Keep in mind that it's Japan, BMW modification parts are expensive or underdeveloped there, so it's reasonable to work what what they've got since the 1JZ has been tuned to death there. Exact reason why that E92 in the D1GP had a 2JZ in it.
@freethinker41 I gotta say I love my 328i to bits. Bought it with a turbo installed and it raises hell. Some of the best german engineering right there.
Firstly, remember "TWIN TURBO" you'd always want that more than a crappy 318is engine I'd say.. the diff didn't break, the LSD did so now the differential is normal which is one tire spinning more than the other and sometimes makes it harder to drift depending on the driver, tires, etc. but Keiichi seemed to drift it good without LSD, LSD is 2 tires spinning at once and it's usually welded, so when it says LSD broke meaning the weld broke and NOT the diff broken, 1jz is mainly good for swaps :)
this is an IDEAL swap fer a LHD E36 considering where the 1JZ exhaust manifold & LHD steering shaft are located... as well as the foward Sump on both s50/2 & 1&2JZ motors... i've heard it fits right into the E36 front crossmember... so engine mounts & driveshaft are the only major hardware parts you need... and forget putting a turbo on a stock BMW motor.. you'd be hard pressed to even make 200hp/L without blowing up i plan to use my 2JZ instead of a 1JZ inside my 4DR ///M3
@EddyKicksAss actually it is a 318is. really not the car to be going around with 400HP then, the brakes and differential are not suited to that kind of power, and the extra weight of the bigger engine is going to ruin its balance. and whats wrong with the M42's anyway?
@freethinker41 Yeah, the b28 is great for boosting. They probably thought that swapping in an engine they already are familiar with is easier than starting on a new platform. Asians sure love swapping parts.
pointess swap, a built and turboed M50 oor M52 will be far cheaper and easier to do, and make more power. same with the S2K engine swap, a built up NA M42 can also make 200HP, again cheaper and easier.
it started out life as a 318is, the most common and least desirable E36 there is. I think they did the car a favor. Im very sure the LSD didnt break as they quoted since it said stock diff there were no LSD's equipped in the 318is since they used the very small 130mm ring gear diff instead of the 188mm that the inline 6 E36's and 318Ti used. Pretty good for open diff really. Although want to see a E36 drift check out my channel
I love it..... Although an all aluminum ls2 twincharged with a t56, and suspension and brake mods......Omg thats a demon, And it would weigh considerably less than this....
not only that, they are really hard to repair, when a japanese car comes to the workshop i usually go to work on some other car and let my friend try to fix it. he always swears a lot...
@Boss351Mustang I guess: Japaneses like curious specs, different set up, unique whole results. Also, how you said, if you are in Japan and have available a LHD BMW like that ready to being tuned for drift or similar, why not to take advantage of the pieces you already have around you? 1JZ-GTE is common as well as aftermarket parts there, just a bit of skills and time, and it is ready to run. There are lots of tuned M3s, but not different creatures like this one.
BMW a RARE car in drifting ? they are so wrong they even forgot to notice that for a fat coupé with stock diff & suspension, it drifts pretty well... better than most of japanese cars, dare I say
@RoccoGold Shes not a transexual actually. There is video here on youtube of him driving that car with her in the passengers seat and we get several clear up skirt shots of her.
@Boss351Mustang To do a V8 E92 M3 swap in a E36 is totaly pointless plus it would cost a butt load of cash! A stock S50B32 is probably safe bett, but it's expencive and in the end won't come anywhere near 400hp without forced induction. Since superchargers for S50 start at 5k$ you can be sure that for that amount of money you could buy used 1JZ put a GT35R single turbo and remap it to do almost 500hp. Plus base E36 is cheap as hell here, unlike E36 M3s which start at 3x the cost of a base model
what? e36 was made in the 90's..have you guys ever seen where the rear subframe mounts on a regular driven e36 or e46 m3? the torque literally pulls the metal away......so much for strong metal. a little bit of welding and its fine though. imo e36 is the most reliable bmw@eestilehm
might seem like an odd question but do all BMW E36 have the big flat pedal as the accelerater? jus i dont like them that much and was wonderin if they all have that style of pedal. if you dont know what im talkin about, pause the video at 0:18 and look at the big accelertaer pedal. do some come with the sames style of pedal throughout?
