Surprised that you didn't name it "Party Bus", it gets rowdy and can go bikepacking. I am not as aggressive or skilled as yourself, but like you, I love a good 120mm hardtail. I don't do jumps or hucks to flats, maybe a few smaller drops. I have yet to bottom out my 120mm fork. I am more into natural, techy terrain and my current steed does great and I am upgrading it as time goes by. Just scored a new RS Revelation 120mm from a friend for $150 and next will be a 165mm Dub crankset to lessen pedal strikes.
Thank you for your calculations 6:54 on "head angle change, the bottom out" issues, that no one talks about. I was in the process of finding a drawing program where I could calculate it, but I do not need it anymore🙂👍
Congratulations Steve. Great to see someone with a true passion put it out there in the world and get it back in style. Really looking forward to seeing it. In the meantime thanks for reigniting my love for this fantastic and beautiful (if masochistic) thing we do.
Out of my price range but I’m stoked that this happened for you. You’ve got me excited about hard tails and can’t wait to get my next bike. Can’t wait to hear more about the process.
Wow this bike checks all the boxes (29+, SS capable, long/low/slack, 31.6mm seatpost, T47 bb, boost, bikepacking mounts….). The design choices and overall goal of the bike seem really well thought out. Titanium seals the deal! 🤘🏻 🚲
Really awesome man, congratulations! 120+29*3 is a lot more cushion than most probably realize, esp if your frame is as it sounds. Sounds like a really awesome bike. Appreciate that you are adding in the rack mount. Such a simple thing that is out of the way if you don't use it, but can really allow more usage on the bike if you do. N+1 will always be a thing but this could be the one bike to rule them all
Thanks, I'm glad to hear that others are stoked on the rear rack mount too. I'm excited for this. I agree, 29x3.0 provided way more suspension than people realize.
Looking forward to the unveiling of these Bikes Steve. I hope this model goes well for Binary and yourself. For sure when you said you had a hand in developing this Hardtail...Straightaway I thought shorter seat post/shorter Chainstay (fuse pro - moveable). Going to have a look on their website now. All the Best for 2022...thanks for your content. Cheers.
These ship globally! Learn more about this bike (including geo chart) and preorder yours here: binarybicycles.com/product/maniak-titanium-mtb-frame/ Thanks for your patience with this one. I wish i had a production version to showcase right now, but unfortunately it's not quite here yet. Soon. In two days I'll show you the prototype we made, realizing that it's different from our production bike.
This is so cool, it looks/sounds amazing! I love what you did with the sizing (wide range + adaptive chain lengths), I can't wait to see the build up/production mode 💪
Looking forward to more of an insight into the design and prototype process - can't wait to see the finished article... Plenty of mud clearance for the UK too!
Had to be a Titanium frame, gotta say I'm tempted to pre-order one however I gotta see the welds on the frame 1st........ The Geo looks bang on tho ❤✌🏻😀
Not in cards right now due to another bike purchase but have to say I think you nailed geo. Be a good bike fir east coast single-track also. Kudos on short chain stays.
Very excited about this. I actually very strongly considered their Molotok. Love the tall stack on the geo chart on that bike, but it's based on a 150mm fork which I don't have or need. I really want yours, but I just can't buy anything without seeing the final product. Dying to see it and hear more. Hopefully be throwing down some cash in the near future for this.
I totally understand. I wish I had a final product to show you, but my prototype first look will drop on Thursday. I'll post pics and info of the final version as soon as I can.
Can't wait to see the final bike even though I will not be able to buy one (expensive titanium) but maybe a steel version will be available later, who knows ? ... Living in France will not help either ... Your channel is great, congrats to you and keep up the good work. 😉
Proud Stache owner. Freaking love it. Please please put a maxis minon 29x3.0 rear on the front! But you're saying it's even more bmx'y, 3 degrees slacker, a modern reach and climbs CO technical trail?! Got to see it, but take my money.
