I'm only 45 seconds into the video at this point, but stellar editing! Love all the shots and how each transition occurs in time with the music! I just started a channel of my own (separate from this one) for climbing content, and your videos are a huge inspiration for how I can help improve my own content. Thank you for all you do =)
Beautiful vid man! Congrats, and for the drone part, you are excused because it just added so much beauty to it! It was a pitty you were in Tomar and we didnt meet. We also have beautiful crags around here. We'll leave for the next time. Take care
I’ve been to that area a few times to surf and always loved how easy it is to get from beach to inland to city and back. Food is good, portuguese people have been friendly and respectfulI - now I want to go back and boulder too. I for one am always balancing my ( selfish ) drive to surf and climb with spending quality family time - this looks like one of those places where you can make it possible
Great video and I am glad you enjoyed your stay and climbing around Sintra and Cascais. I must say though that you missed out on the best sport climbing areas of Lisbon (and probably Portugal) which are Fenda, Mango and Atlântida, all around 50kms south of Lisbon. Maybe next time!
I'm in sintra and it certainly pretty. Brought my kit with me. Going have to walk from the town. The roads are useless for cars. Everywhere one way,too many cars but place is amazing
Great, NOW you put this out after our trip last summer! :) We did find some random climbing in Sintra on the hike back down from Castelo dos Mouros and the Palace of Pena. It was a few slabby walls that even had a topo map board setup with routes marked/named and graded! Saw some game people braving the heat scuffling up some sport routes. Glad you had a great time there man!
Man! I just climbed at almost the same spots (lead in cascais and sintra). Got goose bumps seeing the same awesome places I visited two weeks ago. A hint for the next trip: a local told me that you can climb a 100m rock at praia da Ursa next to cabo da roca (3 pitches). This rock is more or less surrounded by water and can only be climbed under good conditions...
Looks like a rad trip! My wife and I are headed to Europe later this year and Portugal was definitely on our list of places we were thinking about hitting up. Looks like there's some solid climbs there!
Which topo card material can you recommend for Portugal? Are there any free websites for rough orientation? thCrag does not seem to be very well equipped with routes / climbing areas...
Such a good víd!!! What's the Bolt type to use at this kind of crags where You have... You Know... Marine environmental ? ( salt, and corrosive tendence).
The bolting was safe and maintained where I was climbing on the coast. But it's true that the salt water cliffs need to be checked/replaced more often!
I'm heading to Portugal next month and renting a van to go climbing... thanks for the videos! The gentleman that speaks at 4:28, is he found at the lodge? I would like to find some partners to climb with when there.
Hi! His name is Pierre Mateus and his company is called Outdoor Adventures Portugal. You can find him on his company website, Instagram, or through The Lodge 👍
Hi Andrew, great video as per usual. Just wondering how your training has translated to board climbing - what moonboard grade you can redpoint or whether you're better at slopey climbs etc?
Great question! I'm actually going to start doing more board training in the coming months so I'm not sure at the moment. I've definitely made big strides, but I'll have to do a board check-in soon.
You don't miss what you never had ha. But yes, I think auto tracking would be an amazing feature to have. Something like the Mavic 2 would be fantastic to own but the price gap is quite large for my needs on RUclips. I did however pick up a new main camera for future projects and that is where I think the price gap is warranted... The image quality will start to look next level 👌
I used a guidebook that The Lodge had (the place I was staying), but the book didn't have the bouldering area went to... There should be an online PDF for the Meca area. I had help from locals but it should be online.
@@AndrewMacFarlane cheers! Me and my girlfriend are always looking for places for climbing trips. We both also surf so portugal seems like an awesome destination for a spring/fall vacation. Also I find your videos really inspiring. I am a mostly v6 climber with a couple of 7 and 8 under my belt and it helps a lot so see a non pro climber working hard to push himself :)
Didn't expect to see such awesome climbing in Portugal! That'll have to go on the very, very long list of places I'd like to climb one day.
help me doing that, i live here but im new to climbing
Those are some beautiful shots! Well filmed and edited, Andrew!

I'll have to come back!

What is the name of the crag that Pierre mentioned at 3:30?
Nice video. I think you will find the westmost part of Europe is in Ireland ?

Hey Andrew did you ever announce the winners of the Afrikat chalkbags?
what music is at the intro?

Great Vid Andrew. Which drone did you get yourself?
Went with the DJI Mavic Mini 👌🏻 Perfect small drone for traveling.
@@AndrewMacFarlane Looks like a good piece of kit. Do you find the lack of auto tracking frustrating?

11:53 the variation has been downgraded to v2
Well that cu duro part made me laugh. Cu duro means "hard ass".
Do you need an ffa liscence to post drone footage to RUclips? I thought u did
Damn this guy mews
go ericeira
Cu duro 🤣 best name...
Was that second climb called “Hard Ass?”
First
The most western point of europe is not cabo da roca!
Are you climbing in skinny jeans? My dude
Boulder Denim jeans! Extra stretch designed for climbers 💪🏻