@EddyKicksAss good luck finding parts? then your not looking hard enough, or at all. I'll give you that its easier to make 10000HP out of a 2JZ than an M5X engine, but for just 400hp he could have thrown in some rods, some ARP hardware and a turbo kit and got the same power without custom engine mounts, exhaust, wiring, shifter, cooling system, driveshaft, etc of the 2jz swap.
I have a 1995 328M coupe with 241km on it sits outside every day I live in a rural/beach town and there is not a single spot of rust ANYWHERE on my bimmer. If you knew about japanese cars you would know that 2000 honda preludes with 140km on them are rusting. Honda / Mitsubishi/Toyota are rust buckets, I have worked on many and strip them down to the bare shell. Sir you are mistaken.
Not a fan of the 1jz/2jz swaps per say, but it sure as hell beats a m44!!!! And yes a LSx is an excellent choice. Lighter than a s52/b32 m3 powerplant with MUCH more getup. Even though its BMW purist blasphemy! lol
Why a 1jz? I dont understand, the normal engine in the m3 can do that and more. Maybe it was do to the availability of parts for a BMW in japan hmm well in that case it might seem like a good choice in the right circumstance.
bmw rules in everything materials,craftsmanship and engineering. interesting swap but not as good as a modified original engine 4 sure. nothing like a bmw engine... good swap if you can't afford bmw engine tuning but 318is+turboed original=380-450 ps...
has that 328 engine still has no turbo or charger? these e36 2.8s are rapid my standerd 1 out drags everything of same hp and more r32 golf all the way standing start to 150mph civic type r / st focus mad aint it sure good showing them owners up wouldnt mind 400bhp though in 1997 4door 328i lol
yeah okay ... take a look at the other choice you have if you want to go drifting... (RWD, coupe, manual) . . . it's the S13, and they're rust buckets too. ALL OF THEM. so no Japanese /= no rust, every car made in the 90s rusts, it's because back then they used thinner steel, which is why they are so light... but also prone to rust.
the least desirable was the 316, then there was the 318 and then 318is. And you are wrong about the LSD there was the "Little diff" with LSD as an option!
I wouldnt say its rare in drifting, but shes right by saying that i suppose because shes in japan but here in ireland we drift e36s, e30s anything thats rwd and has a welded diff really haha
The focus of the video is on the 1JZ, so I would assume you'd be talking about that. Funny how you removed your comment about an LS1 E36, I guess you don't have one after all. Besides, a stock N/A LS1 makes about 360 HP to the crank, capable of maybe 390 RWHP modified, there's no way it's faster than this boosted car.
Yes an all aluminum ls2 w t56 weighs 497 filled w fluids...believe me i know I weighed mine several times... And well lets be real try to walk into the parts store and ask for parts for a 1jz in america>.....Ummmm theres no such thing as a 1jz.....(autozone fail lol).....But yeah I like the 2jz better personally but from a bang 4 the buck perspective lsx all day....
@macthemec Lol call BS if you want i don't need to prove my job to someone on youtube. Before i went to BMW i briefly worked at honda.. I have friends who are body guys and they'll agree with me. I've never seen as much rust in a car as i've seen in volkswagens. Which is German. BMW isn't as bad but they still have more then japanese cars for sure.
@canadianjob dude first, the LSD in the car is the stock one (probably from an M3) read the spec sheet at 0:21 it says bmw stock differential, and bmw stock suspension. Thus it is pretty fucking amazing that the stock suspension would feel anything near normal when put under the strain of 400 horses considering even the super hot M3 from that year only made 320 and the only place that got that was Europe. If you are going to say stupid racist things at least try and use some semblance of english
@Misterrnico ask any bodyman what cars start rusting out the soonest, they will all tell you mazda and Nissan, both Japanese BTW. I'm going to call BS on you being a BMW tech.
