I agree. I wonder if it inspired Billy Bragg and Wilco for the melody of their song California Stars from their Mermaid Avenue album in 1998. The songs are very similar!
Reminds me of standing on my balcony with my best mate who is no longer here, listening to this on a walkman one earphone each, looking over Veronicas strip in Tenerife getting homesick...been working there for 2 months and we were flying home the next day* 1992....
1992, doing homework and listening to a college radio station late at night, one song after another playing in the background, And by 2:04 I had to stop and pay attention...and I sat motionless until it finished. Damn. What a song.
This song was the most emotional for me off of "Going Blank Again." for a period of time. It was 2014 and that was about the time of missing the 90's hit me like a ton of bricks for the first time ever. Beautiful tracks like this has a way of breaking an emotional dam that's been clogged for years you had no idea was there. Anyway I love Ride with all my heart, Hope to see them live one day, those dudes really made incredible music.
I bought this CD from Cash Converters in George Street in Aberdeen in February 2007 for £2 The intro just makes me think about how your life and time just slips away no matter what you do
I've been listening to music for 40 years, all different sorts of music, and this track has to be in my top 3 of all time....without a shadow of a doubt!
I think Ride were the Television of the nineties. Television must have been a huge influence on them. And they made their own thing out of that. I think Ride is a better band than My Bloody Valentine. Whereas "Loveless" often counts as THE shoegaze album, I find Rides debut and this one is better. Maybe it's because it's more rock and less ambient than MBV. The ringing guitars, the brilliant melodies, beautiful voices. This song is one of the best album closers ever. Oh, and rest in piece Tom Verlaine
Never been so far away I don't think I want to stay in this room anymore If I crawl across the floor Then I'd be closer to that door, it's too far Never been so far away Just lost the last thought in my head, what happens now? Some fantasy you've been Pick up the pieces in my mind, I'm going I'm going home... Fantastic.
I wish everyone could feel this incredible music, the way we both do! Best song from the album, though by now, us early insiders must think it's cliche.
Definitely The end to me has always been a feeling of letting go, Relieved and knowing its the right thing but with regret and a desperate sadness realising you won't ever know if it could have been different.
This album and it's predecessor 1991's "NOWHERE" are masterpieces. What I find strange is that the very first 2 EPs were printed as one album in between these two, and called "SMILE" = the quality is terrible in comparison.
ha man I follow your bjm facebook.....but yea this was me at 15 dreaming about the girl I was crushing on in front of the classroom but was 2 bashful 2 talk 2
ha....hey man I follow your bjm facebook.....but yea this song was me at 15 home crushing on the girl in front of the class who I never had the courage to talk 2 lol
Amy Joy I can't agree more. I never thought when I heard them in the early 90s that they would be with me for life. I live in the US, so I literally had to read NME to find out about them. Gotta see them live this year!
Amy Joy First time hearing this, and it's wonderful! At first I thought 'hmm interesting instrumental band' and then it kicks into full gear. Thank you for posting!
Just herd this again for the first time in years…… n oh wow it took me to a place n time n my youth…happy and emotional, life was simple just getting stoned n had the best friends ever and was sooo happy
