I've been brewing for about 14 years on and off, I do mostly all grain but still some kits and extract batches when time is tight...And I gotta say, even these older videos of yours are really well done, Craig. I recently did a few kits after not having used one in probabvly over 6 years...and some of the little details you mention do really make the difference , they really can make quite good beer if done properly...I've become a big fan of the hop tea in particular,
Many thanks I love my Guinness but after losing my job to I'll health I can no longer afford to buy beer . I have just ordered my brewing kit so looking forward to my first brew and a new hobby . Thanks for the video Craig
Thanks for the response craig. I have beeb a fan of yours for a few years now, but i just ordered my coopers startee kit yesterday. I have always been a little sceptical that i can make beer as good as proper established brewaries. I will soob find out when i make my first batch. Thank you for all the videos and showing me that it is possible. A big thank you all the way from northern ireland craig.
Nice video, thanks! I've just finished a batch of Coopers' Stout myself. After reading up on it, I came across some tips on how to improve the taste of the final product. In essence, just before bottling the stout, I brewed about a cup of ground Colombian coffee in 1/2 litre of water (in a french press) for 4 minutes, mixed it with the priming sugar and poured it into the bottling bucket (where the beer was awaiting to be siphoned into bottles). I sampled (tasted) the stout before and after adding the coffee to it and I must say that the coffee seemed to give it a more pronounced "roasted grain" taste, which is what coffee essentially is: roasted grain. Not too much extra taste, but just enough to tell. According to some guys on internet forums who have done this procedure a few times, it is highly recommended NOT TO brew the coffee for more than 4 minutes, as it will turn bitter and impact the stout's taste in a negative manner. Supposedly, adding properly brewed coffee also makes it acquire a superior taste as it ages in the bottle. Finally, some have also pointed out that it is not recommended to add the coffee at the primary fermentation, but only at bottling along with the priming sugar (perhaps because coffee doesn't ferment well?). That said, I can't wait until the secondary fermentation is complete in about 2 weeks to sample the final product! Cheers! :D
Another great video. My stout is 3 weeks in the bottle (I used the straight Coopers kit), and it is absolutely awesome--best beer I ever made. My son and his college buds just stopped by and scarfed about 10 of them. Next on the brewing list is the Coopers IPA, with 3 lbs of DME instead of sugar. I'm gonna need a second fermenter soon!!!
oh NICE! this is the kit that im going to make, just watched your "larger micro brew video" and loved it, going to watch this many times thanks for sharing your wisdom.
hi craig, you've helped a lot of people including myself to start making beer. im 18 from the UK and have just started my first batch of coopers stout and hopefully not my last!, tom
Thanks for posting your many video's. They have been instrumental in getting my beer brew going. I live out in North Western BC after spending my teen years in Gloucester/Ottawa Ontario. Many nights of Labatts blue and Molsen X back in those days.
You have the best brewing videos on youtube. I've watched all your brewing videos at least 3 times each. I also watched some of your other interesting videos. Great stuff! I can't get enough, keep 'em comin'. I'm a beginner and I've been brewing 5 gallons of Belgian phat tyre ale for the past month. Almost time for bottling. I hope my first batch goes well.
First off.. Big thank you for your videos. You really help me getting started with brewing and avoiding lots of mistakes (I hope). Done one batch now.. Just waiting for my hydrometer to arrive and I can start mixing the "strangest" things together. Beer is expensive here in Norway as well, but my main reason is the pride of learning how to make great beer myself. I don't really understand how that nice drum solo at the end was a blooper though...
