You have a good coach: but distance coaches never do pure speed workouts: you don't need much, but getting a few fast 60 m sprints would be a bonus to your workouts done before NOT after the main workout. Go get it.
Good luck on your Saturday race.. was upset to see some of the comments people sent that you mentioned on one of your shorts but just remember where you'll be when you're lining up at the start and think where they'll be... You're awesome Allie and the community loves you
Good luck Allie! As a mom who used to be a runner, still trying to be and now raising a teenage daughter with an ED your videos have been so inspiring. We are cheering you on all the way from Northern Ontario Canada!!
Steeple in the US is deeper than ever, but with Coburn unfortunately out, that likely opens up a spot that wouldn't have been there before. Being a former global championship competitor for teem USA can't be overlooked, and opening faster than previous seasons can often set up late season success. Allie, you got this!
Fantastic video as usual Allie! You seem on the right track 😉. I will be there for the 3000m Olympic trials steeple final, I look forward to seeing you race it.
Allie, your channel inspires me. It's such a joy to watch your processes and your journey. I will be rooting for you this Saturday and into the Olympic trials. You totally RULE!! Good luck!
Of course you have a shot at the Olympics. You are a former NCAA champion and your running looks so good right now!! Cheering for you. Lot’s of fans here.
Meant to thumb’s up on this and accidentally thumb’s up on the the last one. Deep field or not you have a shot based on your determination, talent, and past achievements.
You are amazing Allie. I've followed you journey for years. After all you've overcome,I just think you are incredible. Wishing you a happy & healthy future regardless of the outcome 🎉💓

it does feel weird to have a race so close to another race but thats the fun part of track is getting to race whenever u want, at least for me, have fun in la!!
We believe in you Allie! And we love you whether you make it or not, but I have faith in you 💜💜 I hope LA Track Fest is televised! Love to see Georgie enjoying his new food too 🥰
Great job on your running times! I’m at the point where I can jog for about ten minutes before needing to walk for a few minutes, and then try to jog another ten minutes. My calves still start burning early on which makes the jogging harder, and I get exercise-induced rhinitis so have to try to remember a tissue or two-it makes breathing through my nose when jogging/running harder.
Good luck Saturday, Allie. You are getting really fit, and I think you can shave off some more seconds by focusing more on battling those around you and not having to hit a certain time standard. Your increased fitness will continue to build confidence and help you act more on racing instincts.
I have (had?) they same tan goodrs you’re wearing!! But I recently lost them 😭 gotta get a new pair. An Allie Ostrander x Goodr collab would be so epic. Good luck this weekend!!!
You will definitly make it to the olympics with all this hard work. Question for you, I have recently been adding speed session into my runnig schedule and I was wondering how to you become able to do 600m, 800m and so on of intervals. Right now I have been doing 8-10 times 400m intervals with 2 minutes jog rest or 5km tempo at a hard pace . In all honesty how do you know what pace to go ?
Anyone who has run the trials standard and is planning to go to the trials is an Olympic hopeful. Even those still trying to get the trials standards are Olympic hopefuls. IMO Allie has worked too hard to not proudly declare herself an Olympic hopeful whether she enters the trials as a favorite or a long shot.
I'm the last guy to blow smoke at you re making the Oly team, which is admittedly a long shot, but I disagree your odds are "1%". If you get to the OT finals, and the race develops such that you are in contact with third with 400m to go, I wouldn't bet against you. Coburn's absence definitely opens up everyone else's prospects. Frerichs is training but her race fitness is unknown to most; leaving Gear and Wayment as the favorites. For 3rd, there's about half a dozen with a real shot - Markezich and Jennings being the overall fastest of that group - and I don't see any of them as clearly quicker than you over the last 200 - 400m (certainly not Hallady or Hyde). The key is whether you can stay within striking distance that late in the race. Guess we'll learn more this weekend!
Do you relate threshold pace to a performance standard? Is it around the pace you could hold for an hour? Or does it correlate generally to a race distance, such as projected 15k or half marathon pace? Do you make a distinction between Threshold and Tempo pace? I run 20 minute runs at about the projected pace I could hold for 1 hour, which for me is around 10-12k pace. I call this Tempo pace. Hope you have a great RACE experience this weekend!
For threshold, I usually go by HR and pace. I do a lot of threshold on the uphill treadmill, and for that I shoot for a HR of 170-175. Outside, it depends on how long the rep is, but my threshold pace is anywhere from 5:20-5:45. I'm not sure how long I could run at those paces, but I've just honed it in over time. My general advice would be to do short threshold reps (5-15min) at your 1hr pace and then slow down slightly the longer the duration is (so if you were going 1hr, it would be 25-45sec slower per mile than your 10-12k pace). The overarching goal of threshold is to produce and buffer lactate at the same rate and, therefore, increase your lactate buffering efficiency. Tempo is more of a feeling and much less scientific, I think people consider that a quick pace but not quite threshold, but there isn't a great definition.
@@allie_ostrander Thanks for the detail, Allie. Great info. Is your HRmax around 195? Looks like you are targeting a 20-25 second range around 90% of max? I'm probably better off targeting 85% of max... I'm sure my lactate buffering is not quite developed to the level yours is. 🙂👍
I thought I was going insane when I heard 对不起(duibuqi, means sorry) at the beginning of that song but then it was a song about saying sorry so it makes sense hahahha
With your opening remarks that a chance of you making the Olympics is less than 1%, living in Las Vegas, I believe it to be far greater. However if you need any assistance to qualify, I can refer a friend of a friend to you, ohhh, what's her name.....Tanya Harding! That could be before your time. Allie....you are not in the position of Jim Carey in the movie "Dumb and Dumber", where he was in love with the beautiful girl, and he asked her of what the odds were of going out with her, and she replied, "about 1 in a million", and he says...."So you're telling me there is a chance!" I believe you are stronger than you have ever been, and likely faster at altitude than you have ever been. I realize that many races are tactical, as opposed to all out time trials. I was wondering if there was just some type of normal race at the Olympic trials, do you think 9:25 or 9:20 would make the team? I know marathons, but, steeplechase.....when I was young, I thought that was a race around a church tower! I know you will have a great race using your head and giving everything you have, and that is what racing is about. So I was curious of what time you think would work for qualifying, so you can get yourself some more Team USA gear!
@@allie_ostrander Wow, that is fast, particularly for those of us who didn't grow up running as kids in the altitudes of Kenya and Ethiopia. First, I think you will have a great race, and that by the time of the trials you could run around 9:20, as I just think with greater distance and strength training (hmmm I think running 16 miles uphill counts!), and track work at altitude, you are likely stronger and faster than you have ever been. This race could be highly tactical, and you are showing some very good speed. Plus, you have the strongest mindset and more guts than anybody else on the track, and don't you forget that! Sometimes we have runs that go well beyond what we think we are capable of. On a far more modest scale, I was doing a 10 mile run on a course that was half uphill, and I had never broken 8 minute pace on that. One day I was kind of sick with a cold and almost didn't get out of bed. I did the run, and ran it 3 minutes faster than I ever had. With that, I learned that sometimes we can smash our expectations and break through to new levels.
