I note that professor has touched the Hindu nationalist forces in India but missed Maldivian Islamization.

I am from Fiji and never been to India. It is unfortunate to hear such comments from senior government ministers of maldives. I was hurt after hearing the vulgar words towards indians and its hard to forgive them. In our region, there has been chinese influence in smaller island nations for few years now. Nothing comes for free, we have to give something to get something. The downside has been increased competition from chinese businesses in the local market. Debt trap, the chinese govt gives huge loans for infrastructure development knowing the smaller nations wont be able to pay. There have been destruction of natural resources with developments without proper assesment.. There has been a rise in drugs, prostitution etc. They developing military bases here and there. Maldives is now going into that trap.
Now nothing will change Indian people's attitude to Maldives. These days Indian people don't really forget. As long as China keeps a foot in Maldives, India will consider an enemy's friend as an enemy. Muizzu has gone too far this time.

Dear sir, Here is my take on this. Muizzu took advantage of religious sentiments for his political gains. He is in coalition govt right now and will look to consolidate his position for future. He knows as he secures his position, he’ll repair relations with India. As far as India is concerned , the population of Maldives is half million. The cost and labour to build a naval base will be high and will serve no purpose because of Lakshadweep. I am saying that due to the proximity of Lakshadweep and Maldives. Second reason is the impact of climate change of Maldives. The island is in serious danger due to climate change and will have to rely on India for help. So to summarise, this is all just politics of money and opportunity which has very little life.