Excellent video Craig. I am reviewing all you brew vids while working down here in Luanda Angola. When I get home I'll be making my first batch with my new Christmas kit. I'm learning alot bud, thanks! Bill, Lobster Bay, Nova Scotia
hello Craig, some good vids you make here, bought my coopers start set today, and my first home-brew is fermenting as I write this :-) now its a long wait, but worth it (I hope...)
great vid Craig yet again. I recently brewed a Cooper brewmaster IPA using just sugar. It's good but I will use more malt than sugar next time. I'm going to do a stout soon so can't wait to see how this one tasted to you. Keep up the great vids
Love the vids Craig fantastic stuff for starting to get into home brewing. Hoping to get into it myself soon just need to get to my nearest supply shop in Ireland and price my materials. Hopefully I'll do your knowledge justice and brew up a winner. Keep it up mate I'll keep following you.
bought the half malt half dextrose bag and the coopers stout today. the kit came with lager but when that's fermented i will stout. The only reason i bought the kit was so i could stout.my first ever home brew was with the kit this week with lager.other wise i would of had to buy the stock pot the can the bottles hops grains but with this video i can just add it staight to the fermenter. never thought it possible and that easy.
Hi Greg! Great video! Truly enjoyed it. We use similar homebrewing methods, wish i could have one of those huge sinks like the one you have in your basement, sure would make stuff a little easier for me. Keep on Brewing! :)
@bundyae85 I'm in Australia, and have been brewing with the basic Coopers Stout kit for nearly 20 years. While I've played around with all sorts of sugars etc, the basic kit gives a more than adequate stout. Adding honey, malts & other fancies does make a more flavoursome beer, it all adds to the cost. As for Craig sanitising his filling hose & everything else- he would need to sanitise his pipes etc if it were that critical- it's not
Hi Graig. Excellent video yet again! When are you going to make a beer with something slightly different again, such as your honey beer? You can use spices, fruits and other malts even. I think people would like to see something different. Spray malt is a good one to add, and I add it to just about every beer I make. Liquid malts are great as well! Take care.
hey craig. just by luck iv recently bought the same stout! about a week ago i bottled a "yorkshire bitter" which i just sneaked an early taste of. it has turned out great. it seems that the best brew i have ever made is a "EDME superbrew IPA" which was amazing! cant wait for the taste test on this one - you will be able to compare it to the one you didnt do with the dry malt extract. keep up the good work ;) - Lewis M, Scotland
For what it's worth... I put a big pot of water on the stove and add the ingredients into it. The beauty of this is you can add heat as necessary to melt everything being careful not to burn the mix. Then with a lid on the pot/wort I allow the brew to cool before pouring it in a plastic fermenter. The reason I do that is I think hot water will be hard on plastic pails.
Firstly, you don't need to boil the wort with coopers beer kits. You can partially boil a portion of the wort when doing flavour and aroma hop additions (this is optional). For coopers kits, you only needed to dissolve the kit and malt extract or sugar with a couple of litres of hot water and top up to the appropriate level with cold water.
@CraigTube Hi Craig, I preboiled these in a hop tea before Hand and my Irish stout turned out lovely. I am going to brew a cherry wheat beer now. I have some heritage lager kit with wheat beer yeast and hallertau hop tea sitting in my fermenter. when would you add the cherries?? I was thinking of freezing 3Ib of them, allowing them to thaw, then adding them to my primary or secondary in 20 days...
Hi Craig great video and guide, I love your vids. I am going to brew this Irish Stout myself in the coming week. I have a quick question..... I enjoy a good oatmeal/porridge stout, I would like to know is it possible to add progress hops to the mix at the start.... would you recommend doing this? could it potentially spoil it? Thanks
watched lots of your videos, love them, IDK if this has been mentioned before but it would be cool if you could put a link at the end of your video linking to the taste test you mentioned. not sure how easy that is to do. thanks for the videos!
Spray Malt is way better than sugar. It imparts a pleasant taste to the beer and is the traditional way of making beer. Sure it costs more, but it is so much better!
Great vid as always craig i might try a coopers stout kit, i always use edme superbrew gold irish stout and its got a wonderful taste the only problem is it doesnt last me long enough lol, oh and my wifes just pointed out my beer belly too lol.
