For people who think John wasn't abusive, they don't know abuse when they see it. To get to that point where you hate yourself like Dean does, that starts young, that starts when your parents are still your whole world. John didn't know if they ate enough everyday, if they slept every night, if they still had time to be kids, and he didn't care. If he did care, he should have left them with Bobby. If he wanted to kill himself trying to gank yellow eyes, he shouldn't have dragged his boys with him.
I guess I really do need to watch the series. I thought watching RUclips clips were enough, but it shows that John left them alone all the time? How did they go to school and stuff?

I mean he's pissed, hurt and he sees that Dean doesn't understand him, so maybe it was a right thing to make this dialog so tense

It sucks that Dean has gone through so much crap. god i'm a sam girl through and through but this video felt like it crushed my soul. something about it is so simple and subtle and straightforward, it perfectly punctuates dean's pain in such a heartbreaking way it makes your throat close up and your eyes water. i think this is my favorite dean-centric fmv i've ever seen and it's only like 2 minutes long. something about it is just so powerful but in such a quiet character study way, idk. kudos for this, friend.

I really felt this way as well about Dean and his self worth and how his childhood affected it. This is so emotional! 😢💖 When watching the episodes for the first time, I really felt Dean's pain and conflict (I still do). Dean's constant loyalty, faith and craving for affection... but also how understanding he was and how old he had to be even at such young ages... Dean is by far my fave character! He is flawed but at his core, he strongly cherishes family and those he cares about - often even at his own expense! I do feel sorry for John as well since a hunter's lifestyle ain't easy - in flashbacks, young John never would have been a father like that but due to horrific events, he was trying to do the best he could. I'm not excusing all John's behaviour but the twisted context still matters. Dean had to be a father/mother/brother/friend all in one ever since his mum died - tough times, indeed!
yeah, I think John & Dean relationship was one of the reason why I got attached to the show. It's complicated and there is a lot of guilt and misunderstanding and mistakes, yet there is also respect and admiration and love, I think it was very interesting storyline

john abused sam and dean, raising them like soldiers instead of sons, not caring what happened to them as long as they were still alive at the end of the day. sam was smart enough to get away from it all for a while when he went off to college. dean on the other hand was pretty much brainwashed, didnt even realize how bad john was to him, and when he did, it was too late. these boys deserved a better life and a better dad. and dean deserves to know that he is so much more than what his dad tried to shape him up to be. hes a brother, a lover, a fighter, a friend, a hunter, but he’ll never be his dad, and good for it

Well I'd like to say something. I don't know what your opinion is about John but personally, I can't really judge him for everything he did. I mean, it' s really complicated.. He saw his beloved wife dying in front of his eyes in a way he couldn't even explain, he had to raise two kids all by himself and at first, he didn't have anyone he could count on. I'm not trying to excuse him in any way. Hell, he was a truly bad father but I don't believe it was all his fault. I think he had a problem showing his emotions. He had his own way to show affection which boys didn't always understand. But he loved his sons, for that I'm sure and they loved him back. He may not be the best parental example and he surely put too much responsibilities on Dean's shoulders and made him grow up fast, but like sam said in first season, it could have been worst if their dad had chosen more alcohol and less hunting. He treated them like soldiers and was strict but only because he was afraid of losing them too. He couldn't bear that thought so he did everything he could to teach his sons how to protect themselves cause he wouldn't be always there to protect them. I kinda understand John cause I used to be like Sam. I fought a lot with my dad, I still do. He may be strict sometimes and he may not always understand me, but I don't, not for a second, doubt that he loves me. Soo this came bigger than I imagined😂 Anyway sorry to annoy you and beautiful video I loved it☺ (sorry for my english)

Well I'd like to say something. I don't know what your opinion is about John but personally, I can't really judge him for everything he did. I mean, it' s really complicated.. He saw his beloved wife dying in front of his eyes in a way he couldn't even explain, he had to raise two kids all by himself and at first, he didn't have anyone he could count on. I'm not trying to excuse him in any way. Hell, he was a truly bad father but I don't believe it was all his fault. I think he had a problem showing his emotions. He had his own way to show affection which boys didn't always understand. But he loved his sons, for that I'm sure and they loved him back. He may not be the best parental example and he surely put too much responsibilities on Dean's shoulders and made him grow up fast, but like sam said in first season, it could have been worst if their dad had chosen more alcohol and less hunting. He treated them like soldiers and was strict but only because he was afraid of losing them too. He couldn't bear that thought so he did everything he could to teach his sons how to protect themselves cause he wouldn't be always there to protect them. I kinda understand John cause I used to be like Sam. I fought a lot with my dad, I still do. He may be strict sometimes and he may not always understand me, but I don't, not for a second, doubt that he loves me. Soo this came bigger than I imagined😂 Anyway sorry to annoy you and beautiful video I loved it☺

@@flowerbookmark yess I think with some other character it could've been different situation, but when Dean's been saying from the first seasons how he's thinking he's just a hunter and nothing more is out there for me and in the end his self-loathing thought basically have become true? man I'm so not okay, it's too painful for me