Brings me into emotional turmoil & makes me cry & so does Today because the lyrics make you think of the past & brings back memories of a brilliant youth & the lows as well but by the time the end of those two tracks your in a daydream & just completely drifted away with the lyrics and that beautiful guitar and drum sounds😊 Love you RIDE ❤
Has to be the best ride song by a country mile, amazing from start to finish. just bought the 20th anniversary edition with the live dvd, well worth a purchase !!!
Get this song loud especially when your about to take off to another planet. When intro winds up goodness me you are in a *,***** ROCKET 🚀 HEADING FOR JUPITER. AMAZING SONG THANK YOU RIDE. GENIUS
I got depressed while being at school hated my town I would sit for hours listening to this track while studying late it is magical poetry glad I can listen to it online and Rob I know it's you who has my ride records which I will replace onemail day had to leave uni in hurry
Ride have always been perceived as the underdogs of the big 4 of Shoegaze (Slowdive, MBV, Ride and Lush). But they have their moments that out do all of them. This is one of them
bought it on my 18th birthday. In cloudy grey boring factory town of Marinha Grande. Some months later I would be riding to Lisbon, life has just begun.
Un morceau touché par la grâce , dont on ne peut (si on y est sensible) se lasser.Du pur bonheur , 26 ans après les frissons et les larmes viennent encore.
Is this song about the bands origins in Oxford, and the effects certain substances had on them? The words to the song suggest so. It’s a fantastic tune, one of Rides best.
This is good work!!!Excellent.Reminds me of "Sun,Flowers,Colors and A Girl"-with colors,-Colorful everything colorful,so colorful so full of colors corolitical :D
Mbv used to be one of my fav bands when i was younger, but this song compleltly blows them out of the water in my opinion. Fuckin grovyest thing that ever came out of the 90's
Seen them way back then when it was wall to wall Adidas trainer at the Barrowland Glasgow can't remember the year I think brit pop was about to arrive..
The 90s were so good for music. From raving in a field with house music to also listening to stuff as good as this. We really were spoilt for choice.
Orange at the Astoria London Westend and The Venue New Cross! Believe!
And the people were so decent Miss the 80/90s :(
This is one of the most *gorgeous* songs I've ever heard.
I agree. I wonder if it inspired Billy Bragg and Wilco for the melody of their song California Stars from their Mermaid Avenue album in 1998. The songs are very similar!
@@lyonslaforet Billy Bragg listening to shoegaze?
Ride are absolute shit
Brings me back to 1992 again....this song is perfection
I might go one further
Quite possibly one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful singles ever recorded.
i agree!
In the early 90s in a plane from LA to Honolulu I could see the lights from the islands below while this song was playing in my cassette walk-man.
Reminds me of standing on my balcony with my best mate who is no longer here, listening to this on a walkman one earphone each, looking over Veronicas strip in Tenerife getting homesick...been working there for 2 months and we were flying home the next day* 1992....
I feel nostalgic for you
Homesick for where?
sharing headphones and hoping the batteries don't wear out!
1992, doing homework and listening to a college radio station late at night, one song after another playing in the background, And by 2:04 I had to stop and pay attention...and I sat motionless until it finished. Damn. What a song.
damn, that happened to me just now.
@@DonutSwordsman same here
I never wanna get used to how beautiful this song is
Beautifully put
Never too late to discover bands like this in 2022. My love for all 90s music has brought me here💛
Seven minutes of pure stress relief, beautiful.