Hi Craig! Long time viewer - first time caller. Ive watched all your brew videos back-to-back (and sincerly - thank you for taking the effort) SO ...I am ready to try with Coopers. I'm glad you did the Irish Stout because that is what I want to brew. My question - as an optimal recipe for flavor, body, and alcohol (based on your previous vids) what do you think of this: Two cans of IS mix, and one pack of LDME...OR ...Two cans of mix and one can of Dark Malt Extract? What would be the very best?
Nice vid Craig!, I'm going to brew a coopers english bitter next with malt and dex, but we are having some cooker dayz down here in oz so i mite hold off a little while, did u know some dude in a red jump suit stole your beer man!!!!
Just wondering... Is that "dry malt extract" something that I should be able to pick up at my brewer's supply store? (without adding an extra can of malt extract per brew kit).
Love your videos.I've put down a couple homebrews today on brewday and had a question. When you are using that sink in your basement does any of those lead paint chips fall in your beer and if so do you leave them in or strain them out.lol
i just got my first equipment from a store in oregon city. the lady there also says to use 2 kits and no sugar. thats what im doing now with some coopers wheat bear. making first batch after work tomorrow once i get a new large spoon and a good thermometer. its 62 all day long in my place ( basement apartment )
Craig ur awesome my man!! I've seen a few of ur vids and will be trying out ur wine making process later today!! Thanks for the vids & info! CRAIG ROCKS!! 1Luv
Hey Craig, if I'm brewing with an extract can - do I need to chill my wort rapidly? This video is totally different to what I've just done (my first brew) and I'm now wondering whether I need to rapidly chill my wort. I had boiled 1 x coopers pale can with 1500g of DME for one hour and then chilled on ice. Is this unnecessary practice when dealing with extracts? Is rapid wort chilling relevant to grain brewing only? Good vid and thanks :)
Hi Craig, How did you work out how much sugar to dry malt? How much dry malt did you add? as I usually Make lager can dry malt been used with that or is it just for bitters and stouts? Thanks Ian
Keep them coming Buddy! Good Stuff. Great Material. "I don't always comment on RUclips Videos, but when I do, It usually means I like what I watched." Stay thirsty my friend.
Ok - would you use Dry Light ME or Canned / Liquid LME? Also - my other question was -- What about using Two Cans of Irish Stout Mix (like you did with the Draught) and then add the LME instead of Dextrose / Brewing Sugar? In other words - Two cans of Stout Mix and LME - (dry or canned) - ..would that be good or would that be over-doing it? Thanks Craig

I have 2 cans of briess LME and 3lbs of DME both LME and DME Are dark how many gallons would you suggest 6 or 7? I also have some hops I was wanting to boil and to dry hop
So I've been watching all of your videos on brewing and I noticed in your taste test video between the lager and stout you said you didn't have the dry malt extract. I see in this video you did add it to this batch of stout. What is the taste difference between the dry malt extract and no dry malt extract?
HI. I got a question for you...what is the interval of bubbling? I mean for example day after I closed fermenter with the stuff and initial temperature floats around 21 degree of Celsius? I am brewing classical Pilsner thanks for reply
Doing this one this coming week...I bought 3lbs of DME, could I use all DME in place of dextrose? Good idea? I do have dextrse if you think that I need it. Thanks!
I just made my first irish stout it was the bone dry irish stout kit since im still new. My beer tastes good but it is very thin with no head. Admitedly I was kinda rushed when dropping yhe temp when i added yeast and it took longer to fall than I expected. But what can i do to get a better thicker head.
The kit packages (beer concentrate can, malt extract can/pack, little bag of hop pellets, corn sugar, Irish moss) I get come with instructions which always say to boil for 30 mins or so. If that is just for the hops then how about just boiling a small amount of water with hops instead, then just throw the hopped water into the wort?