@bobbitt187 BMW, a much superior machine than any japanese car... Thats all i got to say... true, i dont know anything bout swaping a japanese engine in a german car... its just not meant to happen like that... Yeah, i kinda hate their cars cuz they make so much out of themselves, when they r really crappy... idk, to each their own, i stick to euro, quality, style and expensive... u guys stick to ricers if u like, cheap, low quality and terrible designs...
"A rare car in drifting, a BMW"
Poland: *Are you sure about that?*
in japan yes
Keep in mind that it's Japan, BMW modification parts are expensive or underdeveloped there, so it's reasonable to work what what they've got since the 1JZ has been tuned to death there. Exact reason why that E92 in the D1GP had a 2JZ in it.
Rare car in drifting she says, come to Poland, that'll change her mind
this video maybe 17 years old
e36 still a rare car in Japan, it's other way around in Europe
Or Czech Republic, also BMW only 😂😂
And indonesia too
E36 is literally an S13 in Europe, the most common drift car, or skidder you will find.
it's 10 times cheaper than silvias
Impact really liked to swap jdm motors in these old Bimmers, I believe there are some exhaust clips of it on their channel.
Watching dori dori drifting my project chassis of choice (e36) My life is fulfilled.
i like Kazama's relaxed steering technique when he is drifting
pretty wierd that a bmw is rare in japan while its pretty common over here in europe :P
@freethinker41 I gotta say I love my 328i to bits. Bought it with a turbo installed and it raises hell. Some of the best german engineering right there.
Yeah the 1Jz swap is actually becoming popular all over for E36's, Even I am contemplating selling my S52 and swapping in a 1JZ.
316i -> 99, 102 or 105ps
318i -> 113 or 115ps (is/ti = 140)
320i -> 150ps
323i -> 170ps (u forgot it ;) )
325i -> 192ps
328i -> 193ps
"and ofcourse... the drift king skills"
yeah!
Yeah, that's really good for stock suspension.
@In4cus They would of put a 1j in bec of cost. its cheap, easy 2 find and they have a huge amount of aftermarket parts avalible.
ahh ok there wasn't an option in the US i didn't know if there was one over seas. Thanks for the clarification
i have a civic si and an e36. they are both winners in my opinion.
Firstly, remember "TWIN TURBO" you'd always want that more than a crappy 318is engine I'd say.. the diff didn't break, the LSD did so now the differential is normal which is one tire spinning more than the other and sometimes makes it harder to drift depending on the driver, tires, etc. but Keiichi seemed to drift it good without LSD, LSD is 2 tires spinning at once and it's usually welded, so when it says LSD broke meaning the weld broke and NOT the diff broken, 1jz is mainly good for swaps :)

considering where the 1JZ exhaust manifold & LHD steering shaft are located... as well as the foward Sump on both s50/2 & 1&2JZ motors... i've heard it fits right into the E36 front crossmember...
so engine mounts & driveshaft are the only major hardware parts you need...
and forget putting a turbo on a stock BMW motor..
you'd be hard pressed to even make 200hp/L without blowing up
i plan to use my 2JZ instead of a 1JZ inside my 4DR ///M3
@freethinker41 the 1jz has more potential than 400hp, its only tuned for 400.
@EddyKicksAss
actually it is a 318is. really not the car to be going around with 400HP then, the brakes and differential are not suited to that kind of power, and the extra weight of the bigger engine is going to ruin its balance.

that was meant to say 1000HP, not 10,000
I love the way he says, "And ofcourse, the drifts kings skills"
มี E36 ปี93 วาง 1jz gte A/T อยากได้แบบนี้จัง M/T โม 400 ม้าออกทุกเม็ด
@Boss351Mustang I guess:

Try an m3, not only does it sound better, but if you really feel that you need to whack a turbo in it, it'll go better than a 1jz.

@99webon how is e36 a boat it lighter then any factory 2jz car 2800lbs and because is factory motor is also cast iron you wont lose balance

This is a 316 :D Made to m3 .. just look at the little shorter trunk.. Its maybe 2 inch shorter.