Yes Steve Yes! This bike basically is a dream come true. I was worried when you said chainstay grows with size but even so only 425 on a large. Too bad I'm not gonna be in the market for a hardtail frame for a few years 😢
Lured us in with the sweet deal on the Roost Ti handlebars and then turns around and says "oh I see you need a Ti bike for those bars.... I have one right here!" dirty dirty tricks.
Much congrats on making something like this available. Super interested just not clear on sizing. I’m 5ft 8’ with a 30 inch inseam. Mostly east coast riding living in NYC (Long island, New Jersey, and Massachusetts trails)
This might be my dream hardtail as well! I've been thinking about binary's other bikes but I didn't want to give up on the 29+. I may sell my Honzo ST and Stache and just have this for my hardtail.
This is awesome, a modern Stash! I love it, I would have liked to see the brakes mounted between the stays, I kinda like that tucked in look. True it’s a little more effort to micro adjust but I just prefer it and feel it’s better than a brake hanging over the seat stay. Your Geo is pretty spot on in my opinion and my custom Seven Sola and my steel Esker Hayduke and Japhy have similar Geo’s.
The capability of tire sizes interested me the most(as well as being titanium). To be honest, a threaded BB is a close second lol. It's just a chapter of its own and it really shouldn't, but anyhow... Looking forward to see more.
I just started working with a custom titanium builder and I basically asked for everything you did. I described it as a modern Stache. I can’t believe you literally said those words in your video. The only limitation was the CS length. He could offer 430 and it sounds like you could get 425. I ordered this am right after I watched your video. I am so psyched. One quick question. On a large which crank length would you recommend? I love to stand and mash and love the extra leverage from a 175. Thanks so much. This project is awesome.
You have build the Hardtail I have long been waiting for. A Downcountry Hardtail with a 120mm fork, progressive geo, and clearance for 29+ tires. Can't wait to see the finished product. The Maniak set up with some i35 rims and 29x2.8 Maxxis Rekon tires would be amazing. Now could you also design a similar full-sus bike with a simple 100mm rear travel single pivot design? I've always liked the single pivot Santa Cruz Superlight but a version with modern geo and Plus tires would be my ideal bike. I love Hardtails but I'm getting to old to ride a bike without at least a bit of squish in the back.
We paid a lot of attention to tubing on this design and i can confidently say it rides smooth and supple. Add the cush of 29x3.0s and it's pretty awesome how comfortable this bike rides. That said, it'll never match the comfort of a full squish. For the most interesting full squish on the planet right now (in my opinion) check out the starling little Brady eye.
@@hardtailparty Thanks for the tip. I did check out the Beady Eye and I thought it was great. However, I'm not a single speed rider but I like the general design. Given that the Maniak is flexible titanium, a single pivot flex stay like the Specialized Epic Evo might also work well. I test rode the Epic Evo but it just wasn't progressive enough and only had clearance for 29x2.4 tires. A Plus Downcounty (hardtail or full-sus) rider can dream! I've been riding a 29+ Trek Full Stache for 4 years now and I rode a 100mm travel 29+ Hardtail for 3 years before that. On both bikes, I bought oversized and then pushed the saddle forward and installed a 35mm stem to make them more progressive. However, on the Full Stache, I don't really feel that I need 130/130mm travel and I would be fine with less travel and weight. I really think that a short-travel light-weight progressive-geo 29+ (2.6--2.8 tires on i30-35 rims) Downcounty bike (full-sus or hardtail) is the ideal bike for many riders. Thank you for making a 29+ Downcountry Hardtail a reality!
Long time viewer, first time commenter. Just wanted to say I love your stuff and very excited that this is happening, and looking forward to the reveal on Thursday. As a San Diego native who’s been wanting to visit Arizona, how cool would it be if u conducted a hosted bike tour for those who bought your bike? It would be a great opportunity for a meet and greet, but also for those of us wanting to ride with the creator himself, on the bike he built for the community!
