- In this video, we'll discuss an engineer's specifications for pouring concrete, including the use of rebar, wire mesh, and fiber mesh in different areas. Whether you're pouring a concrete floor or constructing a garage, understanding these requirements will ensure a strong and durable final product. Find out how to properly prepare and reinforce your concrete in this informative video!
#EverythingAboutConcrete #MikeDayConcrete #engineerspecrebar
We're pouring in 4 different areas for this job today. The engineer spec'd different reinforcement for each area.
The house floor has 6 mil poly and fiber mesh in the concrete. The garage floor has 2" styrofoam, 6 mil poly, and a mat of rebar in the floor. The tiny garage area has 2" styrofoam, 6 mil poly, and wire mesh in the floor. All different types of reinforcement on the same pour.
Do you think the engineer's specifications make sense on this house and garage floor pours?
What would you have done differently, if anything?
The garage floor was also 6 inches thick VS 4 inches thick for the house and tiny garage.
Comment with your thoughts.

3200 sq ft is a fair size of a footprint , nice to see an engineer spec whats needed zone by zone instead of a one size fits all approach.

Mike, I've learned so much from your videos, I've been watching you for years.
I'm no where near building or concrete professionally (Software and Technology is my area), but I've used info learned from your videos to do projects around the home.
Great info.
Thank you for taking the time to create your content and add the great voice-over info.
You guys make this look easy. Every concrete job ive ever worked was back breaking labor with a ton of raking, carrying buckets, using a wheelbarrow...
Great content and explanations, much thanks Mr. Day! I learn something most every time I watch your clips, whether its about how the pour must be managed due to weather to coordination with local code enforcement or site access issues for equipment, power, water, et al. Thanks again!
Subscribed!👍 now I’m ready to pour my garage/shop. Thanks for all your knowledge!

Mike, my hats off to you and your crew, I am not a expert, but been around many pours, I worked in excavation for years. I never saw a leaf blower on any jobs before. I thought I needed a leaf blower, and have never used it for leaves, just blowing off equipment.
Good comments as the pour is being done. Shear panic for me if I had to do that big of job.
Thanks 👍

Subscribed. Love watching and learning about concrete from Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Subscribed!!! Nice work Mike
subscribed, really love the videos
My guess on the various slab specs is that the engineer created "Zones" and set the specs with computer design software based on the anticipated loads in each area. You should get used to this approach as it optimizes materials and labour. There is no logical reason that every area has to be the same spec. You may not notice big savings on an individual house, but on a large building or a whole subdivision, the savings from this approach can quickly add up.

Nice job. Do you use a special mix for the pumper? We use to have to ensure that the stones in the mix were smaller in size to the regular mix. Now of course I am going back close to 4 years ago. Keep charging!

Subscribed and love concrete.
Great info
I see so many of these big houses now ever since Covid. I’m from East Tennessee area. I rarely pour for people from Tenessee anymore. Anymore, it’s people who have moved here from other states. Anyways guess what I’m saying is I see these big houses a lot now. Great work Mike!
You do understand that most of those that go off to college don't return home and live in the college state...now that's almost 70% of all highschool grads in the Nation. That's a lot of people not from the state, building there if they r new home construction and not buying.
@@SourBogBubble That does make sense. But I do see a lot of older folks too ready to retire moving also.
@@brentpearson4877 and Tennessee would be a happy medium nit too cold not too hot. Well used to be, climates weird these days 😆
@@SourBogBubble lol no doubt ! If they tell you it’s gonna rain this weekend then usually that turns into a sunny weekend haha