The M3 chassis is not different to a 316 model, they just have reinforcement plates on the rear subframe.
I have a 1995 328M coupe with 241km on it sits outside every day I live in a rural/beach town and there is not a single spot of rust ANYWHERE on my bimmer. enough seen im swaping my e36 with a 1jz
DO IT!
@rs200000000000 lots of tuning and internal upgrades made that possible... its only common sense
I flew to the moon by flapping my arms really hard
@tsxws "Noisy, little room, rough ride" It's okay to be OLD
That steering wheel doe.
Why a 1jz? I dont understand, the normal engine in the m3 can do that and more. Maybe it was do to the availability of parts for a BMW in japan hmm well in that case it might seem like a good choice in the right circumstance.

nice one...btw what injector did it use??is 440cc injector from 2jz can support to 400HP?
@HELPMEIDUNNOHOWTOUSE Yes, they're all big, flat, and hinged on the floorboard.
has that 328 engine still has no turbo or charger? these e36 2.8s are rapid my standerd 1 out drags everything of same hp and more r32 golf all the way standing start to 150mph civic type r / st focus mad aint it sure good showing them owners up wouldnt mind 400bhp though in 1997 4door 328i lol
@In4cus Yes it does.
@kregzdeM3 it would be cheaper to build and get aftermarket parts for a toyota engine rather then BMW.
yeah okay ... take a look at the other choice you have if you want to go drifting... (RWD, coupe, manual) . . . it's the S13, and they're rust buckets too. ^ this is the reason i do my own maintenance/modifications and don't take my car to bwm
id say that my e36 has rust in the middle of the fucking door? tell me how thats possible
@kregzdeM3 you put 10 K$ to s50b30 and you get a numerous horses :)
17 k$ spent = 400 WTF ???
@730gna In N/A form yes, but then it won't get the half of this 1JZ power
people are putting ls1's in supra's gonna yell at us americans too? plus it's a 318i, the littles e36 you could get
true
Yes an all aluminum ls2 w t56 weighs 497 filled w fluids...believe me i know I weighed mine several times...
And well lets be real try to walk into the parts store and ask for parts for a 1jz in america>.....Ummmm theres no such thing as a 1jz.....(autozone fail lol).....But yeah I like the 2jz better personally but from a bang 4 the buck perspective lsx all day....
I need that conversion kit
When is the next video and when is it next modifaction
@macthemec Lol call BS if you want i don't need to prove my job to someone on youtube. Before i went to BMW i briefly worked at honda.. I have friends who are body guys and they'll agree with me. wait....was that a fartcan on a bimmer?
Yeah,if you're talking about OPEL...
@99webon why do you say that?
aww man they took the man hood out of the m3 =/ they could of made 400hp easy with the regular engine..supercharger etc...active autowerks duee
@RoccoGold 318i - 318ti - 318is m44b19 got 147ps
@rs200000000000 true...
is it wow cham in ist initin gold
haha Dat 1jz is just screaming
German cars rust 10000x more then japanese cars...I'm a bmw technician btw.
I see the same thing on volkswagens and bmws.
what the hell is your point? and E36's weigh about 80kg more than an E30, whoop de fucking do.
so much you think you know so little you say.....LOL!
and japan cars rust and break 100000000000000000000000000000000000x more than[not then] german cars.....i'm a toyota technician btw too.....
1JZ is a Toyota engine, and it's probably faster than what you drive.
got to sleep rustyricerbucket!
3.ol toyota supra turbo power!!!!!!!
the only thing big is M POWER !!!
I own this car :D
@cbamode
The BMW E36 is never, NEVER a granddad car.
i can tell u all based on my mom advice...all car rust.....so its better to walk than driving :p
Looks like a Honda four cylinder engine to me, not a six cylinder Toyota engine.
Different car :) The white one has a 1JZ
whats wrong with m52 ffs.
1JZ swaped and not even welded diff 😅 Japan is weird
@bobbitt187 BMW, a much superior machine than any japanese car... sorry not RoccoGold rik890...miss click.
they should have used a bmw I6 engine not that crap
insulting
its an engine of JAY-Z lol