Very very neat. I suspect for myself I’d be best with a “less aggressive blue trails” version of this - but the basics here: Ti, T47 BB, sliding dropouts, long dropper post allowance, high stack, 29+ with short chainstay and at around $2k sounds perfect. I’m super curious to see how they managed 29+ with 415mm chainstay. (fuse diamondstay?)
Fun project! I can't help but notice that all of Binaries bikes are $1700 usd, but the Maniac is $2100 usd, and there's no HTP discount. That's too bad, with inflation on everything I was hoping to see the $1700 price on the Maniac.
Unfortunately, all the binary prices will be going up to match the $2099 of the maniak. Costs have gone up a crazy amount lately with all bikes, and Binary is no different. The website sadly doesn't reflect these changes yet, but it will soon.
Love to see that this thing is out as you'd shared of its forthcoming nature when we did the consult. My first proper MTB was a Karakoram too -- I loved that thing. Then it got stolen. Way to stick with the vision. I saw the second vid. It really pulls more together once built. At first I thought it had too many curves but it evens out. Anways, well done lad.
Geometry/Specs looks killer and glad to see another 29+ option coming out. STA sounds spot on for gears, but that’s awful steep for SS use (at least imo).
@@hardtailparty yes that it correct. However I have noticed the saddle getting in the way on certain techy climbing moves (on the two builds I’ve owned with steeper than 75 STA at sag). Granted I get one could lower the dropper in anticipation of that scenario, just isn’t something I have to think of on my other SS builds.
@Nathan Whitmire Gotcha. Yeah I'm used to lowering my dropper for big climbs. For where i live, a steep sta is a must for geared climbs. I guess no bike can be everything in every situation. Glad you're excited for it.
Yo Steve you madman lol!! Dude you and me think a lot a like here. Love that you are starting to like rear rack for bike packing. Also 120-130mm fork has always been the sweet spot for a hardtail. Also I know your also big on routing cables external and won't be running them on the bottom of the downtube. I can't wait for your full review, mainly because I've been looking to get a nice titanium hardtail and this sounds like it's going to check all the boxes I have as well. Also shirt chainstays all the way and able to run plus size tires😲👍🤙 you understand what a lot of us want. I'll definitely be keeping my eye on this bike. Oh I see your all bundled up 😅 it's not that warm down here in Tucson either.
@@hardtailparty knowing what you like to ride and do, it sounds like this bike will be just as amazing down here on the trails around Tucson. I do plan on running a Rolhoff gearhub but with no frame split I won't be able to use a belt drive.
@@buckroger6456 my initial dram wanted a frame split, but after breaking a belt on another bike, I decided it wasn't something I wanted. This thing will be PERFECT for Tucson, from lemon to 59 year to sweetwater and the AZT.
@@hardtailparty I'm sure it will be. I'm still riding a 2012 giant reign 0. I've been looking to switch over to a 29er hardtail that can be my do it all trail bike. My other bike is a specialized Sirius hybrid bike that I use for around town and some lemon power climbs. I'm hoping to be ready to but my dream hardtail sometime next year and want to do your bike consultation so I can pick your brain and some gear to get and making sure I get the right size and so on.
Sounds great! Love the 29x3 capability, and the versatility for adventure biking. Also a huge fan of Titanium, but will there be a steel version? I appreciate your comments on the lesser fork travel, as someone that sometimes rides very steep gnarly big mtns here in Colorado.
There's a sizing chart here: binarybicycles.com/product/maniak-titanium-mtb-frame/ Scroll down a bit for the geo chart. I'm thinking a large should fit you well, especially if you have steeper terrain.