@Pierogihead This isnt needed with Extract kits, the extract already has the malt boiled into the extract thus we needent boil unless a partial or all grain is done
Brewing a muntons Irish Stout 2nite.... Any advice on Batch Priming ( Next week) ? How many cups of sugar does it take 2 prime a 5 US Gallon batch? Hope alls well..Keep the vids coming CHEERS !!!
Sammy Russell Hey Sammy I noticed Craig always used coopers. Ive been using Muntons and always get weird ass off flavor like a bad bitterness. My daughter and I added coffee to a muntons irish stout and it came out horrible. But i see Craigs added malt extract .we didnt add the malt, maybe thats what we needed to add to it. If you get this message Id like to know how your came out and what you did.
Hi I just made coopers irish stout it fermented for only 30 hours I did everything right perfect temperature sanitize everything how can I get the fermentation going again please help thank you

I have just made a Coopers European lager just bottled last week. Tasted good whilst bottling!!
I just had a young's chocolate stout and am thinking of making one cheers

Thanks, Craig. I really enjoy your videos. I hope to return to homebrewing beer this winter and you make it look very easy.
Great video Craig!
Really like the fermenter you use with the screw on lid.
Love the bloopers too. They're worth 5 stars by themselves!

How is it, that I’ve never seen this episode!?! Thanks for the laugh!!!
hello Craig, some good vids you make here, bought my coopers start set today, and my first home-brew is fermenting as I write this :-)
now its a long wait, but worth it (I hope...)
Appreciate your work Craig
Cheers from Italy!!!
i never tire of whatching you vids!!
Looks good - agree on the dextrose, but the only time I use table sugar is when I brew the coopers pilsener - I find it clears quicker.
great vid Craig yet again. I recently brewed a Cooper brewmaster IPA using just sugar. It's good but I will use more malt than sugar next time. I'm going to do a stout soon so can't wait to see how this one tasted to you. Keep up the great vids
ha! you're a drummer. i can tell by the way you tapped on the malt in the bloopers. i do that on kitchen counters and desks all the time lol.

excellent video Craig thanks for sharing!
Hi Craig, great vids, have you ever done one on filling and dispensing from a poly bay.
Thanks for this great video, Craig! I learned something new! Now I just have to go out and get everything I need for brewing. :)
Craig if I wanted to make a stout that had the thicker feel of it like Guinness what would you suggest to use dry malt or liquid malt ?
Great vid as always craig i might try a coopers stout kit, i always use edme superbrew gold irish stout and its got a wonderful taste the only problem is it doesnt last me long enough lol, oh and my wifes just pointed out my beer belly too lol.

i like that fermenter i haven't seen those ones before
old school one
Thanks Craig other great video.
Craig, you say it how it is.
Thank you.
Just wondering... Is that "dry malt extract" something that I should be able to pick up at my brewer's supply store? (without adding an extra can of malt extract per brew kit).

Craig ur awesome my man!! I've seen a few of ur vids and will be trying out ur wine making process later today!! Thanks for the vids & info! CRAIG ROCKS!! 1Luv
hope you remembered to add the wort from the hydrometer test tube back into the fermenter Craig?
hey craig, just wondering if you had any idea what the difference between the normal coopers kits and the thomas coopers selection kits was. cheers
very nice! was that a stout dry mix?
Hey, how come, you don't rehidrate yeast before pinching? Ever had any problems for not doing so?
Hey Craig, if I'm brewing with an extract can - do I need to chill my wort rapidly? This video is totally different to what I've just done (my first brew) and I'm now wondering whether I need to rapidly chill my wort. I had boiled 1 x coopers pale can with 1500g of DME for one hour and then chilled on ice. Is this unnecessary practice when dealing with extracts? Is rapid wort chilling relevant to grain brewing only? Good vid and thanks :)
thanks for not half assing this, very informative!
good vid craig just put my roasted barley in the fridge for 24 doin a coopers mister sinister 7.2 AVB looking forward to that one
Try Stirring it well and make sure you get the bottom of the fermentation vessel , fit the lid again and see if that helps
You got a new subscriber Craig :) you make it really interesting :)
Also - my other question was --
What about using Two Cans of Irish Stout Mix (like you did with the Draught) and then add the LME instead of Dextrose / Brewing Sugar?
