  • We had a great trip float trip fishing the upper Sol Duc river for native steelhead. Parker Browning our guide made it possible for Matt and I to land four steelhead and have many bobber downs. The largest around 18 pounds. I was also able to get some great video of the rapids.

I know this is an old post but its great to see fishing on the Duc. I used to spend my summers up there with my grandparents and fathers side of the family. This says upper part of the river and I used to fish the lower part from Frank Leyendecker's place north on both sides on foot. Now the laws have changed so much and foot access has been all but eliminated Ive caught many steelies and a few kings on that river system.

Do you know if salmon are caught on the upper duc? It seems so much prettier than the lower stretch of the river

I can’t tell you that. You can check with the guide Parker Browning in Forks.

Is it really necessary to put the name of the river on RUclips? Already way too pressure here.

matt nelson wow, i wish everyone would quit with the no river names thing. They are crowded regardless, and they are public for everyone. Stupid fisherman are so whiney!!!

Matt I appreciate your opinion. I understand how you as a local feel about fishing pressure because I feel the same way where I live. I also realize the locals who depend on dollars generated by fishermen trekking over there to fish may feel differently. I originally made these videos for me and my family and it didn't matter. Using those premises rivers, lakes and beaches will continue to be named.

@@nwbobberbites4348 it's obviously not a secret place but by being a little less specific I think it helps spread people out a little. There was once a time when people had to figure these places out on their own. No instant answer from the the internet.

You must be about the only one that couldn't figure out which river it is?

Nice video. So there are no issues with using a baitcasting setup for float fishing with a bobber stopper? I would much prefer this over a centerpin.

Hi Jim, I have been fishing with a baitcasting reel since getting back from my military tour in 1970. I have watched guys centerpin fishing and can see benefits for it, and actually have a video on my RUclips channel with a friend of mine catching a steelhead with his. I have thought of trying it, but have so many rod and reels now don't see any real benefit at my age. Good luck figuring it out.

Only downside is casting very light rigs

Congratulations, you've uploaded half of a fishing video.. showing clear video or pictures of the fish is undoubtedly the most important half of any fishing video, and you have failed..