And there’s the rub. Im built like you (just 2.5-3 inches taller … and several pounds heavier…😳) with Short legs with a looong torso. I used to buy all my bikes based on stand-over and proceeded to use setback seat posts and longer stems to make up the front cockpit space difference. What a putz I was. Fast forward and I run a 45mm stem on my 5010 size large which has reach of 475 stack of 618 (+ 30mm of spacers) HTA of 65.7 a STA of 77.2 and a wheelbase of 1224 vs. 480, 640, 65, 76.5 and 1240 respectively. Where I ride most? That’s a fair question. I live in New Jersey and we have, well… a mixed bag. The North is for the most part rocky punchy tech with some flow. Think of it as New England light. Central (where I live) is like mid west tight twisty punchy little climbs with some rocks but mostly roots adding a little interest. South is mostly sandy flow trails where you can never ever stop pedaling. Keep in mind, it’s a short drive to get to eastern PA or New York State Trails so those are also options. The real purpose of this bike is to fill the slot my Ti Domahidy currently holds as the, I’m going somewhere new and riding blind bike. I love that bike but the front end is just a bit too steep if the place turns out to have chunky descents. I mean I could take the trail or enduro bikes but if it ends up to be pedally (if that’s a word) I’d be miserable. It’s high time I retire the OG SIR9 Rigid SS anyway and SingleUp the Domahidy again. Really glad this is coming out now… was leanings strongly on getting the Ti MiddleChild but this has more options to tinker with. 😊
I'm considering pre ordering and I wanted to ask if it would work at a 140 mullet. Sense you've rode it I want to know what you think. Awesome that you got that opportunity as well!
Yes it will. Bb is a little lower as a mullet, which means it corners extremely well. Running it as a mullet will trade some of the trail pedalability for more of a shreddy, fast Enduro hardtail for steep downs and slashing corners.
Looks awesome congrats! Will it be possible to offer (or have CNC’d) alternate dropouts to raise the BB height for those that may want to run smaller tires/wheels? Curious how the BB height compares with a 27.5x2.3 vs. 29x3.0. My dream build would include 2 or 3 wheelsets depending what’s on the menu for the day!
That's a great idea. Since it has sliding dropouts, anyone can machine a custom dropout for it. I dig that idea, I'll chat with binary about what they have available. Personally, I've kept the dropouts the same and just swapped stuff around.
Your bike sounds interesting even more so with the mounts. I would like to see more agressive HT offering rear rack mounts. Like why can't the aforemetioned Honzo ST offer it? One niggle with the specs is on their site just gives me one CS number, which I have to assume is the tuct number(at least for models not the xl)? Is it 20mm difference between tuct forward and slammed back I take it?
Great job Steve….Stoked that this project came together! Reach is longer, but effective top tube shorter than my Medium frame Stache….curious what frame size HP is riding?
Any ideas on frame weights? Ball parking is ok, just curious. Congratulations on the project. In know a few people with Binary frames in southern Arizona, they are very happy with them.
Yes. Thursday's video will weigh the prototype frame, which should be very close to actual production weight. It's on par with other ti hardtail frames with sliding dropouts.
Congrats on the frame man, it looks like a real ripper. exactly what we need, aggressive ht's rule. One little question (just wondering) what kind of inseam did you base the L and XL frame sizes on? being 6'0" (183cm) with a spindle to top of saddle height of 930mm and always going for a reach of around 470/480 (depending on stem length) 390mm seems to be a lot shorter than most brands seem to wanna push it.
Great questions. What length dropper are you currently running? We wanted to make sure there was room for a 200-210mm dropper on the larger sizes.. We'll probably end up lengthening the seat tubes a tad on the larger sizes, they do seem quite short.
@@hardtailparty currently not running a dropper on my hardtail since it is a 27,2 seat tube inner diameter and externally cable routing, there sadly are no 27,2 droppers that are long enough. but with a 445mm seattube i run a 400mm post 4mm over the minimum insertion at ideal climbing height with a 73,5°seat tube 😅 and 175mm cranks. On a hardtail like this i would run 170mm cranks and according to some simple calculations that would mean that i would have 330 mm of exposed seat post with the 390mm st. (Not taking in account the 3° steeper angle which would reduce that by a couple of mm). Where about 250/260mm is necessary to run a 210 dropper depending on the brand.