In other words - Two cans of Stout Mix and LME - (dry or canned) -
..would that be good or would that be over-doing it?
Thanks Craig
Which do you think would be better and why?
Dry LME or the canned / liquid LME?
Thanks again..
hey craig. any ideas where i can get a few conelius kegs cheap? local beverage dealers here want a fortune for them... :(
What is the purpose of aerating the wort? My guess is to activate the yeast but I don't know the mechanism. I always thought that was strange because oxygen is so damaging once fermentation begins.
@Craig, how do you think this would taste if primed with molasses
im sorry craig but i looked threw the comments didnt see nothing that explained y.i just want to know if it will over flow...y or what ppl do wrong if its not suppose to
thanks craig keep doing what you do....
Just got this one on the go, got an og of 0154, filled to 19 litres. Hope this is ok
"If your water is good enough to drink it's good enough to make beer" I agree 100% but have got crap from some people about that on my videos.
Is there a review video for this beer? I can't find it.
I have 2 cans of briess LME and 3lbs of DME both LME and DME Are dark how many gallons would you suggest 6 or 7? I also have some hops I was wanting to boil and to dry hop
Should i use carbonation drops in this? A stout should not be fizzy right?
So I've been watching all of your videos on brewing and I noticed in your taste test video between the lager and stout you said you didn't have the dry malt extract. I see in this video you did add it to this batch of stout.
What is the taste difference between the dry malt extract and no dry malt extract?
HI. I got a question for you...what is the interval of bubbling? I mean for example day after I closed fermenter with the stuff and initial temperature floats around 21 degree of Celsius? I am brewing classical Pilsner
thanks for reply
Doing this one today with brown sugar, DME, and black treacle...whatsbrewinguk's recipe!!
Hey Craig, mt "Home-brew Guru" ... where did you find THAT awesome fermenting container with the screw lid?
Debbie *Shanty Cellars*
shoot! I just did a coopers stout with 1lb or 500 gram dme and only 300 g of dextrose! what kind of issues am i looking at? thanks
Thanks man, I have one question. It is possible to brew with powder malt extract and corn sugar or I always have to use the syrup malt extract?
Doing this one this coming week...I bought 3lbs of DME, could I use all DME in place of dextrose? Good idea? I do have dextrse if you think that I need it. Thanks!
I just made my first irish stout it was the bone dry irish stout kit since im still new. My beer tastes good but it is very thin with no head. Admitedly I was kinda rushed when dropping yhe temp when i added yeast and it took longer to fall than I expected. But what can i do to get a better thicker head.
Would corn sugar be good for wine? Possibly white wine or red wine?
these are so helpful Craig, Cheers :D
I tried to brew some of this Coopers Irish Stout, and couldn't keep it from foaming oout my air lock, Any ideas on what could have caused this??
how much do these ingredients to make this batch cost
The kit packages (beer concentrate can, malt extract can/pack, little bag of hop pellets, corn sugar, Irish moss) I get come with instructions which always say to boil for 30 mins or so. If that is just for the hops then how about just boiling a small amount of water with hops instead, then just throw the hopped water into the wort?
@Pierogihead This isnt needed with Extract kits, the extract already has the malt boiled into the extract thus we needent boil unless a partial or all grain is done

If I added a cup of strong coffee to this.Would it effect the fermentation???
Sammy Russell Hey Sammy I noticed Craig always used coopers. Ive been using Muntons and always get weird ass off flavor like a bad bitterness. My daughter and I added coffee to a muntons irish stout and it came out horrible. But i see Craigs added malt extract .we didnt add the malt, maybe thats what we needed to add to it. If you get this message Id like to know how your came out and what you did.
