BIODATA of the Meditation Guide:
Ven. Dr. Karma Tashi Choedron (Savinder Kaur Gill) is a śrāmaṇerikā (Tib: getsulma), ordained by Venerable Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche in 2009. She holds a Ph.D. in Environment and Resource Studies from Mahidol University, Thailand and an M.A. in Buddhist Studies from the International Buddhist College (IBC), Thailand. Dr. Karma is an Assistant Professor in Intersectional Development and Social Justice at the University of Nottingham Malaysia, Deputy Director of Education at the Vajrayana Buddhist Council of Malaysia, and Religious Advisor to the Malaysian Buddhist Consultative Council. She received the Outstanding Woman in Buddhism Award in 2010 and the Lord Dearing Award for excellence in teaching in 2022. Dr. Karma is a Fellow of Advance HE and a Vice-President of the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC).
Dr. Karma, with more than two decades of meditative experience, first trained in anapanasati meditation in the tradition of Ajahn Buddhadasa Bhikkhu in Suan Mokkh, Thailand. She subsequently received direct training on shamatha meditation from Ven. Thich Nhat Hanh, Pa Auk Sayadaw, and Sayalay Dipankara. She also received shamatha and vipasyana instructions from Khensur Rinposhe Geshe Lama Lhundrup, Dzogchen teachings from Lama Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche and Tsoknyi Rinpoche, and the full Nyingma Phowa and Drikung Phowa transmissions from Choeje Ayang Rinpoche. Her meditation philosophy emphasizes mindfulness, compassion, and the integration of meditation into daily life (balance) to foster inner peace and promote good mental health for all who wish to practice.