Very cool! How does this frame compare to a V7 Chameleon AL? Also curious on sizing. I'm 5' 10" and while my two FS bikes are Large, my Chameleon is a Medium. Comparing the sizing charts, the Maniak is almost closer to a Small Chameleon than a Medium.
I don't feel like I can honestly compare them since I have a vested interest in this one. I'll continue my reviews, but I won't be comparing other bikes to this due to the conflict of interest, and the fact that most people are skeptical of a reviewer's integrity anyway.
I'd go with sometging like a chromag or btr if you're going to be hucking stair gaps. I designed this frame to be supple on the trail. I'm using a tuning profile that lends itself more to trail comfort and a compliant ride than stiff max strength for huckong. Not to mention this is optimized for a 120-130mm fork. So the tubes have more flex than a dedicated. That said, I've had mine on double back diamond trails and jumps, but it isn't overbuilt like a hucking bike.
Wonderful news! Wondering if you still offer fee based consulting services for someone interested in expanding the MTB quiver. If so, how would I get in touch with you.
Hey Steve! Congrats on this wonderful news! I'm considering this frame as I have been following your channel for quite some time and you and I have similar riding style and body size. What size would you be riding if you're buying this frame from one of the available sizes? I see the standover height of 785mm which might be too tall for me.
I'm on a size med. I wouldn't put too much stock in stand over numbers personally. Having a high stack with a 29er wheel and a suspension fork means stand over can only be so low. If you need more stabdoverx you can always run it as a 27.5 bike.
Took my Maniak out for it's first real ride Sunday... Mission accomplished, Steve. Smiles for miles!
Awesome! It's a special bike.

It'd be fun, but i don't have a permit to conduct tours on forest service land. The closest thing i can do is lead group rides at the Sedona MTB fest.
@@hardtailparty ahhh I see. In that case, I’ll look forward to the Sedona event 👍🏼
We'll see if it actually fits. Chainstays are 415-435mm. The goal is to get it to fit at 415mm, but I'm not sure it's going to be possible. We'll see.
Fun project!
I can't help but notice that all of Binaries bikes are $1700 usd, but the Maniac is $2100 usd, and there's no HTP discount.
That's too bad, with inflation on everything I was hoping to see the $1700 price on the Maniac.
Same
Unfortunately, all the binary prices will be going up to match the $2099 of the maniak. Costs have gone up a crazy amount lately with all bikes, and Binary is no different. The website sadly doesn't reflect these changes yet, but it will soon.
I wondered if that was the case.
I'm going to have to start selling my lettuce for more in the spring!
Congrats bro hope it turns out to exactly what you meant it to be!
Thanks Carlos. I have high expectationsit do far the prototype is awesome. I imagine the final version will be even better
Very cool. Love it.
Geometry/Specs looks killer and glad to see another 29+ option coming out. STA sounds spot on for gears, but that’s awful steep for SS use (at least imo).
But aren't you standing most of the time when SS?
@@hardtailparty yes that it correct. However I have noticed the saddle getting in the way on certain techy climbing moves (on the two builds I’ve owned with steeper than 75 STA at sag). Granted I get one could lower the dropper in anticipation of that scenario, just isn’t something I have to think of on my other SS builds.
@Nathan Whitmire Gotcha. Yeah I'm used to lowering my dropper for big climbs. For where i live, a steep sta is a must for geared climbs. I guess no bike can be everything in every situation. Glad you're excited for it.
@@hardtailparty True, could be worth adopting that habit. 😁
Can you visit Binary, and take along the go pro? It would be nice to get to know the company, the people, and their capabilities.
I'd like to do that in the future.
