Sure seemed like the guy with the mic knew that there was some shit happening on the field. That's why he kept telling the students to back up until finally he said to get off the field in an exasperated manner. I don't believe the school's denial of the events in the slightest.

Parents are the problem. Racism is a learned behavior. I don’t think I would so manly if I were a football player being racist names. A lot of white have mental issues.
Whoever oversees high school football in this district should suspend the home team's program. If they are unable to guarantee the safety of visiting players, they shouldn't be allowed to play. Or have that team play all of its upcoming home games, on the road at the opponent's field.
@Free Man If the home team's school is unable to protect visiting players and coaches, then suspend their program or have them play ALL their games on the road.
I would be a lot happier with the school officials if they said they were looking at video footage and identifying the fans who streamed onto the field, taking part in the racist behavior. If they said those fans and their players who had taken part in the melee were facing some sort of punishment for their actions.

Thomas Jefferson High School student body should be bared from attending all sports events for the remainder of the season.
I'm a 65 year old black man raised in Iowa now living in rural BAMA. Iowa is as racist as the day is long. Just right outside of Des Moines Norwalk High School played musice where the n-word was used. Iowa is trump county. Govern yourselves accordingly. One trump supporters shot a 15 year old because she said trump sucked

I"m very certain if video & audio evidence of these racists were provided, that it wouldn't have made one bit of difference to the racists that are commenting here. Providing the burden of proof to racists is an exercise in futility.
First lie, then deflect, then admit but blame a few bad kids... INSTEAD OF TEACHING, confronting, addressing and trying to stop this troubling trend.... sports are a reflection of the society...and the youth even more so...
Possible solutions for High School Football or Basketball games plagued by aggressive and / or racist fans / student sections : Play the games in a empty football field / empty basketball gymnasium. If a school gets a reputation as a school with abusive fans then a one year probation is probably needed to see if fans can self police their fellow fans.

That sounds like Iowa all day. Its handed down generation to generation until someone breaks the cycle. I thought it was getting better. Growing up it was common every day speech in many places around the area. It sickens me. It's been a rare occurrence lately or so I thought. An ethical, and morally responsible person of high character would step up and shut it down immediately.
The original local airing was more likely closest to the truth. A few days later they rolled back their statements. So, thanks for the update.

The people that were accused of harassing the players walking off the field are the ones with the phones. They don't want to self incriminate.

Rick, You need to do an updated story on this. This WAS a two way street, yes Council Bluffs started it, my home town Hoovers was throwing words as well, pushing, shoving and punching. Both teams should have some type of punishment for unsportsmanlike conduct.
I figured there was more to the story. The opposing team definitely didn’t get surrounded or exit the field like the coach said. But the origin of the problem is letting the student body on the field in the first place, nothing excuses that.

This is the very reason you don't allow students or fans on the field. It's very dangerous for the players, coaches and officials. The educational district should be ashamed that this was even allowed when the safety of their kids should be paramount. Sad
My buddy's son goes to Hoover. I lived in CB. Hoover is a very diverse school and they call CB "Counciltucky"...this story tracks 100%!!

You can hear the anger in the commentary voice telling the student to get off the field any kid that are racist should be taking away from their parents to be rehabilitate and the parents should be jail and any adult the try to protect racist from punishment should also be jail
A little intense. There should be repercussions but stupid people will always exist. If anything the football team should have their season cancelled or the student body shouldn’t be allowed to go watch the game. Curriculums should also be adjusted to reflect an effort to educate students on racial issues. Jails and prisons are not the answer to most crimes or societal faux pas (not trying to undermine the severity of this).
This problem doesn’t reflect on the students as much as it does the school and parents. Idk what to do about racist parents, definitely don’t think they need to be locked up, but I do think the school needs to educate on diversity and inclusion, basically re-educate students with shitty parents. One way may be threaten to cut funding to schools with incidents like this if they do not show adequate progress in changing these behaviors. Hard to test that sort of progress but I just don’t believe in jailing these people, other than the ones that committed assault.
So... HS after school event but the only recording you can find is the school AV club's bleacher view? Not even an audio of the abusive language? Going to have to do better before I buy this Juicy Smullette story.

What I want to know is why the Jefferson Yellowjackets fans are talking chit? It was their first win of the season and they're now 1-9. They beat a team that was 1-6, now 1-7, and just barely beat them. Grow up folks. There are more important things to get excited about out there.

Alabama has a Hoover also that is very successful.
There's a Hoover high school in many places the same can be said for many places named after presidents and historical figures. Also street and city names when people talk of Milwaukee Most would automatically think of Milwaukee Wisconsin (my home town) but there are at least half a dozen cities towns suburbs and countries across the country named Milwaukee. You'd be surprised how many unrelated places and businesses have been named Acme (as in the old Warner brothers cartoons) including the original owners of the Green Bay (Acme) Packers the Acme packing Co.

I know my school, our community fans and my team wouldn’t take that BS we would of scrapped right then and there. My athletics school mates were always ready to scrap you never knew who would come at us at any type of sports meet. My school was mainly latino so when we played up north out of our region for playoffs we would encounter all white people football teams. Those northern TX all white people football teams were racist AF!!! They would call us a load of racist names because we were latinos but we would never back down we would bring it back at them. I can’t speak for every single person on my school but I never heard my school ever be racist to white people we had like maybe 5 white school mates yeah I know only 5 but we treated them respectfully as they treated us and they were very much welcomed. We only said racist names to the northern TX High School teams in a retaliatory fashion we were not gonna take their racist BS.

Unless there is a cell phone video of a player saying something racist then i can't believe it actually happened. There have been too many stories like this where it turned out to be false. If it can be proven then that whole team needs to forfeit every game for the remainder of the season. And anyone caught on camera making racist remarks needs to be expelled for the remainder of the school year as well

I am a high school football fanatic. I go to lots of games. In a neighbor country you only sit on your team side. At our rival school everyone sits on same side. But U am from a hick town!

The statment from the race baiting, virtue signaling coach didn't match the video footage. If anything his players went twoards the crowd as they were moving back. As the announcer instructed. Thats why cameras are useful, once people get past their emotions of allegations they can review what actually happened, and use discernment to come to a conclusion.

usually school staff or a local volunteer. Not really paid. Most HS sports have an announcer in the usa. Even track meets have announcers.