SPOT ON !!!
I feel that
Sometimes i try to use words to describe how this song gets me feeling, and they all fall short.
I bought this CD from Cash Converters in George Street in Aberdeen in February 2007 for £2

I've been listening to music for 40 years, all different sorts of music, and this track has to be in my top 3 of all time....without a shadow of a doubt!
Whats others two?
Me too, Trap... me too
same with me

When this album came out the music press were really unfair about it. I remember thinking, 'Fuck you Melody Maker I am buying this anyway!"
Never been so far away
I don't think I want to stay in this room anymore
If I crawl across the floor
Then I'd be closer to that door, it's too far
Never been so far away
Just lost the last thought in my head, what happens now?
Some fantasy you've been
Pick up the pieces in my mind, I'm going
I'm going home...
Fantastic.
OX4 is the best song...
Memories of good times, this is pure happiness.
I feel bad for those that listen to this song and feel nothing. They have something wrong with them. This song is pure bliss.
Danae :(
It's a shame for her.
I saw them in Cardiff last night. They played this and it got to me. It's a stunning track and a perfect way to close Going Blank Again.
I wish everyone could feel this incredible music, the way we both do! Best song from the album, though by now, us early insiders must think it's cliche.
Eh i think it boring af much prefer Swervedriver and MBV.
what you have not, you can not give!
The epitome of a timeless classic!
Leaves me feeling like I'm 'in a different place' every time!
Sounds like a perfect romance that has a feeling of sadness to it because the perfection feels too good to be true, y’know? A pipe dream.
defo mate!
Definitely
The end to me has always been a feeling of letting go,
Relieved and knowing its the right thing but with regret and a desperate sadness realising you won't ever know if it could have been different.
Absolutely looooove this song…top 20 all time for me
Possibly my favourite song of all time.......had the album over 25 years....... fantastic piece of art! 🤤🙀🤓😎😻😍
This album and it's predecessor 1991's "NOWHERE" are masterpieces. What I find strange is that the very first 2 EPs were printed as one album in between these two, and called "SMILE" = the quality is terrible in comparison.
Still the best band on the planet. Once you bond with their music, there is no breaking it. No band has had the same impact on me.
couldnt have said it better mate

Ride's music penetrates my mind, heart and soul. I feel so blessed every time I listen to them. So much love and respect for them.
Amy Joy I can't agree more. I never thought when I heard them in the early 90s that they would be with me for life. I live in the US, so I literally had to read NME to find out about them. Gotta see them live this year!
It does the same to me, Amy!

ditto - and i had a Laura Riley - so fit! a proper heartbreaker! and she did...
Just unbelievably beautiful, it always gives me goose bumps.
I can't believe anyone would dislike a song like this
wait, that can't be, right? : )
Brings me into emotional turmoil & makes me cry & so does Today because the lyrics make you think of the past & brings back memories of a brilliant youth & the lows as well but by the time the end of those two tracks your in a daydream & just completely drifted away with the lyrics and that beautiful guitar and drum sounds😊

My favorite song from a magnificent, compelling album.
After all these years I still ❤️ this.
This is one tremendous song from a tremendous album from a tremendous band thank you
I remember blissfully listening to this back in the hinterlands while everyone else was up to their necks in grunge.
Went to see them play at Oxford town hall last week! ....SUPERB!! 🤯👍
God I love this
I remember buying Going Blank Again in 1994 from a record shop and being blown away by it, massively underrated album
Ride, esa banda que descubrí allá por los 90…hasta pude verlos en Valencia en vivo. Qué gran vinilo Going Blank Again. Gran banda
Dunno what you said, but I'm with ya!
Wonderful track from a wonderful album. Good times, good memories.
One of the best songs ever written, period.
Probably my 'go to' ride tune when I want cheering up. Just bloody awesome!

OX4 my second home ,where I spent my 20s and 30s this song fits perfectly such a great band
play this at my funeral....
Horse Charlie, i've told my family that too.
Ha! Nice....😜
Horse Charlie T. I too have requested this at my funeral. Beautiful.
@@verynicehorse that can be arranged young Charles. Nahh jokes haha
Same. If they don’t I’m not going.

Over the years, whenever I've upgraded a soundsystem, speakers or headphones, the first album I test it with, is GBA. Pure class.
Nice👍🏻
What a song eh? Sounds as good as it did 25yrs ago!!
One of my favourite Ride songs. Cheers. 20 years old makes me feel old.

As someone who speaks English and French, don't translate this. It's better in French.
93 First time ever hearing this/ getting stoned on hash can you imagine

Just hang in there until 2:00 plus and it's a whole different song!! Love it!
That's true but the first part is awesome, too.
Is this song about the bands origins in Oxford, and the effects certain substances had on them? The words to the song suggest so. It’s a fantastic tune, one of Rides best.
Such a good guitar album. Man.

Con esos riff, encuentras la musica indie y dream pop de estos ultimos años. BANDA! LEYENDA!
We've all been there, but with this song it's blissful! Happy daze.
Glasgow Barrowlands at the end of next month. Been waiting for this since I was 13!
Tomorrow in Columbus, Ohio. Happy to say
