too catoon-ish... The old one had bit of serious creepy moments.
This ^^^!!! It really has a cartonish feel specially of the grand witch, the older interpretation had a more dark style of the witch more scary and grotesque.
I agree. Love the cast but looks cheap
Of course the original will always be better but I’m looking forward to seeing this and a new twist on it. I agree tho, the original was definitely creepy and I don’t get that vibe from this one. Especially the little girl in the painting. Sooo creepy!

if you want practical effects watch the original version, its 2020 now just so you know x
@@anhedonia10 2020 doesn't have to mean cutting corners all the time, practical effects still have a place and are still a better option in some cases.
Well there are some bold casting choices being made here, considering the fact the original is set in Britain and Norway and that's were the boy and the grandmother are from originally. I'm sure the movie will be fantastic though, sometimes it's good to be bold.
I think it's a fresh take on the whole story. And Olivia Spencer as the grandmother is an amazing choice.
I was a little confused by that too, but I think it's a great having Spencer as the grandmother.
Due to the accents. I feel like the grandma and the boy are American. That’s why they say it’s re-imagined.
I don't think it matters where it's set, as long as the story remains true to the Real Dahl story :)
Welcome to the age of the sequel, prequel, and remake with a dash of rehash! 🙄

Well, they constantly remake things
Lol stop with the “back in my day” crap :P the first movie was great and all but it’s time for a new version for the next generation