Thanks, it's my dream hardtail. I'm surprised there's nothing like it out there yet. Time to shake things up and bring it to market.
We don't have any plans to make it available in steel. Binary only makes titanium bikes.
Any info on advised sizes? Can't find a sizing chart. I'm 5'10 with 33 inch inseam, I'm usually right in between Medium and Large.
There's a sizing chart here: binarybicycles.com/product/maniak-titanium-mtb-frame/
Scroll down a bit for the geo chart. I'm thinking a large should fit you well, especially if you have steeper terrain.
Ordered. Of course I’m in between sizes…. But I’m wayyyyy closer to the large in the numbers that mean anything to me… so that’s what I’m gett’n.🤙
Awesome. How tall are you, what's your inseam, and where do you ride most?
@@JuggernautMTB Check out the geo chart now. We just added a ML size for those in between.
@@hardtailparty Awesome! The M\L is perfect! I used the contact link to ask them to swap the order to M\L.
Let's see a video of you riding the prototype!
It's coming
@@hardtailparty can't wait! When can we expect it??
Is it 20mm difference between tuct forward and slammed back I take it?
the cs number is the shortest setting. All CS measurements can be slid back an additional 20mm
@@hardtailparty sweet!
Great job Steve….Stoked that this project came together! Reach is longer, but effective top tube shorter than my Medium frame Stache….curious what frame size HP is riding?
I'm on a medium.
@ hardtail party are you going to have some available to demo at the next Sedona Mountain Bike Festival?
I might have my personal version, but i won't have a fleet, sorry.
So cool!
Sounds like a Trek Stache with Modern Geo. Slacker head steeper seat angle.
Exactly. And longer reach, more room for a dropper, more stand over, threaded bb, and a higher stack. It's pretty awesome.
How much are these frames and what's the weight?
Are the seatpost bottle mounts external? I.e. they should not foul the dropper post.
Yes. They're studs.
A med Maniak is longer in reach than a med V7 chameleon, but the seat tube is shorter. It's also slacker. See the geo charts in the link above.
Hardtail version of Grim Donut!
Hopefully more balanced than the grim donut, but definitely cutting edge.
Will be interesting how you review other bikes after this “ultimate” bike? Will it become a benchmark that will be hard to dethrone?
I don't feel like I can honestly compare them since I have a vested interest in this one. I'll continue my reviews, but I won't be comparing other bikes to this due to the conflict of interest, and the fact that most people are skeptical of a reviewer's integrity anyway.
2099 is a great deal for a titanium mtb frame. Nice work!
Thanks Leo, i agree.
Dream come true 👏🤘🤙
Agreed, thanks Johnny.
Am i able to send stair gaps with this thing or is the frame durability more trail oriented because of weight
Nice!
Will it be utilizing the Sram Universal derailleur hanger?
No, because this has sliding dropouts. The sliding dropouts are the derailleur hangers.
Wonderful news! Wondering if you still offer fee based consulting services for someone interested in expanding the MTB quiver. If so, how would I get in touch with you.
Yes, that's my main business. Sign up for the bike consultation service here: patreon.com/hardtailparty
is there a good 120mm fork that fit 2.9x3.0?
A rockshox Pike.

Why do I watch this channel? I can't afford anymore bike right now. Jk who really needs a 401k.
At the current rate if inflation, a bike seems like a better investment than a 401k. :)
Very cool..
Kind of looks like the timberjack

It’s a bald move to design a bike in association with a RUclipsr. I’ll go follow and like everything Binary Cycles right now.
I agree, i really appreciate them taking a chance on me and partnering for this project.
@@hardtailparty it also speaks a tons of the respect you command in the community. Congrats. Can’t wait to see it.

Ok mate don't review it but at least do a full first loom with actual finalised frame.
Loved the t47 & 29+ choices.
I will, but I don't have the finalized frame in hand. On Thursday you'll get to see the protoype.
