I've just picked up one of these kits from The Range on the way home from work. I can't wait to give it a try! Nice little diversion from the usual radio stuff. Cheers!
Made this last year, It was supposed to be ready for October but it was rank. Left if (forgot about it) and was taking out the Christmas decorations when I seen it at the back of the shed. Tried it and low and behold it was absolutely beautiful. I must have under carbonated it for the Pressure Barrel. Although it was perfect from the barrel I decided to keg it and used the Guinness /nitrogen gas on it. That just added the finishing touches to it. Just made up a new batch today 👍
Great to see you brewing your own beer, Fred. I've been doing it for 20+ years now and love it. I make extract kits and all-grain beers - I'm no snob though, I'll drink 'em all. Really good to see you had success on your first attempt. Beer kits are so much better these days and you can make almost any beer you fancy. Cheers!
First kit ive tried since a teenager and iam very impressed. Iam very fussy about my Guinness and have been known to return pints in the pubs if they are rough but this beer is genuine excellent.
I’m so glad I came across your video. I’m half way through brewing this. I read the instructions wrong though, I assumed it was 10 days fermentation in total (7 days, add hops and then 3 further days) but I now see it’s 10 days after hops. So glad I am not about to ruin the whole thing by bottling a week early. Looks like a really nice end product, I’m looking forward to the first one.
Hi. Ive made a few of these brews now (doing one right now for christmas) and ive found that if you give it a few extra days in barrel it improves the flavour.
Good for you mate.I brew all grain method and its sometimes tricky to brew a good irish stout. Happy that this worked for you.Its all about the hobby and enjoying what you produce. Greetings from the land of tulips...
It's a great hobby. Like radio you can take it as far as you like. Replace the sugar with dried malt, add more hops etc. Quick tip, use brewing sugar not table sugar. There's a huge homebrewing YT community too and FB groups like Homebrewing with Kits UK
That's a lovely looking Guinness Fred. I enjoy this stout and now you got me thinking about trying out this brew kit. I hope I can find it local or be able to order online. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Andy. The only place i could find this kit was The Range in the UK. I looked on Amazon etc. Iam sure there are other kits out there though. Stay Safe bud.
I went through a stage of liking the Guins until I realised that the brown stuff became the black stuff under it's influence lol. Quite happy to try most of your advice Fred - just bought an as new Yaesu 450D ! - but excuse me if I pass on this one :-) .
Very entertaining video. Two quick comments. Clear bottles are a problem for hopped ales. Light (UV) will "skunk" the aromas and flavors. You really need to package hopped beers or lagers in green glass or plastic but not clear or brown. The other thought is that you really need to sanitize any container or tool that touches the wort (the liquid before you pitch (add) yeast. In brewing there is a hot side and a cool side and MYO kits would seem to remove from the brewer any work on the hot side. When the temperature of the wort is significantly below boiling (100 C or 212 F), the wort becomes a heaven for all kinds of mold and bacteria which will spoil or sour the ale, even with the addition of hops. I am surprised that MYO kits do not include sanitizers (unless, of course, they did but you never mentioned that very critical part of brewing your own beer). Your first experience just after you left secondary (high school) suggests that you never sanitized any equipment. Here's a third comment. For the record, Marmite is made from cooked yeast. The liquid malt extract is made from roasted malted barley. Malting is the process of allowing the barley seeds to grow roots about the same length as the grain, after which the maltster dries the grains to halt the germination and then roasts the grains in kilns at about 220 F (or higher) to produce the kinds of flavors and colors we know and love as beer or lager. Malting produces enzymes in the grain that the brewer uses to convert the starches in the grains into fermentable sugars. The liquid malt extract that you mixed with the water was essentially the extracted sugars the enzymes had converted at the MYO brewery.
Thanks Fred Thanks but I'm afraid they are out of stock I guess I'll have to wait Ps it looks like there's nothing else out there to compare to it I must say it looks fantastic can't wait to try one thanks again
We need a new channel now! "Fred's brew in the shed" Where you just brew different beers an wines and at the end of each video, you just get totally spannered.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm in. Here's the thumb! 👍
MMMMM..marmite beer.....might be a new thing fred...lol. top tip when pouring has to be in one go dont tilt back causes the dead yeast to mix decant into another vessel holding up to the light watch for the yeast moving. well done mate.
I tried a bottle of mine 2 weeks after bottling, looked good, nice head but didn't taste very nice. I'm hoping I tried it too soon and the taste will improve over the next few weeks
Hopefully. Ive found the taste tends to stay the same but leaving it longer improves the gas in the beer. I only cocked up one barrel when i did not rinse out all the sterile.
Made vid alot more simply and straight forward the experienced brewers channels. Looked lovely drop. I was thinking of doing a larger kit, but many vids and comments heard is its quite difficult to get right so I'm now thinking stout. You've sealed it for me. What % do you reckon it was?
Can you please share what is name of glass you are using? Looks really cool - is it some kind of tulip, goblet - I do not see anything like this in out coutry. I want to search on the web, maybe it has some special name so I can narrow the query and find it. Great video btw.
Hi there mate I live in Republic of Ireland would you know anywhere I could buy it Ps I found someone on line UK but no option to purchase can you please help cheers
Hi MF. I have tried wine bottles but the beer stayed flat as the screw caps did not seal. Corks might blow out. Cheapest option i found was plain sparkling water as the caps re seal. Tesco were doing it for about 25p a bottle at one stage. Enjoy.

I like gniuuss just u nice video mate
Hi. Did you need to keep it above 20 degrees centigrade while fermenting?
It does help if you can. It takes longer in the winter months with a temp around 17 degs c indoors.
Whats good to sterslize? Would milton do. Thanks for posting this vid am going to give it a try in a month or so
Marmite is a by product from brewing, with added salt
Vaseline is a by product of petrol production, also

@@CB-RADIO-UK that sounds like a much better option. Trip to Tesco it is! Thank you
nice one i love my guiness what was the final strength and did you get any sediment in your bottles?
It settles at around 4.5 to 5%. Yes you get a little sediment so its best to pour in one go or leave about 10 ml in the bottom of the bottle.
